It wouldn’t turn on no matter what I did. So I returned it and got another one. It also didn’t work well and I returned it and got a refund.

We are so sorry to hear that the Sony DVD player with HD Upconversion did not meet your expectations, however this unit can only play certain formats like: DVD Video, CD (CD-DA), Video CD, Super VCD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-R Dual Layer and many more, but it cannot play Blu-ray discs, we recommend you to go with the following models: BDP-S1700, BDP-BX370, BDP-S3700, BDP-S3500 and BDP-BX650. Performs well. Hangs up on turnoff

Or perhaps it's in some limbo state because it won't turn On next time. I have to completely unplug it from power and plug it in again before it will function properly.

I installed my DVD player and the remote did not work at all. I contacted tech support. After a 35 minute conversation of ridiculous solutions, I was told I must A) prove I had purchased the item and B) mail the entire unit back and wait for a new one. Its just the remote! So I guess I go without a DVD player even longer while it travels the country and goes into the abyss of customer service....

Bought this, without buying the protection plan because I thought SONY was a good and reliable brand. I bought the simplest blu-ray player for my elderly father who just wanted a simple dvd player for watching old movies. We played it maybe 10 times and after exactly 3 weeks, it stopped working. It had passed the return date for Best Buy, so I had to pay to ship it back to SONY. Hopefully, Sony will send me a new one, since this one stopped working within 30 days. The return postage was more than the protection plan. It just seemed crazy to have to buy a protection plan for almost everything you buy, but I guess you just can't assume that the product you buy will actually work.

I don't even know if it's the right item that he can have. This item did not state that it was Blue Ray or not.
