its a "basic" player; a few more indicators as to function on the unit would be nice.

I wish I could review the buying/return process instead of the dvd player...the player was super basic and provided a terrible picture. That said, I'm still VERY happy w my overall experience. It took me longer to walk from my car tthan to complete the return process.

No cable, fast Internet. Have a 24" computer monitor and a 40" Sony TV both fed by the computer in my office. I can now watch DVDs on the TV and work on the computer.

    Disappointing purchase

I bought this DVD player because it said it was an all-area player and it most definitely isn't. I had to buy another player, so I can play all of my DVDs. I guess I can't trust Best Buy.

    Good A First

Purchased two of these about 2 years ago; both have since died. Both experienced the same issues about 6-months ago: not reading discs, taking a very long time to load, skipping. Initially thought it was the DVD, but were new or excellent condition. As of today, both read 'cannot play this disc' for every DVD inserted. I guess the life expectancy of a below $50.00 DVD is 2-years. Disappointed in SONY.

    I’m Through with Sony!

I used to think Sony was a great brand for electronic products. But my recent Sony purchases have been crap, including a DSC-H5 digital camera that can only take about 10 pictures on a fresh set of batteries before they go dead, and this DVD player, of which I’ve had two, both of which failed miserably. My first one lasted a couple years before it started to freeze up every few minutes while playing a DVD. When it did so, it was totally unresponsive to the remote and to the front-panel buttons, so the only way to recover from the problem was to physically unplug it and then plug it back in, by which time it was ready to freeze up again in a few minutes. It was maddening. But when I replaced it, I decided to go with this slightly upgraded version of the same model, a decision that was clearly not my best. The new one lasted only two weeks before it started to have a similar problem, and worse. Not only did it occasionally freeze up; also, about half the time it wouldn’t start playing a TV episode from the beginning but rather would start from the second or third chapter stop. Nothing that I tried to fix it worked, and it happened with DVDs that I KNOW were good; the discs weren’t the problem. So I returned it to the store, since it was well within the 30-day return window. To say that I’m disappointed with Sony in general, and this DVD player in particular, is a huge understatement. Many other companies out there make these kinds of products, and now and in the future they, and not Sony, will get my business. Steer clear of this piece of junk unless you want to buy into a world of trouble.

    Not compatible with Onkyo Receiver

    Posted .

The first unit that I purchase ended up being DOA. I returned it for a replacement and, after spending a half hour on the phone with Sony tech support I discovered that this device would not connect to my Onkyo receiver via HDMI. Back to Best Buy I went. This time I exchanged the Sony for a similarly priced unit from Samsung, (BD-J5700) which worked perfectly. One other issue with the Sony is that the HDMI cable that the documentation says is included is, in fact, not included. When I pointed out this discrepancy to a bored-looking customer service person at Best Buy, I received a shoulder shrug and "I can't help you with that" from the clerk. People with attitudes like that should not be assigned to the customer service desk.

    Poor product Terrible Sony Service

Tried to return but 15 days had passed. After much time on phone with Sony they agreed it was defective. Had to return to them & wait for a replacement. Recently received replacement & having different problems with it. Tried live chat but no help. Called the 800 # from my original case & was told they couldn't answer my call due to technical problem. Have now been on hold with the number from chat for 30 minutes due to high call volume. Please run away from buying this product. I could have purchased at least 5 other players with the cost of my time trying to get one of Sony's to work ( even at minimum wage). Worst product & service I have ever encountered..

Unit has lots of nice features and the video quality is excellent however within five months the left audio started cutting out intermittently. Guess Sony's reputation has faded into the past. Not happy at all.

    Broke after 6 months

Bought this player 12/29/13 and now after 6 months dvds that used to play perfectly are not registering or skipping throughout the entire movie. This has been happening every day for 5 days. I called Sony since it has a parts warranty and they want me to pay $33 plus ship it to them for labor costs. After shipping it is the same cost as buying a new player! I will not be buying another Sony product to say the least.

I am on my third and last Sony DVD player. Maybe third time will be the charm. DVD player freeze frames movies about half way through. No its not my movies because I have tried 30 different ones. Also the remote does not seem to turn on the player with the first push of the button nor does it load the dvd the first time either. Don't understand this. Maybe I should have my head examined for trying it again. Thought Sony was top of the line. Guess not anymore.
