It allows for an all HDMI installation from TV to 5.1 Receiver to DVD player. The player makes a slight noise while operating, but it isn't noticeable once the show starts. That's the only reason I downgraded it one start, as I'm curious if it will last.

Yes, we had an old model TV. Anyway, each summer our grandchildren stay several weeks with us and they like to select DVD movies from the library to watch. ~ This little player suits the bill and fits nicely on the shelf above the TV. PERFECT!
