Great lens overall
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great lens overall. Occasionally the auto focus acts up and doesn’t allow me to take photos. Switching to manual focus no problem

Great Telphoto Lens for the Money!

Not for sports...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for shooting softball games. Loses way to much clarity at the 240mm f6.3 range. Most of my shot were unusable. Spend the extra 200.00 and get the G series 70-300 if you're looking to shoot outdoor sports.

Not a good copy
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I shoot with Sony bodies and lenses. I am guessing that this was a bad copy. I returned it. I like the thought of it. Try your own physical copy (rent it) and check it for yourself.

Love this lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to use as an all-purpose lens for my Sony a7. I am totally pleased with my purchase. The lens delivers great quality images and is fully integrated with all the great electronic bells & whistles associated with the Sony menu options. I am a hobbyist, not a pro, but to my eye the images I've taken are sharp, clean, and the color rendition is spot-on. I was afraid the larger aperture range would be too limiting, but given the extraordinary capability of the a7 to get great shots at high (2400 - 3600) ISO levels I have been pleasantly surprised by the ability to get usable shots indoors without a flash. About the only test I have not put this lens through yet is with flash photography, but I have been blown away with how this lens has performed to date. The only real knock on the lens I had read in reviews was related to its weight, but I felt like my body/lens combo felt reasonably well balanced in my hand, and the weight seemed less than my old a350 body with a zoom lens attached to that. I think I will buy one more FE lens, the 55 mm, F1.8, and between that and this super-zoom, I will be pretty well covered for all my needs. This lens far exceeded my expectations.

Very good all-in-one lens!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have several Sony cameras- a5100, a6000, RX10M3, HX-80 and RX100M5, in addition to my A7II. I've been moving away from using them to focus on my full-frame A7II, and I've been happy with my 28mm, 50mm and 85mm primes, but I wanted something with more zoom and for general "walkaround" use. I was torn between the 24-105 F4 and the 24-240, as I've read that the 24-105 F4 has much better image quality but I didn't want to give up the extra reach of the 24-240. I finally decided to get the 24-240 and I'm not disappointed! Overall image quality is better than what I expected, although not nearly as good as the primes. Low light performance is as expected, it struggles a bit to focus but I was able to take pictures in lower light than I thought I could. There are two quirks to my lens which I'll detail below which keep me from giving this 5 stars, but overall It's quite good! THE GOOD Excellent zoom range for full-frame cameras Tight zoom ring prevents zoom creep Good color rendition in bright light THE BAD Heaver than expected, although balances fair on my A7II Pricey for a 3.5-6.3 aperture lens Internal zooming would be much better than having the lens expand and contract when zooming THE UGLY Sometimes won't focus at full zoom, even in bright light; I have to zoom in a bit and then back out, and then it focuses fine. This doesn't happen all the time, but maybe 20% of the time The lens is supposed to zoom out without turning, but mine was actually rotating slightly the first few times I used it. I ended up zooming it in and out SLOWLY with one hand while holding the end of lens with the other so it would not rotate. After 3-4 times it seemed to resolve the issue, now it zooms in and out with no lens rotation OVERALL It's a great lens for Sony FE e-mount systems and if you know it's limitations I think you will be pleasantly surprised!

The lens for all occasions
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I literally spent hours agonizing over which telephoto lens I should purchase for my growing love of photographing kids, landscape & wildlife. I finally opted for the Sony FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Full-Frame E-Mount Telephoto and I am very glad I did. I am astounded by the IQ of this lens, it has taken my images to the next level. Razor sharp photos and fast responsive AF are the two biggest improvements that I was hoping for, and this lens has delivered both. I am also amazed at a much better low light performance. Undoubtedly this lens is a fair chunk of change, but worth every bit of it. Can't express how much difference this lens has made for me, Super Satisfied.

Better than my 70-200 F4
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am not a professional but have just bought the 24-240 (did not care for the quality of the ziess 24-70 I had so was looking for kinda replacement) and have been shooting on the a7ii for a couple days. I already had bought the 70-200 F4. Honestly after doing many comparison shots at equal stops and distances I think my 24-240 is sharper over the same range than my 70-200. Because of that I have decided to return the 70-200 since I’m still with in my 45 day window. Not sure if I got a really good copy of the 24-240 or a bad copy of the 70-200 but between the sharpness, extra range, and almost macro ability of the 24-240 it is a no brainier for my needs. And 500 bucks cheaper as well.

Does its job and then some
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Been holding out for the 70-200/2.8 G Master when I stumbled upon this lens. I have used it before for a few shots but nothing long term. I felt the viewfinder was dark indoors (f/6.3, duh) but assumed for a grand it must be an okay lens. I had switched from Nikon to Sony last January and only have wide lenses, and needed something longer. That is when I spotted this lens. I admit the price had a lot to do with it. It was open Box and $599, and I had $145 in Best Buy points. Plus I get $25 in points for buying it. How can that be bad? So, it does what it is supposed to do. Do not rate this lens as you would expect the 24-70GM or 70-200GM to grade. That's like grading a cat on how well it barks. Buy a dog if you want a bark. I need an all around lens for travel and to carry only one body and one lens outdoors. When outside a 200mm is a normal lens. This lens exceeds my expectations. Tomorrow I have my first shoot with it and as it will be a sunny day I see no issues. It is weather sealed too, so this is going to be fun. I had the Nikon 28-300 for all around shooting and it did not feel as nice as this lens. This lens is metal, although I do dislike the shininess of it. I'd rather have a dull color, but not a big deal. A 72mm filter size is easy to feed, and while the build in stabilization is overlkill for my A7rII, it is nice to have in case I get another body. It just shows how far Sony went to make this lens usable to all shooters.

Absolutely the best telephoto zoom available
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Compared to the excellent FE 28-70mm kit lens on the a7 & a7II, the FE 24-240 is absolutely magnificent and a solid performer. It is not rated as a macro, but at macro range through maximum zoom, the pictures are clear and exquisite. Being an amateur, the FE 24-240mm results have others thinking I may be a professional. The a7II and this lens is an outstanding combination.

Beautiful lens!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good price for the wide range. Got some great pictures from it. The end of the extremes you loose slight picture quality. It is a heavy lens.

For the price - a great buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok let's get serious. If you are a true amateur and the A7 was a stretch then you simply won't be plunking down $2400 for a G class telephoto. But this - purchased open box - delivers a 240mm telephoto for $720. Not bad. Yes, I'd love a suite of G class or zeiss lenses but... i work at a regular job. This work, is decently sharp, and serves the serious but not wealthy amateur.
