This lens produces better, clearer pictures than the stock lens. You have to be careful about your focus The depth of field is not as great as the stock lens unless you you stop it down and slow the exposure time. You must know a little about photography to get good results but the pictures a crisp and clear.

    Good (Not Great) Lens

If you just want a 50mm focal length for photos without needing fast and silent AF, this lens is good enough and decently sharp enough. If you need anything more than that, you'd have to just lower your expectations.

This was my first FE lens purchase and it is worth it. The price alone is what caught my eye. The body is mostly plastic but still quite durable. Overall the construction is top notch. Focusing is not as fast as the Zeiss line but if you give the ring a little twist the right way, it helps and focuses in a flash

If you’re not counting on AF to work this is the lens for you. There’s a reason it’s always discounted. A shame because the similar 35mm 1.8 is great.

    What I needed...

Needed a fast 50mm lens and this does exactly what I need. It has a low price point but the photo quality is very good. Sharp images are not a problem with this lens on any of Sony's cameras. I use it on my a6000 and get great results. The focus motor does make a bit of noise but for photos that is not an issue.

A Good Lens for a Great Price

This is a really great lens choice if you're on a budget. The image is a little soft around the edges, but that's hardly something to complain about with the price you're paying. I use this lens on my Sony a7R II for both portraits and video.

Great For The Price, but You Get What You Pay For

Bottom Line: This is a solid lens $200. AF focusing is loud and not very good. I gave it 4 stars because it's an exceptional value. If you manual focus - this is a respectable A7-series lens. (Full disclosure: I returned this lens and got the Zeiss 55mm....again, you get what you pay for. It's incredible)

This is a great little lens for my A7III. It’s perfect for portraits and good to have for low light conditions too. Very sharp and I find the rendering inoffensive. It’s a lens I always carry now.

This is the quintessential nifty fifty lens by Sony. Super light and decent build quality with a buttery F1.8 aperture. Worth the $$$ and a must have lens. I keep this one on at all times for my run and gun shooting.
