Great lens, but especially a great price for a full frame lens! The autofocus can be a bit loud and doesn’t work very fast so good luck with getting pictures in motion. Good for low light portraits.

The f/1.8 is great for portrait shots. I use a variety of lenses when I shoot with my Sony Alpha A7iii, but I'm always pleased when I use this one. Shots are crisp and clear. 10/10

I own the a7, so my review is based on my experience with that model. I agree with the multiple comments regarding the slow autofocus and the loud motor noise when focusing. The relatively cheap kit lens SEL2870 is far better than this F/1.8 lens in those two areas. However, I decided to keep this lens because it is SHARP and it is a F/1.8. I left my kit lens and my Zeiss SEL2470Z at home during a baseball game, and I was forced to get creative with this lens to take shots. Here are some ideas that worked somewhat well for me: 1- Slow autofocus - a) Use the DMF or S mode. If you use the continue autofocus, the lens might get into a vicious cycle of focusing and never truly focusing. b) Use Flex Spot (small or medium). If you use Wide area, the lens will try to focus in a wider area, and it may struggle finding focus. Help the lens, and tell the camera where to focus. 2- Loud motor a) This is an annoyance that makes its way to the video sound. The only way I found to make it workable is to do videos of subjects moving within the focus area. If the subject moves out of the focus area two things happen: 1) The subject gets blurred for a longer period than usual, 2) The motor noise will make its way to your video. I decided to keep this lens for low light shots, and avoid videos in most cases. The lens is sharp, and for the money I believe it is great.

Great lens for the price, has a great f stop and takes amazing photos. Highly recommend for beginners and pros alike.

Here's another steal! Deal of the day was 50 bucks cheaper. It's a prime lense but that fifty nifty never fails. Remember it's not the equipment it's how you use it! Or what ever they say. It is A little louder but cmon have you been outside? No one is gonna run up to you telling you to shut that thing up.

The autofocus is a little slow so if you shoot quick moving subjects you may want to go ahead and pay the additional price for a quicker lens. Overall for the price it’s a great buy.

This lens provides excellent, crisp images. Easy to use. I highly recommend this lens for everyday photos or videos.

Definitely a must have. Paired it with my Sony A7iii and it takes very crisp images. I do a lot of various types of photography from portraits to automotive. Very versatile. It’s going to be mostly preference between the 50 and an 85mm and based on your needs. I say well worth it.

I honestly disagree with the reviews on this lens... I love the f1.8 capability and the fact it takes great quality pictures! If I would have to get any lens that shoots good and doesn't hurt my pocket this is a must have!!!

Its a nice lense and great for its price. I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for a large varity of shots. It doesn't zoom, and you can't change the focus. But it has really good quality. A good lense for stills, and close-ups

I just bought an A7III and needed at least one native, full frame (non-adapted) lens. A 50mm focal length is prob the first choice for most ppl. It’s relatively fast for an inexpensive Full Frame prime @ f1.8, provides edge to edge sharpness in the image, is lightweight and supports Manual Focus, Auto Focus and in camera iris control. Build quality is good. The next step up in a FE prime from Sony is the G class and that’s around $1300, so this is a bargain for amateur / hobby use. Comes with a removable / reversible shade. Highly Recommend!

The lens is everything you need. Perfect for outdoor shoots and indoor as well. Very quiet and lightweight and the qualitybus anazing!

For the money you can’t beat it! It takes decent pictures, the bokeh is nice. I’ve heard that the focus motor is loud in some videos but I never had an issue with it on mine. It’s a very light lens. It’s the least expensive prime lens for the Sony full frame format cameras. On sale they are under $200.00 and for that price, why not get a 50mm 1.8 especially if all you have is the kit lens.

Such an incredible lens! I use it on my Sony A7iii and I love it! You really can't go wrong with a 50mm as it is an essential for any photographer! Needed a fast 50mm for an upcoming shoot. Once i put this lens on my camera, I’ve rarely taken it off. It offers sharp enough photos for the price. Would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a solid value 50mm lens.

Wife needed an upgraded lens for photos. Only great for still photos. They at more details then the stock lens.
