Not All That Impressive

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Sony FE50mm f/1.8 lens to go with my new Sony a7rii camera that I purchased from Best Buy. The camera was body only and after spending so much for the camera I didn't have a lot left over for a lens but wanted something to try out the new camera. This is a fixed focal length lens with no zoom. I knew this going in but I'm just not all that happy with the quality of the photos taken with the lens. I am a newbie at photography though and I have gotten a few good pictures with it but overall I'm not that impressed. At the same time for the price (this is the cheapest lens Sony makes I believe) its ok just not great. But I mean this lens is $250 and not $2,500 so I wouldn't expect it to be great. I plan to purchase more lenses in the future so it's not like this will be the one and only lens I will use so its not a big deal.

A Must have!

I think if you don't have this than you must like the 35mm. I love a good 50mm and usually shooting below 1.8 I rarely do. I would recommend having.

Excellent Lens

I use all the time 85mm (it's awesome too) but sometimes I need to get close to the subject and this 50mm it's perfect for it. The sharpness on this lens it's phenomenal. I really recommend it.

Pretty nice

Especially when I'm in a dimmer and darker setting, it tends to struggle a bit. Even so, I still enjoy using this lens. It's depth of field is nice at 1.8 and it's great for portraits. For the price too, I guess it's not bad.
