This is a lens I have wanted ever since I started taking photos with a camera. Its output is unmatched - the wide aperture allows effortless photography even in low light, and you can't really match this level of bokeh and depth of field with a lesser lens. Paired with a high-resolution sensor like the 61 megapixel one on the A7CR, it produces such sharp images that you can crop in and get the equivalent of excellent 35 mm or 50 mm photos effortlessly - it's a Leica Q3 with the ability to change lenses! The only cons I could think of are threefold: first, chromatic aberration is a little out of control but is remedied with postprocessing corrections or in-camera creative looks; second, the lens itself is just a little large, which makes less of a difference with the non-C line of Sony full frame cameras; and the third issue is that the autofocus is just a tiny bit less surehanded in low light than the newer GM lenses - and maybe even less confident than that of the APS-C 50 mm 1.8 OSS lens I also own. That's not a problem if you're pretty adept at manual focus - there's a dedicated AF/MF switch on the side that eventually becomes second nature to toggle, and you can move quickly when you start to notice the AF is getting wishy-washy. It's for this reason that I'm looking forward to whatever Mark II version of this lens is currently cooking, but from a pure output standpoint, I don't think this lens can be beat, and for me it's worth the slight added bulk on my compact camera. Would recommend over and over again.

What a sharp full frame lens to pair perfectly with my a7RIV. I'm no pro by any means but this lens has helped me take some great quality pictures. Works extremely well in low light. I travel frequently and have picked up photography as a hobby to capture the beautiful landscapes. The color definitely pops more with this lens than my previous Nikon cropped sensor lenses. The detail is there! Even zoomed in the pictures retain their quality. This is a very pricey lens, however if you can afford it I would splurge on it. The focal length is good for many different types of photography.

One of my favorite lens! Although you’re sacrificing zoom in/out abilities, it makes up for it with high quality crisp photos! I love the how fast the auto focus is for fast paced shooting, and light the lens is compared to others I currently have!

Excellent lens with amazing quality that you would expect to find in a prime lens. I have it matched with my Sony A6600 and I am very happy with the purchase. I use it mostly for real estate and marketing videos/pictures which turn out great. Hoping to use it for landscapes and astrophotography soon.

No disrespect to G MASTER GEEKS but if you do this more for a hobby and for fun and maybe somewhat get paid in the future I'd go with the 20mm G lens over this lens literally owned both of these and it was no different..YOUTUBERS who are paid to tell you things will say GM GM GM ....sony did such a great job on the 20mm 1.8 that is 2yrs newer in technology that it should be labeled a GM ...in my opinion this lens was not worth 500 dollars more...you don't have to be professional to have 20/20 vision or have the eye for photography...I put average because its a great lens but way too close to a 20mm 1.8 this lens is actually sharper at 1.7 which matches the sharpness of the 20mm do as you please but I won't make 1500 doing this for my hobby so I took this back to avoid 15% restocking fee and kept my 20mm 1.8..

Amazing results! This camera will capture beautiful wide angles shots without any distortion. My favorite lens for any occasion. If I have space to carry just one lens, 24 mm G master will take that space. I am very happy with my purchase.

Sony's lenses are of usual high quality. This one pushes above that high standard. For its size it feels light, although the weight of assurance of quality build is present. For now I am using it in my Sony a6000. It feels heavier than the camera, and due to crop sensor it behaves as a 36mm. The speed it focuses is instantaneous, and the Aperture ring in the lens becomes second nature to be used, and an unexpected convenience while filming, as it can have smooth rotation switched on. I can't review 100% about Aperture given I am still using a crop sensor (buying soon Sony a7R III to fix that), but at f/1.4 the background in close up composition simply melt. A surreal blend of colors that gets me rethinking possibilities of composition. Yes, this lens is FUN to use. It is easy to use and durable, so you don't worry about it too much (yet I recommend get the insurance, this is still over a $1000 equipment). It is weather sealed too. Only side notes I can make are that for astrophotography this lens literarily shines. I was in a light polluted area, with rain, and the Autofocus still locked with precision at f/1.4 at stars, like magic... And the Extra customizable button to side is only programmable in newer Sony Cameras, and mostly Full Frame. Certainly not in Sony a6000. And by the way, get this lens regardless of using a Crop Sensor or Full Frame, price bites, but when you are having fun with wide angles and landscapes, or low depth of field close ups, you will grin.

This is my second Sony G Master lens in addition to my 24-70 2.8 GM. So far I have no put this lens down! Picture quality is absolutely amazing paired with my A7Rii. The bokeh is fantastic, it is much lighter than my 24-70, and overall it is just a great lens to walk around with. If you can get your hands on one....buy it!

As soon as I saw the option to "Add to Cart" I bought it, and received it 4 days later. It's simply an AMAZING lens. Its sharp, light and fun to use. No need to really go into detail, Its a G master lens that produces G master quality, its that simple. I also own the 16-35 f4, 24-70 Gm, and the 85 f1.8. I plan to use this lens for Astro, landscape, street, and creative portraits. Im making this my main lens if i ever need to just carry one. I've been doing a lot of street photography in NYC and being that its f1.4, the shots i take at night are sharp and crisp. The bokeh is also great, I love how the colors come out of this lens. If you're a photographer who prints large photos, You're going to love the detail and sharpness this lens offers.

Just bought my first song a7iii and decided to pair it with this lens. This lens is a Beast! I’m still new to photography/videography. I really enjoy the low light capability and the bokeh is beautiful. Ordered near Sept 27 and just received it on Oct 9th since it was back ordered.

It lives up to the GM name. Sharp, minimal distortion and aberration. Great build quality. This is a life-long lens. I've used it for everything from landscape to portraits. A bit expensive for a 1.4. It could definitely shave 100 to 150 off the price.

I mainly use this lens for videography and let me say.. it's amazing! The 1.4 is a life saver when filming in low light conditions and it's bokeh effect is smooth.

This lens is great for low light photography. Nice for astrophotography also when paired with the right camera. My daytime photos also looked awesome . Great bokeh while subjects looked sharp in the foreground.

This is probably one of the best lenses I ever shot with, it’s tack sharp across the frame even at 1.4 with only some minor CA(fringe). It’s smaller than most f1.4 lenses for full frame but not necessarily light. If you’re into astrophotography you’re in for a treat

If you are looking for a wide angle, but not super wide, lens, then this is the lens for you. Unlike a lot of Sony GMaster lenses, this is small and lightweight. Perfect for gimbal work, and those landscape shots. I do wish Sony had something this good in 35mm. This is also a great lens to use for pet photography, animals look amazing.
