Big sound without a sub but it really needs one.

The sound clarity is great regardless but if you want the deep emotional tons you have to add one. Tiny gripe but the HDMIs on this are really susceptible to relatively small amounts of dust and they will transmit the distortion.

Soundbar packs a punch - pair it with the sub

I purchased this soundbar with the matching sub and couldn't be happier. The wireless sub is great and set up of everything was super easy. I like that it has bluetooth and I can play music on it from my phone. It makes movies feel like I'm in the theatre and it adds a lot to my TV shows and sports. Very happy with the purchase. I went into the store and the Best Buy reps and I played around with different sounbars and I was very happy with this one.

One of the best soundbars, but not = separates

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've typically avoided soundbars as there is only so much you can do to create separation from a soundbar. The latest Dolby processing in this soundbar does a better job than any other soundbar I tried, but be realistic, this wil not challenge a surround speaker system. But as I was looking for a small footprint single location device, this does well. Without the sub (SW5), there is very little bass down in what I all the impact region, those movie moments you feel, like the footsteps in Jurassic Park. I have considered pairing the small wireless rear speakers Sony offers, but have not yet, and overall for occasional use, this is pretty decent. Had some initial difficulty with this not always automatically coming on with an XBR 65A80J, but a firmware update seems to have solved that.

Surprised!

After listening to the Arc, the Bose 900, and a few others, I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of the Sony with the sub. When the sales associate turned on the optional rear surrounds, I was hooked. Also listened to Sony’s 7000 series sound bar, but couldn’t differentiate enough difference to justify the extra money. Got it home, hooked it up in my medium sized living room, ran all of the updates and calibration, and was blown away. My best friend, who does audio work, and owns an Arc system said that he thinks he might like the sound quality on the Sony even more than his Sonos. Very happy with this purchase, and recommend this sound bar.

Dolby Surround muddy

I needed a sound bar for my bedroom because the television volume just wasn't enough. I picked the HT a5000 with the 200 watt sub and the SR5s. Sony has it that once you enter the menu if you have a Sony television, the integrate many of the options in the television menu which was nice. This would include the voice surround levels and base levels. However, when you push the settings menu, it doesn't back out to the streaming provider or the show that you were watching. They actually make you pick the home screen and you have to re-enter the show that you were watching which is quite clumsy and not user friendly. With regards to the sound fields, there is an on and off option and then there's basically three fields. You have the dobie surround and then you have Sony's version of height and then there's a third option. The only one that sounds decent is the Sony vertical height. The dobie surround was horrible. Absolutely unacceptable for such a high price. Soundbar the the base was okay on the sound bar tends to be base forward which is great cuz that's what I like but the system just did not do it for the price. The surrounds which I had the good ones the SR. 5s were barely noticeable on different content of movies and music. The sound bar sounded better on music than movies. However, nevertheless, I ended up returning the unit and gotten a surnace arc.

Your feedback is extremely important to us and is very much appreciated. For optimum performance, it is recommended to install the latest software version of the soundbar.
Depending on the combination of the setting of SOUND FIELD and input signal, surround sound processing may not work effectively. The surround effect may be subtle, depending on the program or disc. To play multi-channel audio, check the digital audio output setting on the device connected to the speaker system.

Needs a subwoofer.

Almost automatic on my Samsung. Sound is a little heavy in the midrange. Don’t have to but a Subwoofer is almost essential.

A great Soundbar!

That being said it's a very well made soundbar with a quality build and plenty of power to push the speakers. It's rather large to make sure you think about how you are going to set this up. I will eventually set this up in my main living room when i purchase a larger T.V. stand and then i will also purchase the 2 wireless speakers and the subwoofer.

Great sound boom boom

Unbeatable Sound

Incredible Soundbar

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Awsome point blank i have the sub will be getting the rear speakers in the near future ******warning, if you're considering mounting the soundbar to your wall mount, avoid the recommeded universal soundbar mount because it is not wide enough for The 5000 model ,, the recommend mont extend to 35" and the 5000 sound bar is 38" as far as the mounting holes underneath, Other than that im extremely satisfied with the sound and the bulid of the sound bar and sub , ( i got the 200w) ..
