The Xbox elite is still the best ever, but they are getting closer.

As someone with an Xbox Series X and a PS5, it's easy to say that the PS5 controller had more features and is a bit more immersive. This design also rocks. But, the battery life is horrible - in comparison to my Xbox Series controllers. I'd definitely recommend this controller, especially if it's on sale, but expect to charge it often (which I'm sure you know)

The haptics alone are a compelling reason to get the PS5 over the XSX, which only has old-school vibration. I can feel my horse gallop in Ghost of Tsushima and I can feel “two triggers” in Returnal. The microphone on the unit is great at speech to text and saves you from having to awkwardly type on an onscreen keyboard. Other than that, the touchscreen is ok but rarely used, the controller speaker is still kind of cheesy and can be disabled. You can plug headphones right into the controller and game quietly. Kind of pricy, but not something you need to buy more than once.

This is towards Sony and less Best Buy.
