Great performance and excellent service at Best Buy. As soon as I walked in someone asked if I needed assistance and proceeded to get my online order for me to check out. Ordered some online and picked up same day. Wonderful experience! Product feels solid in my hands and buttons all work great as does the touch screen even with a call screen protector applied. Charging port is difficult to access but that is a very minor issue. Wish battery life was longer but with max brightness and volume I guess that is to be expected a bit (3-4 hrs playtime est.)

Thrives in certain scenarios, but can’t do it all

The PS Portal is, by a lot of definitions, a solid device. It’s essentially built like a dualsense with a tablet sandwiched in between the sides and is largely comfortable to use. The big notice with this thing is that Sony’s protocol for connecting to your PS5 is…imperfect to say the least. Bottom line, I find this thing works great for stuff like sports games, card games, some indie games, or other types of games that don’t super heavily rely on precision timing. The input delay introduced through remote play is passable, but I wouldn’t dare use it to play any FPS or even some more difficult platformers. All in all, it has its uses, and if your use case aligns with the mentioned scenarios above, I’d recommend it.

We bought the PlayStation Portal mainly so my son could keep playing his PS5 when he has sleepovers at his grandparents’ or friends’ houses. Mission accomplished he literally packs it like it’s another limb now. The fact that he can just pick up and play his saved games on the big TV at home the second he walks back in the door (no cloud saves or anything to mess with) is pure magic for him. Streaming quality has been rock-solid on our home Wi-Fi and even holds up pretty well on my parents’ decent-but-nothing-special internet. The screen looks fantastic, battery life easily gets him through an evening + morning of Fortnite and Roblox without needing a charge, and the built-in controller feels exactly like a real DualSense.

I was a little hesitant to buy this as it's wifi only and wasn't sure how much I would use it, but as it turns out I use it all the time. When the family is watching something that doesn't interest me I grab the portal and am all set. If I'm travelling I can connect it to my hotspot and stream games without issue. There are the occasional hiccups, but mostly it works like a champ. I love the ergonomics and the screen. Having dual sense is also rather awesome. Highly recommend this.

more useful with cloud streaming, still caveats

The PlayStation Portal is a fantastic way to bring PS5 gaming off the TV. The 8-inch display is bright and sharp, controls feel familiar (DualSense-style triggers and sticks), and setup is painless — it really does feel like a handheld PS5. With the recent addition of cloud streaming, the Portal has become even more flexible: you can play games without needing your PS5 powered on or even in the same house (where cloud service is available), which is perfect for travel or when someone else is using the TV. That said, some real-world limits remain. Cloud streaming means the Portal is now much more dependent on your network — on unreliable Wi-Fi or limited cellular hotspots you’ll notice lag, compression, or stuttering. Expect higher data usage (cloud play can chew through GBs fast), and a steady, low-latency connection is required for a great experience. Battery life still isn’t amazing during long sessions, and if you plan to use it away from Wi-Fi you’ll want to watch data caps. Also, headset/voice-chat support is more limited than a full PS5 setup — check compatibility for the headset you plan to use.

The PS portal is a necessary accessory for the PlayStation ecosystem. It’s really good for when you don’t want to have your TV on, but you want to play your titles. I love the high-definition screen and the features it provides. For example, it has the same rumble feature and most of the features of the PlayStation game controller. If you’d like the convenience of playing your games remotely as long as you have a robust Wi-Fi, I highly recommend this device as a great addition to your PlayStation 5.

PS Portal is okay. Most people don't talk about the fact that the joysticks themselves are smaller than the actual PS5 dual sense controller,so it makes it harder to play fps games. Like the build quality and the idea behind the portal but between the bad connection for hotspot AT&T 5G Turbo with full bars and the smaller joysticks I ended up returning it. Also my PS5 pro is hooked up to Ethernet on the 6ghz WiFi 6e band. At home it worked fine, but I wanted something while I'm away so now I just use remote play on my laptop with a spare controller and have a much better experience.

Great device for handheld, on-the-go play. The controller feels comfortable and solid in the hand, and the screen looks amazing with vibrant visuals. Gameplay is enjoyable overall, especially when traveling or playing casually. Cons: Connectivity can sometimes be difficult to get working smoothly, and I do experience occasional lag during gameplay. That said, my Wi-Fi setup may be contributing to the lag, so results could vary depending on connection quality.

Perfect for gaming on the go! Great handheld, works at its best if your console at home is hardwired but will certainly stream clear with a strong Wi-Fi connection. Perfect for when I’m on the road traveling for work.

Perfect for Dad Time After the Kids Take Over the

I picked up the PlayStation Portal for myself after realizing the TV in my house is permanently claimed by my three kids. This thing has been a lifesaver. Setup was quick, and once it synced to my PS5, I was gaming from the couch, the backyard, or wherever I could grab a little peace and quiet. The screen looks great, the controls feel just like the DualSense, and it’s surprisingly comfortable to use for long sessions. Every now and then, it’ll lose connection to the PS5 or the image will get a bit pixelated, but it always reconnects quickly and keeps going strong. If you’ve got a full house and still want to squeeze in some gaming time without fighting over the TV, this little device is a game-changer.
