Amazing when it’s functioning as intended but it drops network connectivity nearly every time I use it, regardless of the strength of the WiFi signal or configuration. I have a google 6e tri band mesh router with three access points, along with 1 gb per second fiber service (1gb both upload and download) and it still repeatedly drops connection. Pretty sad because the screen, sound, and build quality are all top notch but that isn’t worth anything unless the wireless connection is stable. It’s worth noting that no other devices on my network ever drop connection or lag whatsoever. Also, my ps5 is hardwired directly to the base modem in the google config.

I decided to get this learning that they've added the cloud streaming update. It's still in BETA so the cloud library isn't too impressive. Let's talk about a few things. Connectivity - I have a pretty strong wifi signal at home. Playing in the living room using remote play with the PS5 within 6 feet, there is little to no lag & not too much graphical flaw. I have also connected using hotspot from my phone away from home. Though not perfect, it works. There is a slight lag and graphics were choppy (connecting to PS5), so i'd recommend maybe just a 2D RPG. I haven't had a chance to connect it at another location outside my home using a strong wifi signal yet, so I will update my review in the future. Bluetooth connectivity (headphone/earphone options) - This is a negative for me. You have the option to use a 3mm input jack or ONLY the Playstation PULSE earbuds or PULSE headphones. I have the pulse 3d and was disapointed that i am limited to connecting that using a 3mm jack only to the system.

When it works it is the best accessory to the PS5! Depending on your internet setup, it may not always be able to connect to your PS5 in every room. But for me, I have the PS5 hooked up to a Ethernet in one room. And then I play in another near my router and 90% of the time I have no issues and love being able to play my Playstation games in front of the TV.

A nice little luxury that is very much a nice-to-have, and not a critical item, but is a handy addition to the PlayStation ecosystem with the right setup. Use case for me is to accommodate some of the same use cases as Switch - take it in handheld mode when you want to do some casual gaming or grinding in a game while having the TV on (or when someone else does). Performance will very much hinge on your Ethernet/Wifi set up (best w/ Ethernet to PlayStation & strong WiFi signal w/ limited barriers between you & router). A twitch shooter might be tough to play remotely or in a far off room (manifesting as visual quality degradation), but a more casual game or grinding in Borderlands can be fine. As always with Sony, there are some quirky design decisions (volume buttons; hidden power button that ALSO needs a PlayStation button that doesn’t function as your main system’s PS button; no haptic press on screen - a virtual trackpad instead that requires new muscle memory to replicate a press on standard pad). BUT - if you’ve need to satisfy the itch to play in random spots in the house (within reason), it’s a neat little toy.

A really good devise for relaxing in bed or if you share a TV with someone. Requires a strong wifi connection especially if you're on a different network. Even though the joysticks are supposed to feel like a Dual Sense they fell off to me. Just a little too tall.

The PlayStation Portal looks and feels great, and it really shines when you have a strong, stable Wi-Fi connection. The screen quality is excellent, and the responsiveness is solid when streaming from the PS5. It does exactly what it promises, lets you take your PS5 gaming away from the main TV and enjoy it anywhere in the house (or outside which I did not try) That said, I do wish it had a bit more versatility. It would be amazing if you could use it to stream your favorite shows or at least act as a remote control for what’s playing on the PS5 when you’re not gaming. Right now, it’s strictly focused on gameplay. Overall, it’s a sleek and fun way to extend the PlayStation 5 experience, but it could be even better with added media features.

I enjoy it for the most part. It gives me the opportunity to play while my wife can watch TV. I like the portability and another option of gaming that it provides. Nice to travel and still be able to play your games without having to pack up the whole system. Only downside is the lag or connectivity due to various internet speeds.

I’ve had the PlayStation Portal for a while now, and to be honest, my feelings about it have been a real roller coaster. When it was first announced, I, like a lot of people, just rolled my eyes. It seemed like a pointless gadget—just another way to do something the phone and a Backbone controller could already do. But I got one, and now? I’ve actually become pretty attached to the thing. What I love The design is really what makes it. It feels like a premium piece of kit right out of the box, and the ergonomics are perfect. As someone with larger hands, it’s a world away from the cramped feeling you get with a phone clipped to a smaller controller. You get the full-on DualSense experience—with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers—wrapped around a surprisingly crisp 8-inch LCD screen. Sure, it’s not a fancy OLED, but for a streaming device, it looks fantastic. The main reason I bought it was for gaming when my TV was tied up, and for that, it’s a dream. There’s no comparison to rigging up a phone. You just hit the button, and in seconds, you're back in your game, haptic feedback and all. It’s made a massive dent in my backlog because I can easily jump into a session while my wife is watching TV or when I’m chilling in bed. The connectivity at home has also been rock-solid for me. My PS5 is wired to my router, so my network is strong, and the Portal has run flawlessly, even far from the console. The experience is so smooth that it genuinely feels like playing on the console directly. The major headaches Here’s where things get complicated. First, the Bluetooth situation is infuriating. The fact that Sony forces you to buy their expensive PlayStation Link wireless headsets just to get wireless audio is pure anti-consumer nonsense. It’s a baffling design choice, and it's easily the Portal's biggest weakness. I just end up using wired earbuds with the 3.5mm jack, which is a bit of a letdown. And while it works great on my home Wi-Fi, the "on-the-go" experience is a crapshoot. I’ve had some success using it on strong public Wi-Fi, and it’s even worked decently on a 5G hotspot. But the performance is totally dependent on the network you're on, so you can't rely on it for any kind of consistent travel play. If you're on a crowded network, you'll see stutters, lag, and visual artifacts. This isn’t a Switch replacement by any stretch. Finally, the lack of media streaming apps is a head-scratcher. It's connected to my PS5, so why can't I watch Netflix or Disney+ on it? It's limited strictly to gaming. Final thoughts This is not a general-purpose handheld for everyone, and it was never meant to be. It's a very specific device for a very specific type of player. If you have a solid home network and often find yourself needing to play your PS5 away from the main TV, it’s a killer device. The convenience of a premium, plug-and-play Remote Play experience is seriously addictive. But if you expect an all-in-one portable gaming machine, the Portal will disappoint you. For $200, you're buying a luxury accessory for your PS5. If your lifestyle fits its specific—and somewhat narrow—use case, then you will absolutely love it. If not, you’re better off looking at other options or just sticking to Remote Play on your phone.

After the recent firmware updates, the PlayStation Portal has become a completely different device — in the best way. The improvements to connection stability and streaming quality are instantly noticeable. My gameplay is smoother, input lag is reduced, and the overall experience feels far more reliable than it did at launch. The updated network handling makes remote play feel almost seamless, even when I’m not right next to my router. Visual quality looks sharper and more consistent, and the device wakes, connects, and syncs to the PS5 faster than before. A standout for me: with a premium subscription, you can now play directly from the cloud — no console required. Streaming games straight over the internet works surprisingly well, which is perfect when you’re away from your PS5 or don’t want to power it on. The Portal was always a cool idea, but now it finally delivers on what it promised: true, high-quality handheld PS5 gaming — even without the console. For anyone who wants portability, flexibility, or a way to game while traveling, the recent updates make this absolutely worth owning. Highly recommend if you gave it a pass before — it’s genuinely improved.

This device became more interesting to me once Sony opened up the cloud. It has great visuals, Sony Sound, and if you have a great internet connection will connect to your PS5 and the cloud. The software has been updated for ease of use but the lack of bluetooth hurts those who may have other devices they would like to connect to the device. Overall a great added peripheral for your PS5 or PRO experience to play anywhere at home or away if you can connect to a great wifi on the road.

System arrived in excellent conditions. It was a gift for my partner and they absolutely love it. There has not been any issues. The PS Portable connects to your playstation, so you must have a playstation 1st in order to use for best experience. It also connects via infernet so a good connection is mecessary for both the PS and the Portable to play with quality. There is a beta option within but you must have PS+ to use. For us this worked great. Im happy i was able to get it.

Honestly can’t go wrong with the device, does exactly what it says it does flawlessly. What some people don’t understand is this isn’t a stand-alone device but much rather a remote play device. Long as you have the ps5 to pair then you’re good to go. It’s convenient when you just want to relax anywhere without being locked into one area or someone wants to use the TV. Overall, I’ve had no issues with the device and would recommend to someone that is looking for convenience with the ps5

Honestly, at first, I didn’t have much use for the device because, let’s face it, if you are at the same place as your physical console you’ll just rather play on a bigger screen. However, I had to travel for work and, as you all can agree, it was impractical to travel light with good old ps5 in a carry on. That’s when I tapped into the full potential of the PS Portal. Imagine going through Elden ring withdrawal light years away from your console and then being able to access it (as long as you leave it in rest mode) from afar and, as long as the wifi is good, play seamlessly on your PS Portal. It became the metaphorical last coke on the planet and I enjoyed it as if I was playing on the actual big screen at home (yes, at nearly 60 fps). Give it a shot. I highly recommend it!!!

The PlayStation Portal is a good solution if you want to play your PS5 games on the go. The downsides is you need a decent connection to have optimal resolution or you may lose signal. I have lost signal in my own home despite having excellent signal and connection to both devices (PS5 & PSPortal) These aren't exactly a downside, but are quite the requirements. If you have those requirements, this is a good handheld PS5 game player. The screen is bright enough, the UI is decent (now), and the controller almost feels like a real DualSense controller. Battery life is acceptable and even good if you don't play with maximum screen brightness, as well as high volume. Which leads me to say the Portal does not support Bluetooth/wireless buds (except Sony's own specific Link buds) because of latency issues. When I got this, there was no cloud streaming, and no 3D audio. Now you can cloud stream certain games you have purchased without needing your PS5 to be turned on. For a device that is asking for $200, many of the features it has now should have been included at launch. Two years later, I think it finally does what it should have done when it was first released. I think it's worth the price tag now if you want to game on the go and have a good internet source to connect the PSPortal as it's required to use.

As a user of the Sony PlayStation Portal, I've found it to be a specialized device primarily for Remote Play with the PS5. The controller customization is somewhat limited, but the haptic feedback adjustments are useful, especially when playing more intense games. The Touchpad, integrated into the touchscreen, requires a double-tap for input, which takes some getting used to. The software is straightforward, focusing on essential settings like haptic feedback strength and brightness. Its processing power is intentionally limited, aligning with its primary purpose of Remote Play. In terms of Remote Play performance, I noticed a slight delay when playing on the same internet connection as my PS5, but it's manageable. However, using a mobile hotspot while away from home introduces a noticeable half-second input lag. Overall, while the PlayStation Portal is efficient for its intended use, it feels like it has a narrow audience, specifically catering to those heavily invested in PS5 Remote Play.

This system is a great game changer when it comes to gaming on the move . Even when it comes to keeping my grandson entertained it’s a winner.

I have two portals and enjoy the versatility to share space with my wife and kids. As a gamer with arthritis thanks to previous heavy labor jobs, the light weight of this device makes it very comfortable to use for long periods compaired to heavier standalone devices like a switch or steam deck. I give for 4 stars for ease of use because some users may need basic network setup skills to get eveything out of the portal. The speed of the network helps, but doesnt matter much. Users in a close community like an apartment or a condo might experience interference with other neighbors wifi, ruining the experience. A solution for this is to use an app like "wifi analyzer" to see if your wifi channel is shared with others and switching the router to an open channel. If the router automatically picks the channel a monthly reboot can help it select an open channel ensuring the best experience for the Portal and other devices on the network.

As the owner of the original white one, even though I had problems with the first generation before the Magnificent updates, it's gone through I really love the device after selling the black one. I owned what made me purchase it again the fact that they released a new update that now allows you to play all your PlayStation 5 pro Although you do need a proper connection to make the streaming possible and for it to work properly With all the familiar dual sense controls split in half by a screen Which in my opinion should have been an OLED display, but it's not though. The LCD gets the job done and still delivers. Do I recommend the device? Obviously I do As it offers you the ability to play all your PlayStation 5 games Without the need of your console through streaming if you still haven't decide to own one go for it. You will love it as much as I do and it's a wonderful device in addition to the PlayStation 5, especially the midnight Black Edition one

For travelers, this system FINALLY makes sense. When first released it just meant you could be in a room your system wasn't to play while others were maybe using the TV or the like. Now for those PS users for the upgraded PS membership you can cloud play certain games anywhere you have wifi. Not all games you own on cloud are yet available but many great ones are. Be advised despite what the store employee told me, you can not pull a game down onto the machine to use in airplane mode or the like. It's wifi cloud play only. With a good connection the games play smoothly. The screen resolution can be a little dark even with the brightness max'ed out. Also you might need to check with a YouTube video to learn the connection steps when trying to get on a hotel or airline wifi to play. If a website is needed to 'activate' a wifi connection there are added steps.

As a companion to your PS5, it's fantastic for those who like to game away from their couch. Combine it with Playstation Plus Premium, and you have a fully handheld game machine that can cloud stream 100s of games instantly. I was skeptical, but as long as you have a strong connection to whatever wifi you're on (speed isn't a huge factor), it works pretty flawlessly, making this a budget standalone handheld gaming console that can give you instant access to Playstation exclusives. PROS: DualSense features built in Simple, Intuitive software Pick-up and Play Extremely comfortable, fantastic ergonomics PS Plus Premium unlocks huge capabilities CONS -Have had 1 instance where it lost connection to my PS5 but it seemed like a fluke. No issues since -need ps plus premium (160/year) to get the most out of this OVERALL: If you're a gaming enthusiast and love the PS library/ecosystem, this is a no brainer.
