Sony’s PlayStation Portal is Epic!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony PlayStation Portal is an amazing piece of tech with so many use cases. With average internet service, I’ve had zero issues. The screen is vibrant and bigger than you’re expecting. All of the Dual Sense features are here. The controls are responsive and precise. This is a high end product. Play your games on the go, on the couch, or in bed. If you’re hesitant, don’t be. It’s time to pull the trigger. You’ll be happy that you picked up the PlayStation Portal.

3rd time’s a charm
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Third Portal, bit of a buyer’s remorse with the previous two, but kept coming to it. This time seems it’ll stick and I can’t get enough. Beware though, PS5 wifi chips are not great especially the original models. So expect to deal with quite a bit of choppiness. But there are way to fix this and it’s not the Portal’s fault. Bonus plus if you’re a PS subscriber you get to stream games directly w/out needing to connect to the PS5 itself.

Inexpensive Masterpiece
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With the new 4.0 update, this device is a game changer for anyone interested in the PlayStation. Being able to cloud stream games, with my PS5 packed up for a move was heaven sent. No PS5 needed. You cannot download games natively to this device, but with the proper internet connection, playing on the Portal feels almost identical to playing natuve. The dualsense haptics and triggers feel better than any other controller I've ever used, but they should have made the thumbsticks bigger. The screen looks very good to say it is not OLED screen and the sound is decent, but no mind blowing. I would not recommend this device for people that have only marginal internet connection, that wants to play without internet connection, or wants to watch netflix or youtube, as Sony has locked this thing down to just their ecosystem. But for what it, it does an exceptional job with no other device quite like it.

Pretty cool
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got the matte black version of this a few days ago.. Been wanting this for a while now and finally got it. I have to say im a little bit disappointed. Dont get me wrong, this thing is beautifully designed and the graphics on it looks pretty awesome. But what kills it is the lags.. i have a 300mbps internet connection (now it could be my wifi acting up), but even with just my PlayStation portsl connected, i was having some issues this morning. i.e. kept losing internet connection, also was lagging a lot. Even in single play games/game modes like fc24 and RDR2. I did, however play diably 4 online last night and it ran smoothly.. but then again theres that occasional lags.

Total Game Changer If You're A Gaming Parent
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When Sony first revealed this handheld device, it was not appealing to me at all, but once I started to hear good reviews about it, I was persuaded to see for myself. Took some time, but eventually, I was able to get my hands on this elusive gaming device (I refuse to get ripped off by scalpers). The set-up was pretty straightforward, all you need is your PS5 Console and a strong sustainable WiFi connection (preferably the same network connected to your console). So, my PS5 console is hooked up in my living room, where 80% of the time it's being occupied by my wife and kids, and when you add in 50+hr work weeks, I rarely get the opportunity or have the energy to sit down and enjoy a proper game session. But, now that I have the PlayStation Portal, I'm able to game at my leisure, in the comfort and solitude of my own bedroom. Couple things to be aware of, if you're a traditional gamer like myself, who likes to buy physical disc games, whatever game you wish to play on the Portal, that physical disc has to be in your PS5 console in order to work. Also, if you wish to play on your Portal a good distance away from your PS5 console (car, work, etc.), unless you have a strong WiFi/Hot Spot connection, the Portal will have difficulties with streaming your game. Overall, the PlayStation Portal is a remarkable device, that has completely blown me away, and I can't thank Sony enough, for creating an outlet for gaming parents.

Cool device, frees up the tv while playing a game
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing had me confused at first; why would I need something like this? Then I read about other people playing games on it while leaving the tv free for other people and idea seemed great. I had to wait awhile to get one but it serves that exact purpose for me. My PS5 is literally in my room but I like to listen to familiar media like tv shows while I game so I play on the Portal while listening to tv shows in the background. The Portal is perfect 99% of the time; once in a while it’ll take a slight pause but it’s never ruined my gameplay. I’ve been playing Uncharted: Lost Legacy and that game has run smoothly every time I play with the slightest little pause once in a while but it hasn’t ruined my enjoyment of the game. My only complaint of the device is with Best Buy specifically; I ordered online for in store pickup and my box was extremely dented; thankfully the Portal itself wasn’t damaged but any store associate should’ve known that kind of packaging shouldn’t have been given to a customer, it just looks bad on the company. I’ve included pictures so people can see what I’m talking about. Like I said, the device is great, Best Buy associates need to put more care into how packages are handled.

Better Than Expected
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This system is much better than I had read about. The screen is large and has beautiful color and contrast! When I go back to play my Asus ROG Ally, the screen seems so much "smaller". I do have an issue with internet connection cutting out when I first start a game, then it goes way and plays flawlessly.

Meh
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The concept behind this device is truly remarkable, offering an impressive display and a tactile user experience that is second to none. However, its functionality falls short due to a critical limitation: the inability to play the PlayStation Portal. This flaw is akin to owning a Lamborghini devoid of an engine — visually striking, yet fundamentally lacking in purpose. Additionally, the device's Wi-Fi capabilities are subpar. Despite having a high-speed internet connection at home, I experienced significant lag and poor image quality, rendering the experience frustrating. Regrettably, I had to return the device after just an hour of use due to these issues. It's a fantastic concept with immense potential, and I sincerely hope future iterations will include enhanced features like Wi-Fi 6 to fully realize its promise.

Surprised By How Much I Use It
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Definitely recommend, especially if you share the TV with family or if you travel. Playing in bed has also become a thing. The battery life is good and the quality is nice also. I think it’s a great addition and the price point is perfect.

Very nice and unique controller
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal is the best controller for the PS5 if you’re on the go. In my experience it’s best used with your phone’s mobile hotspot and secondary on guest wifi. It is NOT a handheld console. It is a Controller with a screen. If you have a PlayStation 5 and your library is in it then this device may be for you. It is a streamlined option if you don’t own a tablet to use the PS Remote Play App with. If you already own a Steam Deck or iPad or a similar tablet then the Portal isn’t likely for you.

Perfect for the family household
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation Portal has been a game-changer for me. It works flawlessly, provided you have a solid WiFi connection. It's ideal for navigating the chaos of my household when the TV is occupied, and gaming in bed is now a breeze. The device has a premium feel, and the controller mirrors the excellence of the PS5. Highly recommended for its versatility and performance.
