Upon searching the internet, I learned the PS5 should not be placed vertically due to the liquid cooling in the actual system. So it is not really necessary unless you have a space issue.

System does not breathe properly when used

With it on I noticed the system would sometimes turn the fan on to cool it down, and without it, the fan rarely kicks on high if ever at all. To me that suggests the little bit of ventilation it blocks on the bottom when standing vertically has a big impact on how well it runs.
