Better than my ipod!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm going on a long trip and want to bring music with me, however it's always been a difficult process to transfer music from my windows media player to my ipods (which I have two). So after looking at many different mp3 players/reviews I decided to get the Sony mp3, and I am SO GLAD I purchased this player!!! I am "not" tech savvy (my son set it up for me), but once that was done and he showed me what to do, it's now a piece of cake transferring music from my windows media player to the Sony mp3. The sound is GREAT (better than my ipods), as well as the ear piece fits much better and is a lot more comfortable. The ONLY negative thing I don't like is they should have a separate On/Off switch. It gets confusing with the long press and hold to pause/shut off...... That aside I HIGHLY recommend this Sony mp3 player!

Decent Product, Iffy Longevity
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this MP3 player (8-gig model) after having two previous cheaper MP3 players fail on me after very limited use. Speaking generally, the construction on this particular model is considerably better than those other players (a Sandisk and an "unknown" brand). However, after about six months of use, sound no longer plays to my right headphone. Yes - I've tried many different headphones, and I've used my headphones in other devices with success, so I know that isn't the issue. I've also tried to rectify the problem with the unit (disassembly and cleaning), but to no avail. It appears the sound output mechanism is either defective or worn out. Oddly enough, if I don't keep the headphones plugged in all the way, I can eek out minimal audio to the right side, but as soon as I "click" the headphones in all the way, any sound to the right side goes dead. Regardless, after fairly light use over a six-month period, this shouldn't be a problem. My options are now to spend $30+ and get it replaced via Sony, or simply buy a new unit. At this point I've most certainly learned my lesson and will purchase extended warranties on all MP3 players I buy above $20. I'd point the finger at myself based on this bad run, but I really don't know what I'd be doing to cause these problems (all of which are entirely different in nature). I have my player packaged safely and don't throw it around or mistreat it. That all said, I honestly think the MP3 player itself is quite decent. As I mentioned, the construction is sturdy, the buttons don't feel cheap, and there are plenty of options to go around, including a more fine-tuned equalizer. The sound quality is no worse than average to above. Pictures look clear; I never used the video function. My only real gripe is durability, and while it feels sturdy and like it could easily handle a drop or two, perhaps the primary electronics aren't up to par. More likely than not, I was simply on the receiving end of a poor model. As I've owned many different Sony products over the years and almost never have had a problem, it seems only fair to give them the benefit of the doubt in this case. Assuming that was the only error, I'd actually recommend this MP3 player above others as less likely to have issues. There's really nothing I would gripe about outside of my faulty sound unit. If you're looking into an MP3 player, you can feel confident that this is up to Sony quality standards (for the most part). It is lightweight yet rigid, and in normal circumstances you'll feel good about this purchase. Although the price of entry is higher than most other options, I definitely would think it is worth it in the long run - just protect yourself with a warranty through either Best Buy or Sony because apparently, MP3 players aren't made like they used to be. I would be curious to know if anyone else had a similar problem as mine (i.e. is this an isolated incident or a more widespread concern). Hopefully my issue is merely a one-off and doesn't happen to others.

Good player but......
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The player was everything the description said it would be with one exception. The specification page says it has a memory card slot. No where on this player is there such a slot. I put about half my cd library on it and I still have a lot more to go and will not make it with the available memory. The memory card was one of the reasons I bought this besides the great price. Not going to take it back but you someone needs to address your website and correct that because it is very misleading.

Sound is Great! Ease of Operation is a plus.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far so good. I love this little device. One thing that concerns me is whether it is Itunes compatible. The specs say that it is, but I haven't tried to sync it with my Itunes on my PC yet. Crossing my fingers here. It is compatible with WMP. Again the sound is fantastic. I would recommend this on that alone.

Sonys not good choice for audio books
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After using Sony MP3 players for many years to listen to audio books, I purchased a new one for my son at Christmas to replace the one he had as the volume had gone out. When we tried to download an audio book with Overdrive from our library for the new Sony, we received the error that it did not have a device certificate. After much research I have found that Sonys from 2012 on will not play WMA files with Digital RIghts Management. Since many of the library books are that way now it is pretty useless. I feel this is deception on Sony's part.

Overall good product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall good product, like a lot of reviews I had a hard time trying to turn it off until I figured out that if you hit the pause while listening to music that will put the PWR/HOLD button in the on/off switch mode only (instead of dual pwr/hold), now the device can be turned off very easy with just the pressing of a single button.

Unnecessary Upgrades
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my 3rd Walkman mp3 player. My previous one lasted a long time so I got the newest version. I don't like any of the changes they made since the last version (NWZ-E344): -Removed side lock switch and integrated this with the power button; now you can't turn it off but instead lock it and it will shut off after a period of inactivity -Locking/unlocking also takes a long held button press so switching back and forth from lock to unlock many times is a pain. With the previous version, I could find the side switch with it still in my pocket and go back and forth easily. -Removed side volume buttons and integrated volume control with up and down arrows; you can't change volume unless the now playing screen is showing. And just like with the lock switch I used to be able to find the volume button with it still in my pocket but that's not the case anymore. -Made the section showing song detail smaller to make the album art picture bigger. But the screen doesn't have good picture quality so I'm not sure why album art got priority. If you want to know the artist or album you'll have to wait for it to scroll through. I'm a big fan of keeping it cheap and simple which drew me to the Walkman brand. But if I would have known about this design before I ordered it I would have paid a little more for something different.

They Really Messed it up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit now DOES NOT have a physical hold switch, the hold is part of the software. The hold function CONSTANTLY comes on.. when you press pause and they press play a few moments later it's on hold! It does this constantly, you have to constantly turn off the hold and then it comes on again. VERY poor user experience. Pls release an update to fix this problem! Unit is un-useable b/c of this. Also tried contacting "customer service" at sony and "trish" was rude and unhelpful and tried to direct me to the sony store (to buy another piece of junk no doubt). Product returned for a sandisk.

Lousy Walkman
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned previous walkman mp3 players and they were alot better than this one. The battery life is very poor compaired to previous versions, and the buttons/ user interface are poor on this model.
