||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Simply one of the best consoles ever made. Has the necessary performance to easily handle any game you wish to play. Impressive design with backwards compatibility. It is however incredibly large and somewhat awkward to position, depending on your setup. The controller is easily the best on the current console market, with many innovative features. The storage capacity could be much better, sitting at 700 gb, but is still an improvement over the PS4's 500 gb hard drive.

Outstanding
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The only reason I got a PlayStation years ago was when I got the PS3 so my son and I could play Little Big Planet. I was around then when Sony had the big hack, and offered games as recompense for the security breach, and I grabbed Infamous 1. I loved it, and when Infamous 2 came out, I got that and loved that. The only reason I even got the PS4 was for Infamous Second Son. I do all my main gaming on my Xbox. But I knew that eventually Sucker Punch would put out another Infamous game, so I snagged a PS5. I wanted to see how things like Ghosts of Tsushima looked anyway, and the new Sackboy game looked intriguing. I'm not a fan of the white. Not at all. Gaudy and ugly on my entertainment center, where everything else is black. I found a place to buy new plastic panels though in black, and they are already on order. It's a behemoth as well, ridiculously large. I thought my Xbox Series X was oversized, until I got this, now that seems downright dainty. But it's a HUGE step forward compared to the PS4 in every respect. Speed - I can't even describe how much faster things load comparatively. The controller. Working through the little Astro's playbox thing, I really learned to love the PS controller here. The adaptive triggers are a thing of beauty, making it a whole lot more immersive when they can have different resistance depending on what you're doing in a game. Graphics - well, just like the XB Series X, they're stunning. Not much out there I'm interested in yet, but the updates they did for Infamous Second Son and Ghosts of Tsushima make the games a LOT smoother and visually appealing than they were on the PS4. It runs pretty silent, even after some extended gaming sessions I'm not hearing fans cranking up. Definitely something to get if you are a gamer.

Great Console
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great console that is backwards compatible with ps4 games, it was nice being able to play old games with updated fps that made the experience better. The controller is the best feeling controller playstation has made with cool features. Only cons are there needs to be more ps5 titles and it is a huge console, but these are all minor nitpicks. Overall if you liked the previous consoles you will like this one too.

PS5 has some issues, but it is AMAZING nonetheless
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this system, but man did they release it with some flaws in the software (or maybe even hardware). I had a problem with the extended hard drive about a week ago where my PS5 did some weird stuff and started trying to fix the extended hard drive that was connected to it. Then was another incident where I was playing Rocket League, and my audio started going off and on for some reason. This couldn't have been my headset because it worked fine on my PC, and when I plugged it back into the controller, it was muted. Eventually, I concluded the problem to be coming from the PS5 controller. I put the problems I faced at the end of the review (if you're interested) because even though this console has its issues, it is an AMAZING consoles. These are the only issues I've had with it in the past month I've been playing it (and I've been playing a lot). I just wished they didn't have so many issues on release, and I'm hoping its not hardware issues. Despite all the technical difficulties I've been facing, the gaming experience of the PS5 is PHENOMENAL. It's a Big Bertha; the thing is huge. Eyeballing it, it looks a little less than 1.5 ft tall, and I love the futuristic look to it. Turning on the system, it loads up the OS, and games really quick. The new UI definitely feels a lot better, but there needs to be improvements on the PS store. It looks cleaner and more minimal, but at the cost of the UX. They also took out the options to make folders to organize your games. That needs to come back. Also, the size of the SSD is only 825GB (~670GB of available storage). Kind of disappointing that it wasn't a 1TB drive, but they're offering SSD with read/write speeds that are faster than what's on the market now so they had to make some cuts somewhere to keep the cost low. As for the speed of the system, I played Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin (PS4 game) on it, and it actually loads the game (and levels) up faster than my PS4. I don't have time to do a comparison so I can provide any stats, but it definitely does load it faster. I played Ghost of Tsushima on it, and it definitely feels much smoother with the 60fps performance mode. I'm not sure whether or not they have that on PS4 Pro too, but I'm coming from the base PS4, so it definitely was not as smooth. I haven't played any PS5 games besides Astro's Playroom yet because I don't want to brick my system. I've been hearing a lot of issues with Spider-Man Miles Morales (which I have) so I don't want to risk it. Astro's Playroom demonstrated what the capabilities of the PS5 though. My favorite things about the PS5 are the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. I was playing Astro's Playroom the other day, and each surface you walk on has its haptic feedback; the grass has this flat, mushy tap; metal has a sharp tap (like hitting something with an iron nail). You can feel each little step on the right, left, or both sides of the controller depending on Astro's movements. You don't just feel the steps of Astro, but also the ambient factors that are affecting him (like wind, etc). It's not your basic vibrations like on the DualShock 4, either. It's a great review. I can only imagine how good the haptics feel on Spider-Man, and am excited to experience it. As for 3D audio, it definitely sounds much better. I can hear sounds from the direction they're coming from. The improvement I can hear is that some sounds don't sound like they're coming from a singular direction anymore. It sounds like it's coming from a general direction; its traveling like a wave (as it does in real life). I also have a not so great headset too, so may not be getting the full experience of the 3D audio. I loved that Sony focused on immersion this generation. The speedy SSD and improved graphics are just a plus; for me the highlights of this generation are the new haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and 3D audio to deliver an immersive experience. PS5 ISSUES I'VE EXPERIENCED: EXTENDED HDD ISSUE: I was playing Astro's Playroom (PS5 game) and switched to Brawlhalla (PS4 game on my external HDD) to play with the boys. Then the screen goes black and my PS5 lights shut off. I tried pressing the power button to turn it back on, but it actually seemed like it was still on so I had to hold the power button to do an emergency shutdown. Turned it back on, and I'm hit with a screen saying that the external HDD was removed unsafely despite it not being removed. It said the external HDD was corrupted and needed to repair it. After it finished repairing the screen goes black, and it never turns back on; the PS5 is still on because I could still see the blue lights that indicate its on. After waiting a while, the situation doesn't change so I do another emergency shutdown (hold the power button), and turn it back on. Everything is good and the system is like normal again. CONTROLLER ISSUE: I was playing Rocket League with my friends, and suddenly my audio cuts off (and mic too because my friends said they couldn't hear me). Also for context, there is a button on the PS5 controller to mute your mic if you press it; if you hold it down it will cut your audio off so you can't hear anything. I have been using this button from time to time during the night to mute myself. The weird thing is that when it cut off, I thought simply holding it would do the trick; I thought I cut the audio off, myself, by holding the mute button. It didn't work so I thought it was maybe my headset. Unplugged and plugged it in; didn't work. Plugged it into my PC; it worked. It had to be some problem with the PS5 or the controller. I put my headset back into the controller, and went to the PS menu, pressed X or O and somehow the audio and mic came back on. Then it went off. I tried to recreate the conditions for it to come back on again, and got it a couple times, but I was pressing random buttons so I don't know the exact sequence. I ended up just resetting the PS5 and everything was okay. The bug seemed to have linked the mute/audio cut off button to some different button on the controller. Also when the audio cut off happened, or when it came back on, there was always initially a noise you would hear like when someone first plugs in their 3.5mm into their controller; a little beatbox noise. It was a weird bug.

The PS5 is worth it.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I preordered this back in September and eagerly awaited it's release. Best Buy came through as they usually do and had it pickup on release night. The console itself is awesome. I picked up Demons Souls and Spider-Man Mile Morales. Both are fantastic and are some of the prettiest games I have ever played. That's all well and good but it's the load times that really shine on this. Games load near instantly. The UI has a changed a lil some for the better some for the worse. I'm sure they'll iron all this out in time. One thing omitted for the time being is being able to upgrade the storage at the time of this review. Hopefully they'll get that sorted out quickly as it will pose a problem once more games start to release. The Controller is awesome. The haptic feedback they've been talking about actually works. Very hard to describe but it is very very cool. It's also a lil larger making it more comfortable to hold. It plays PS4 games better. Haven't played a lot of PS4 games but the few I tried were improved running better and loading faster when installed to the internal SSD. Although I have since moved them to an external nvme SSD I had laying around the house. Overall awesome console and look forward to playing the next generation of game on it.

The Next Generation Console We've Been Waiting For
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation 5 takes many steps forward from its predecessor the PlayStation 4. The leap between the PS4 and PS5 is much more substantial than the PS3 to PS4 or even the PS4 to the PS4 Pro. Games run beautifully on the next-gen hardware and rarely do I ever experience any crashes or performance issues while gaming even after owning the console for over a month. By far the best feature of the PS5 is the new DualSense controller, which at first I was not a huge fan of. Initially I hated the design of the controller and I disliked how big and bulkier the controller was compared to the DualShock 4, however after holding the controller in my hands and using it daily sense launch I can say this is the best controller I've ever had the privilege of using in my life. The haptics in the controller are great and it's so responsive especially when playing FPS games where the adaptive triggers actually simulate the feeling of pulling the trigger of a gun. The controller feels a lot more premium in the hands and it's very hard to go back to the DualShock 4 after using the DualSense for so long. The controller makes the DualShock 4 feel and play like a cheap knock off. The built-in microphone the controller features is an excellent touch and it's very convenient for gamers who can't afford to by a good headset with a mic. My only gripe with the controller is that when in party or game chats all the voice audio comes through the controller speaker unless you have headphones plugged into the controller. You can always turn off the mic on the controller and essential mute yourself which is another plus. Despite the console being huge compared to other consoles as well as its processors, I didn't have much trouble finding a place to put my PS5 in my entertainment center. Although for others, this may be difficult due to the size of the console. I recommend putting your PS5 vertically if you don't have much space for your new PlayStation 5 console. Gaming on the PS5 and using the console for basic functions is very smooth. The UI is very snappy and in a lot of ways an upgrade from the PS4's user interface. They've separated your games and media into different tabs so they're much more easier to find and access. Games look and play especially great in 4K at 60 frames per second and many of the games that take advantage of the PS5 or are exclusive to the PS5 are a blast to play. The PS5 is also incredibly silent, unless running an intensive game or playing a disk-based game, the PS5 makes hardly any noise. My particular PS5 does suffer from coil whine but it's only noticeable when I'm up close to the console or I'm playing an intensive game such as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War or Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. No longer will you hear the dreaded jet engine fans that are notorious with the PS4 and PS4 Pro. Despite not being backwards compatible with PS1-PS3 titles, backwards compatibility is great on the PS5 when it comes to PS4 games. Depending on the game, not only does the PS5 boost performance by increasing the framerate but also the resolution as well. Majority of the PS4's library is compatible on the PS5 so you can play all your games as much as you like without having to worry about re-purchasing them or hoping that they'll get ported over or remade to be compatible on PS5. Load times are improved drastically even when playing games off of extended storage drives. What would take minutes now just takes a few seconds. Loading and rendering games is the fastest it's been in a long time. One of the major downsides to the PS5 however is storage. Despite being advertise as 825 gigabytes of SSD storage, you can't utilize all that storage as some of that 825 gigs is reserved for the system software. Depending on how you use your console you will be left at around 664-667 gigabytes worth of usable storage and with games getting increasingly larger that usable space will fill up very quickly. In the month since launch, I used up most of my storage on the PS5 and currently only have 29 gigs worth of storage left on my PS5. You can use extended storage drives to storage games but only for PS4 games as PS5 games can only be installed on the PS5 itself since those games are specifically designed for the custom SSD. Sony will later update the console to allow you to expand your storage on the PS5 but as of right now (December 2020) currently there are no SSDs that are approved by Sony to work with the PS5. The PS5 currently does not support 1440p resolution or quick resume. To switch between games you will have to close out of the game or go to the home screen on the PS5 and select another game to play it. All in all the PS5 is worth the price and is a true generation jump. The experience you get from playing these games and using the console makes you forget about the PS4 in a good way. Gaming has come a long way and I can't wait to see what's on the horizon this console generation.

Great console but with some issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PS5 is a great product, and it's technical innovations really demonstrate how far technology and gaming has come. The PS5 is amazingly fast, and the time to boot up and load games is so short, I find it very difficult to return to older gaming consoles. I do wish that PS4 compatibility was refined and that ALL PS4 games were available to play on the PS5. I wish that more storage was provided than the 825gb. To even run the PS5, you're left with 667.2gb of USABLE storage, which is barely enough to play next-gen PS5 games. However, I do appreciate Sony's efforts to make the PS5 more customizable and easier to modify. You're able to add on to the system storage by purchasing internal or external SSD's. Sony now offers new console covers/plates and controllers in new colors. The installation of the internal SSD and changing the covers/plates is very easy and straightforward. The new DualSense PS5 controllers are amazing, and the haptics and the new addition of adaptive triggers are great. However, I do wish that the upcoming PS5 games developers utilize the awesome capabilities of the new controllers. Overall, I'd say that the PS5 is definitely worth the money. I recommend purchasing an internal or external SSD, an extra controller, and a dust cover for the PS5.

Worthy and needed update to PS4
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The games aren't here yet, but a SSD external drive makes PS4 games shine, and PS5 game upgrades improve frame rates and visuals. Warzone runs at 60 fps and looks fantastic and runs so much smoother than the ps4 Pro. It is pretty darn quiet. Hiccups in games seem to be gone. Load times are normally a lot faster, and in general, gaming is more enjoyable. An optical out would have been nice, but there are many ways to get around it. A worthy upgrade after a long PS4 lifespan. It's worth the upgrade, even if the internal storage is limited and the NVME drive spot is not operational yet. It is big, but the white and black look like a special edition. The controller feels like an upgrade, and is a little bigger.
