Next Gen Power
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a PlayStation customer since 1995 so I'm going to nitpick and generalize some features. There is a lot going on with this product so I will try and go over some things I found generally interesting, bizarre, and annoying in the short time I've had with this system. Price: A little on the pricey side I will admit. The disc version is running a little on the high side which brings back fond memories of buying a ps3. Ironically, it's cheaper than what the ps3 was originally, but more expensive than a ps4. Still, totally worth it. Mobile Integration: The phone app integration is better here than with the ps4. I can download a game and with the PlayStation App, be notified when the download is finished and the game is ready to be played! I'm sure there are a few more tricks to uncover, but it all seems very well put together compared to the previous iteration. Games: Opinion here - there are a lack of games for this system at the moment. Yes, there are good games out there for it (Ratchet & Clank, Returnal). Yet, those games don't appeal to me. They may appeal to you though! I'm waiting on a few AAA titles to release in the fall of '21. Unfortunately, disc versions appear to be in the $69 range at the time of this writing which is pretty darn expensive compared to previous console generations. Not enough to knock the system down a star. This will all get better with time. Entertainment: If you're looking for the basics (Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, etc...), they can all be found here. My download for Netflix appears to be corrupted as it won't open the app. I imagine a delete and re-download of the app will fix this issue. Controller: The controller feels a bit more obtuse to me than previous versions (see an xbox controller), BUT the haptic feedback is OUT OF THIS WORLD! This is hands down, my opinion here, the best PlayStation controller out there. Astro's Playroom, a free game that comes with the system, is essentially a demo for the potential this controller has from a haptic feedback perspective. Battery life appears to be decent, but doesn't seem overly better from the DualShock 4 controller. Pros: -Controller -Integration with mobile is neat -High quality feel from the controller to the system itself -Console design and shape. Beautiful design, but there are some other drawbacks relating to this (see cons below). The white, blue, orange colors seem to sit better on a white system -Menu music is so relaxing, it will put you to sleep.. -Power saving options make me feel like I'm not going to pollute the Earth and feel better about myself Cons: -A little pricey (still cheaper than a gaming pc) -Short HDMI cable. Frustrating if you mount your TV and need a few more feet to connect. -Minimal amount of games available at the time of this writing (but will definitely improve with time) -Can be a little noisy, but not to a ridiculous level. I can definitely hear the fans when everything is quiet. -The physical size, this system is incredibly big and will be fighting for space in your living room. Not sure what Sony was thinking. All-in-all, I don't regret this purchase at all. If this is your first console, get it. You may get buyers remorse, but these systems last a long time If you're looking to upgrade from a PS4, my opinion again, I'd wait until there is a game on PS5 that you cannot live without before getting this system. Last, but not least, disc tray goes on the bottom if you're laying the system down horizontal!

The BEST Next Gen Experience
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me preface this by saying how coincidental and relieved I was when attempting to buy this heap of alien technology from Best Buy. Target's system provided little to no organization when buying from there, but lo and behold just 5 hours later I was checking this baby out right here. Just after six months since I first ordered the disc version, it brought light to some things. First and foremost, the fit, or rather size, of the console within my room is quite cozy, but I do admit that the size can be overwhelming and overwhelmingly attention hungry. This sizeable console makes it up with its gorgeous lighting when you turn it on; however, some people might say that the two tone white and black colorway turns heads the other way, but I got used to it along with the controller. Speaking of the controller, IT WILL GET DIRTY. And if you have sweaty palms and dusty rooms, better to get a custom painted DualSense or wait for Sony to launch new colors. (A red and black DualSense are ready to pre-order now and will launch on June 11 btw.) I had to use some other means to clean it, but that's just how it is with this two tone controller. Other than that, the DualSense IS TRULY next-gen. If you have the time, definitely try out Astro's Playroom. The free, pre-downloaded game really showcases the DualSense's new adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. It immerses me within the game, and I truly hope that first party developers working for Sony utilize this amazing technology, unlike the touchpad. I never thought that having a mute button would be helpful, but I use it pretty often. Need to take care of business while waiting in the lobby? Mute button. Want to make yourself hot chocolate while your friends rant? Mute button. It's so much better than how I used to do it which was unplugging the cord. The only thing that I don't use often are the trophy cards when I press the PS button once on the controller. Personally, I played a lot of PS4 games on the PS5, so this might change when I get to play a lot more PS5 games. Right now IT'S NOT A HOME RUN. The only "card" I use is the game chat / party chat card, and it's kinda hard to get used to it because I immediately just press down whenever I press the PS button once. I honestly could see myself using the trophy cards in the future instead of looking up trophy guides on YouTube, but that's far into the PS5 generation's life. These points were the only few aspects that I noticed and took time to think about, and these next few made the experience a little better or worse. THE SSD IS FAST AS FREAK. I appreciated it loading faster when I died 20 times in a row. 4K 60 FPS IS STUNNINGLY CONSISTENT through my untrained eyes. NO BLUETOOTH HEADPHONE SUPPORT. Uuuuuh Sony is it possible to do it? I know output lag can ruin the experience, but do I really need a bluetooth USB stick connected to the console? NO PS5 THEMES. I know it will probably take an update to clear that up, but I loved it on the PS4. AUTOMATIC UPDATES IN REST MODE. Thank you Sony for making it convenient. CUSTOMIZABLE SETTINGS. From presetting my difficulty when I start up new games, changing the aspects in third person mode, to disabling game chat audio when joining a multiplayer game with a bunch of randoms. PS APP. On my phone I could delete games and start up one. Noice. PARTIES / VOICE CHANNELS. I like how they revamped the party system on the PS5. It's very easy to navigate around, though the learning curve might be a little tight.

Great next gen console rough start
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was unfortunately one of the few that had a defective ps5 out of the box. Which experienced hard crashes power loss loud sounds coming from the disc drive and multiple freezes. If you have any of those issues call Sony go through the trouble shooting process and get a new one. Don’t take it to Best Buy since currently supply is low you should receive a refurbished and or new one in two weeks. There are also some bugs with the rest mode hard crashing and or bricking consoles which I haven’t experienced thank God. Expanded storage with nvme ssds is still not quite ready yet when it is will be excellent way to upgrade storage since you internal memory will fill up quickly. With that being said it is truly an amazing console. Super quick load times my old ps4 games besides visual upgrades in graphics have excellent fps improvement like ghost of Tsushima going from 30 fps to 60 fps. It makes cyberpunk 2077 actually playable at 60 fps. It is much larger than ps4, ps4 pro, Xbox one and Xbox one X. The controllers new heroic feed back where certain games can change the way it feels while playing it’s hard to explain but is very cool especially when playing FIrst person shooters and platform games. I could go on and on.If you can get one you won’t regret it.

Best next gen console if you can find it near MSRP
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not sure if anyone reads these reviews.. basically if you can get your hands on one at close to retail, you probably already have. I haven't played much console games in many years, but this one got me excited to get back into console gaming. And I must say I have been enjoying it. First of all the interface is very smooth and well done, with a few minor exceptions. The controller button layout can take a little getting used to (the "pause"/start button is slightly awkwardly placed, too low it feels like, I kept pushing the touch area above the button instead). But other than that minor detail it's a fantastic controller, good with my fairly large (and old, arthritic) hands. The console itself is rather awkwardly shaped and surprisingly VERY tall if you set it up in upright position. So much so that it wouldn't fit on my current shelf setup below my TV, so I had to lay it flat for now. The usb charging cord for the controller is barely adequate in length, like 5' long maybe.. Wish it were at least a foot longer, as the controller seems to get low battery faster than I'd like. Seems like one long session of Formula 1 and my controller is already telling me it's low, in only one sitting. Again wish the battery had just maybe 20% more capacity. The console itself with the 860GB ssd runs great, super fast load times are definitely a game changer. I only wish they'd made the storage a round number of 1TB, to please my OCD if nothing else. Final point is that I'm fairly disappointed in the amount of available games, considering it's been out for nearly a year already. I guess they can't sell enough of them so they're still focused on games for PS4 etc which more people have. Having to wait all the way until March 2022 for Gran Turismo seems too long. But if they can make it really great in that time rather than rushing it, it will be worth it. Final point, I'm still playing this on my excellent old Panasonic high end plasma tv.. but I'm looking forward to upgrading to a 4k OLED mainly to get 120hz for PS5 gaming. Hopefully Sony finally adds VRR support to the PS5 as well as their OLED tv's soon. That combination should keep me good for new consoles for another 10 years at least. Final point, considering the price of GPU's right now, the fact that the PS5 complete package is around $500 retail is amazing considering it has basically similar graphics performance to a last generation AMD RX 5700 XT. Those GPU's alone still today go for near $1000 in the aftermarket. This is an impressive package for the money, again if you are able to get one at retail or even 100 or 200 over.

Next-Gen Gaming Bliss - PlayStation 5 (PS5)
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation 5 (PS5) is a masterpiece of gaming technology and a true game-changer in the world of console gaming. I've been fortunate enough to experience it, and I can confidently give it a well-deserved 5-star rating. Here's why the PS5 is an absolute triumph: Unmatched Performance: The PS5's hardware is an absolute powerhouse. Games load incredibly fast, and the graphics are breathtakingly realistic. The smoothness of gameplay and the immersion it offers is unmatched. DualSense Controller: The DualSense controller is a revelation. The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers provide an entirely new level of sensory immersion. Feeling the tension of a bowstring or the rumble of a roaring engine in your hands adds a new dimension to gaming. Stunning Visuals: Playing games in 4K resolution with ray tracing is a visual treat. The level of detail and realism in games is astonishing, making every gaming session feel like a cinematic experience. Backward Compatibility: I love that I can still play my favorite PS4 games on the PS5, and many of them benefit from improved loading times and performance. It's a great way to continue enjoying my existing library. Exclusive Titles: Sony's lineup of exclusive games is second to none. Titles like Demon's Souls, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Returnal showcase the PS5's capabilities and offer unique and unforgettable gaming experiences. Whisper-Quiet: Despite its immense power, the PS5 is impressively quiet. It doesn't disrupt my gaming experience with loud fan noise, which is a significant improvement over previous generations. User-Friendly Interface: The user interface is clean, intuitive, and easy to navigate. Features like the Control Center, which allows for quick access to key functions, enhance the overall user experience. Future-Proof: The PS5's hardware is future-proofed for years to come, ensuring that I won't need to upgrade for a long time. This investment in gaming technology is worth every penny. In conclusion, the PlayStation 5 is not just a gaming console; it's a gaming revolution. It delivers unparalleled performance, stunning visuals, and a level of immersion that sets it apart from its predecessors and competitors. If you're a gaming enthusiast, the PS5 is a must-have addition to your gaming setup. It has truly redefined the way I experience and enjoy video games, earning every bit of its 5-star rating.

I love my PS5
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What can I say that you probably already don’t know. The system is amazing, the speed the graphics the interface, they got almost everything perfect with the ps5. The controller might be the best controller I’ve ever used. Fits perfect to my hand and is fun to use with the haptic feedback. My only complaint on the ps5 is the limited storage. I ended up getting an external hard drive so no issues on my end now but it would have been nice to have more storage available. Overall I love the ps5 and couldn’t be happier with my decision to purchase it.

As Good as Billed
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The graphics are superb, it's lightening quick, and the preloaded Astro's Playroom is a joy, but you probably already know that. The real star of the show is the fantastic controller. The haptic feedback provides a level of detail unlike anything I've ever experienced, and the adaptive triggers are downright special. I hope developers continue to take advantage of these next-level features. The only downside is the massive size, but if you can find a place to put it, it's a fantastic console and worth the wait of you haven't gotten your hands on one yet.

||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s fast, powerful and very quiet. The Dualsense controller feels great in the hand and the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers are something you need to experience for yourself. The UI is much smoother and better organized and downloading digital games and updates is so much faster. PS5 games look stunning on a 4K TV and you can even play Cold War at 120fps! It’s also backwards compatible with 99% of PS4 games and runs all of them with locked frame-rates. The PS5 is a most own and a fantastic upgrade from the PS4 and PS4 Pro.

||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the PS5 it is great. Plays PS4 games so its perfect for anyone moving from the PS3 or getting a sony for the first time. No issues for 2 years of ownership now and great games to go with it. Only big issue is that standard it only holds 1 TB of data. Yes its on an SSD compared to a PS4 but with how big games currently are it would have been nice to have a standard option of more storage.

This is Next Gen
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow. Finally a true Next-Gen experience. Compared to when the PS4 gen started, the PS5 blows that leap forward out of the water. Last gen the new consoles were not especially powerful even on day 1 of their releases, this time the PS5 is a beast of a machine. The graphics are improved, the lighting is improved, the games and UI load lightning-fast so you’re not waiting around on your phone and the DualSense controller is mind-blowing. Every game feels different and it’s crazy to think where games will progress to this generation with all the new features and capabilities. A must-buy for gamers. Oh and side not, the console is extremely quiet even when 10 hours into a grind session. Shout out Mark Cerny

Next Gen Gaming
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are able to get your hands on a PlayStation 5, you will not regret it. Coming from a base PS4, the new console is a major step up. The main thing you will notice right away is just how fast it is in comparison to the PS4. Menus pop quick, the PlayStation Store is snappy, and best of all, most games take advantage of the new SSD, allowing them to boot up within seconds and take you right into the action. No more looking at your phone for minutes on end waiting for your game to start. With its ability to display at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, games look better than ever and feel better than ever to play, particularly if you can get your hands on a 4K TV. The PS5 arguably has the best launch lineup of games available, especially when compared to past consoles and even the Xbox Series X. There's really something for everyone, from Spider-Man, to Sackboy, and even Demon's Souls. A few things to keep aware of: 1) This thing is huge, whether you lay it horizontal or prop it up vertically, 2) Storage space for the SSD is lacking, until we are able to add additional storage (which is not yet enabled), so I'd advise not filling up your SSD with every PS5/PS4 game you have (unless you have access to an external HDD for PS4 games), 3) Menus are simple but a bit cumbersome coming from the PS4 (some things are hidden, some require extra unnecessary button presses, and the layout for trophies is not great). Despite some flaws at the outset, the PlayStation 5 is more than worth the $400/$500 it costs if you are an avid gamer. The blazing fast SSD, the innovative controller, and the quality of life improvements make this system a much needed entry point into the next generation of video game consoles.

I think I'm in love
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While I'm not fond of the difficulty of obtaining a PS5, the system is pretty awesome. For what I mainly use it for, I could have gotten away with a PS4 Pro, but it definitely is an upgrade above that. The load times are way faster than my old PS4 due mostly to the hard drive read speed. The sample game that comes pre-installed, Astro's Playroom, focuses on showcasing the controller, which is the shining gem in this system for me so far. If you're just playing PS4 games, most of its features are not going to mean much to you aside from the ability to chat through the controller itself if you don't own a headset. The controller features for the PS5 games would take a whole paragraph to do them justice. The console itself is huge. It's somewhere around 5"x16", and you're going to need to leave it some breathing room as well. It's not likely to fit in the spot your old PS4 fit in. Also, the controllers charge either through USB C ports at the top(which is different than the PS4's micro USB ports), or through the bottom via a charger. I recommend buying a charger, as that top port is used for controller software updates, which is now a thing. The PS5 specs are slightly lower than the new XBox equivalent, and I have not yet tried the new XBox. That being said, the backwards compatibility of the two systems means barring a desire to play the games of the other system, you're probably better off sticking with the brand you already own, because you're likely to fall back on you're old favorites a lot. The new Spiderman: Miles Morales is pretty good, but there's just not that much variety out there yet.

True Next Gen
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow what can I say its a PS5!! I was lucky enough to get it launch day and 3 weeks in I have to say the PS5 lives up to the hype. First off the SSD is truly fast. Load times are almost eliminated and switching from one game to another takes very little time now its seamless. The UI is much improved for the PS4s. It takes a little to get used to but once that happens its superior. The UI is fast aswell thanks to the SSD The graphics and ray tracing live up to expectations. Truly amazing graphics and ray tracing makes things look better in the environment. They will only get better as developers harness more and more of the PS5s exceptional power. The controller surprised me a lot. The haptic feedback and most importantly the triggers really surprised you in a good way. By far the best controller and best playstation controller Iv ever used. Again The adaptive triggers are something to experience. Overall there is too much to sat but If you can somehow order one at the moment do not hesitate its definitely worth it. Its a True next gen console

Wonderful! Almost entirely as advertised!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The only issue I have is that the fans are nowhere near as quiet as promised. There are still moments where it sounds like a jet engine taking off. To be fair, these are usually brief, but it was a bit of a disappointment after the hype of it being gone for good. The only other issue, which I believe will be fixed in a future software update, is the widely-reported crashing issue during rest mode. I've resorted to simply turning it off every time to avoid a crash, and waiting for an update that fixes it. Otherwise, it is lightening fast. I've been playing Spiderman on it, and there is absolutely no loading time whatsoever. Returning to some older PS4 games there was still some load time involved, but it felt faster. Graphics are clear, and the user interface is easy to use. It took a bit of adjustment to find the button to turn it off as it has moved, but once I got used to the new menus it's been super easy. The duelsense controller is wonderful. It fits perfectly in my hands, and is a very nice weight. The haptic feedback makes using it joyful, and the included game Astro's Playroom does a wonderful job of introducing you to its functionality. The new system is definitely a huge improvement on the PS4, and I'm excited to play even more games going forward

The right direction
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everyone knows about the difficulty of attaining one of these consoles, so I won't focus on that. Performance related, it runs cooler, faster, and with more power than the PS4 lineup. I own a Day One PlayStation 4 and when I say to you that actually watching the load times diminish when i made the upgrade made me giggle, I'm dead serious. I laughed like a madman in my living room. my first stick of comparison was Destiny 2. great improvements there. Final Fantasy VII Remake was another that I used for persona comparison, and the PS5 upgrade transformed it. Storage admittedly seemed smaller than what was becoming the norm (825 instead of 1TB) but game files can be smaller than their last-gen counterparts so that is forgiven for now. Controllers are comfortable for my hands, and have heft without feeling too heavy. the DualSense haptics in them shine when they are used properly in a game. Overall, I love my console. It is a move in the right direction for performance and not just looks.
