Great as a stand alone device or paired with a PS4

I wasn't sure how much my family would actually use this item but it has quite a few more uses than I knew about when I bought it. You can play a ton of original PS One games, PS Vita games, and some other titles as well. It also makes a great media device if you just want something to watch movies on a spare TV. The PS4 link feature has been really nice too, allowing me to play my PS4 games from another room without the hassle of moving the PS4. My only complaint is the layout of all the connections. Everything connects through the back including the USB port that you'd use to charge a controller, making it all but impossible to put this somewhere enclosed since you always need access to the back.

The sony tv is good to stream your ps4 content on a strong network anywhere, as long as you have a good connection and a ps4 controller. Its a pretty good idea and product that allows gamers to take the fun anywhere. The only two draw backs i had with it is that you will need to have a strong Ethernet wired connection and the resolution for streaming is only 720p. The resolution issue is not major but something you might want to look at if you expecting crisp 1080p visuals. Using the ps tv on wireless connection was my main draw back simply because i could never play my content for more than 15 minutes without it disconnecting. Even with it close by it still had that same problem except i could play bit longer. The ps tv is good but make sure your connection is strong and fast and you look into the resolution if that matters to you

Streaming PS4 games to a different TV works great.

My main purpose for this unit was to stream games on our PS4 that is located upstairs (2nd floor), to a different TV located in the basement.
After a few minutes of setting everything up using our wired network, we were playing BF4, Wolfenstein, and The Order:1886 like we were in the same room as the PS4.
I would have given the PlayStation TV System 4 stars because it can only go up to 1080i. But because I got it on sale (from Best Buy) and it's a whole lot cheaper than buying a 2nd PS4. I have no problem given it 5 stars.

I use this to play in the basement when the sitting room is in use.
Very smooth play and no lag. Its a pity it does not support 1080p, therefore the 4 star.

You need an external HD for the vita games, so it's not really a standalone console out of the box. You can use it to stream PS now games, but I guess if you don't have PS now then eh. As far as PS4 streaming goes, it's alright and I'll probably use it once in awhile to play on another TV, but unless that feature is useful to you, I wouldn't get it.

I had a Playstation Vita once, but was forced by circumstance to let it go. As much as I enjoyed the vita, I found myself wishing I could play its games on my TV screen while at home. Now, with the Playstation TV, I can do just that. In addition, so many of the digital playstation Vita games I already owned became available for me to play again, as well as my digital playstation 1 and 2 purchases that have been racking up over the years.
I consider this product to be well worth the money. My only complaint is that it doesn't seem to work with my HDMI hub switcher, forcing me to plug it into its own individual HDMI port on the TV. Still, that is a small price to pay for the excellent functionality of the device.

easy to setup although it had difficulty finding my ps4 at first. after a couple of tries, it worked. definitely more geared to the social gamer with media friends. the playstation now beta works , but kind of bummed about the rentals. anything I would want to play, would cost a fortune to get through. wish sony would catalogue the ps3 games you already had, and allow streaming of any of them for one flat low monthly fee.
the interface with the ps4 works well. I was able to play Injustice and controls had minimal lag. occasionally, aliasing noted when playing Assassins Creed:Black Flag. seemed to improve the longer I played.
Overall, is a decent peripheral if you have the extra cash, and allows me to sit in my sunroom and play the ps4, while having the ps4 in the basement. I am only using wi-fi for everything, so it would probably work even better with ethernet cable.

Pulled the trigger on this when I saw it on sale. Useful if you'd like to play some Vita games on your TV or if you'd like to remote play. Memory cards can be pricey though.

It's like having a vita but on the big screen. it does allow for remote play but there is the expected lag, so not for high speed shooter but good for normal paced games.

It is a good product for a great price. Be sure to add $10-20 for a memory card. Device works well, just as advertised. Cheaper way to play vita games.

Support for the PlayStation TV just isn't there, and never really was. It's a cool piece of hardware though, but I can't really find a use for it. Most Vita games are incompatible, and television apps are nonexistent.
Party chat does NOT work with the PS4 controller microphone port, and the use of a bluetooth earpiece is not an option because there is no way to hear chat audio through a bluetooth earpiece without also hearing ALL of the audio. One must use a full headset to be able to chat, but even then, the first-party headsets made for PlayStation are not eve compatible for the PlayStation TV.
Connecting it to a PS4 using remote play is kind of neat to try out a few times, and I found it was actually pretty playable, but I'm not really going to do that when I can play my actual PS4.
Sony decided it was not worth the time and money needed to provide continued support for this product, and I understand that. It was often said that this product had potential, and it did. But it is unlikely that there would be any room for a device like this on the market, even at it's full potential, especially because pretty much everything that hooks up to a television now can be used for games and movies.
Basically, the PlayStation TV is a lost cause, but also a very cool and collectable piece of hardware. It gets two stars for trying.

Plays PSP and PSVita games pretty good. Haven't tried streaming from the PS4 yet however so I can't speak to that. Proprietary memory cards are still too expensive for the PSVita/TV. Originally bought this to replace the PS3 on an additional TV. That PS3 has a dead disk drive so it's mostly used to play retro games and watch Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBOGo, etc. Read online that I could do all that with the PSTV. Not true as of this writing. You can install the PSVita Netflix application, but it does not run successfully on the PSTV. There are conflicting reports on the internet about this functionality. There's also an annoying white LED that seems to blink randomly when the system is off. This can be annoying if the PSTV is located in a bedroom. If I wasn't able to pick this up for about the cost of a game I wouldn't have bothered. I would only recommend if you can find one at a good sale price.

Playstation TV - Good but not great

The premise is great, mirror your Playstation 4 system and play remotely.
And it does do just that. Sometimes. I have a frustration that it drops connection so frequently. And then sometimes the signal is so weak that the game is incredibly pixelated. I have FioS Quantum 50/50 at home, so I am not running slow internet speeds. The TV I am using it on has a great wifi signal, but then I assume the TV also has a much bigger antenna than the PSTV has. I don't have an option to hardwire the PSTV into my router, and I am only about 25ft away from the router, but with a bathroom and closet in-between the router and the PSTV, so I can only assume that the PSTV just can't pick up the signal very well. I'll try it out on another TV.
Ultimately, the PSTV does work, and does what it says it will, however, it isn't working out perfectly for me at this time. But at $39, I can't complain too much!

This is pretty much a PS Vita that hooks up to your TV. Not all PS Vita games are compatible, but the vast majority of them are. All of the good ones are. Also, Most PSP and PS One classics are supported. I mainly use this to play Final Fantasy games and other PS One classics. Aside from Uncharted, MGS HD, and FFX HD, I haven't played many other PS Vita games. You can use either a DS3 or DS4 as the controller. Pretty neat device.

I've had the device for quite some time now. Is it terrible? No, but it depends what you get it for.
Like many have reported, the remote play with PS4 has some awful lag input. Certain games can be considered unplayable due to it. Others are okay over remote play. Overall, the PS Vita is better for it.
I don't use this device for the media apps, but there have been some apps that have been discontinued (no longer receive support/work) such as Youtube.
So what is it good for?
Games that you want to play locally and natively on the device. PSV games like Persona, PSP games like Resistance, and tons of PSOne classics. It has a small form factor so it's cool to have it so that a TV, not connected to a PS3 or PS4, becomes Playstation enabled.
If you don't have a TV that is not connected to a PS3 or PS4, then you should pass.

I got mine for $20, and for that price, it's a steal. It's a great add-on if you already own a Vita, but there are some really weird things about it that make it disappointing. There are many Vita and PSP games that are incompatible, even if they don't involve touch controls or if they work fine on my regular Vita. I have a packed-full Vita memory card that I just swap between the two consoles, and it messes up the order of my bubbles every time I swap it. Very irritating. That said, it's really cool to be able to sometimes play the games on my big tv. Also, if you own a PS4, the remoteplay feature works flawlessly if both consoles are connected through a wired connection.
Like I said before, if the price is good, it's a great little console, despite some really annoying flaws. I wouldn't pay more than $50.

I purchased this item mainly to use the Remote play feature of my ps4, with this system, I can stream my ps4's screen to another tv and play my games while my wife uses the main tv, be aware you have to have an strong connection and also they cannot be too far, otherwise the input lag is noticeable. but for what it's worth it's a great system and only $40.00 (at the time of my purchase and this review)

I thought I received an empty box after I took out the power supply. I kept digging and inside was a small little puck. It works great so far. I'm trying the PlayStation Now beta. It could use a little work. No PS4 to stream from. Over all, this is a very small gaming system for just about anyone. Most of the online game offerings are a little on the older side but still a good collection overall.
Downside, the cost of the memory cards.
