Got my hands on the Sony HT-A7000 flagship soundbar. To complete the home theater, I then purchased the SA-RS5 rears and SW5 sub (expensive setup). After setting everything up (which was a very easy experience) was completely let down by the anemic low sound produced at the rears. I found myself placing my ears up to the speakers assuming they were off! Checked multiple online chats and found I’m not alone. Sony needs to put out a firmware correcting this issue IMMEDIATELY!

This was supposed to be a open box subwoofer in excellent condition. However the subwoofer was DOA because whoever at Best Buy, was too lazy to plug it in to an electrical outlet to see if it actually turned on. Which it did not. Sadly I can not give zero stars.

Installed the rear speakers, was able to link to the a5000 soundbar…once. Was able to optimize the speakers…once. Shut the system off over night. Lost linking on both speakers, was finally able to sync speakers, now the system will not optimize. Went through the troubleshooting, no help there. Waste of time and money.

Pro: -Totally wireless on battery -Battery life Con: -Connection can drop out -Expensive These speakers, paired with the A5000 soundbar and SW5 subwoofer, really made a difference in the sound space. It fills in the rear space making the 360 audio sound fully encompassing. Watching movies with Dolby Atmos or listening to 360 Audio music, the virtual surround speakers work amazingly well. I was hearing sounds spanning from overhead to the side as if there were actually speakers there. These speakers can either be plugged in or be truly wireless on battery. Battery life is good. I got about 8 hours of continuous use until one of the speakers ran out of battery, and took about 2 hours to fully charge. My rear left seems to run out of power faster than the other one. You may need a firmware update but once it’s done, connecting them is simple and it’s automatically done upon powering on. First time setting up, it will run an optimizer for both the connection and sound field. If you change the speaker placements, there’s also a button on the speakers for quick and easy sound optimizing. On battery, you’ll need to power on each speaker for it to reconnect with the sound bar, but it’ll stay connected if it’s plugged in. The connection is stable most of the time, and I have a lot of wireless devices and signal interference in my house. There was one occasion that the speakers started to cut in and out, but rerunning the connection optimizer fixed it. They are expensive, but if you really want full surround sound without the wires, then these will work well. If your audio source is Atmos or 360 Audio, these will make a difference. They sound really good and with their phantom speakers, it’s like magic. Since there’s no wires, they can be stored away when not in use. The battery lasts at least 8 hours and can be used while plugged in if needed. I’m really considering replacing my full size speaker setup with these.

The Sony SA-RS5 rear speakers are compatible with both the HTA5000 and HTA7000 soundbars, as well as the SASW3 and SASW5 subwoofers. I am currently using it with the HTA7000 soundbar, and SASW5 subwoofer and couldn't be more pleased. Out of the box, you simply turn the speakers on and they automatically connect to your wireless network through the soundbar. Each units features sound from an up-firing speaker, front-firing woofer and tweeter, and passive radiators for a full "surround" sound. Once fully charged (about 4 hours for up to 10 hours of play time) they can be placed anywhere in your room. If you ever forget to fully charge the speakers, no worries! You can perform a quick-charge in 10 minutes for about 90 minutes of play time. After initial set up, you can optimize again anytime by simply pressing the "optimization" button on top of the speakers. The greatest thing about the speakers (other than the incredible sound) is that they are rechargeable so you can have truly wireless speakers that can be placed anywhere in the house. The back side of the speaker is flat allowing them to sit flush when wall mounting. With the rechargeable option, they can be mounted on a wall when in use, but easily removed for storage/charging. There's no need to leave them on the wall all of the time, but if you did, there are no unsightly power cords! With 180 total watts (90 watts per speaker) they are a great compliment to a soundbar/subwoofer system. When paired with the other components, the 360 spatial sound is incredible! The sound is totally immersive making sound "appear" to come from areas of the room where there are no speakers. Of course, they also allow for bluetooth connectivity, and screen-mirroring. This system could easily replace your amplifier/receiver and multi-speaker set up. This is an incredible system!

I have taken for granted that it was enough having really good front speakers, a powerful Subwoofer, and just decent rear speakers. But after I tried this new Concept of Sony rear speakers and what I mean with “new” is that these Rear speakers have the impressive RMS Power of 90 watts each one, with woofer, tweeter, and an extra up-firing speaker positioned in an angle on the top designed to make the sound hit the ceiling and complete the surrounding sound effect. This set up works great with the Sony 360 spatial sound. I was able to hear more bass and details in the sound and the extra power gives the impression that the whole area is covered. This is a very significant change if I have to compare to the previous models. The other reason I am saying “new” is because these sets of speakers have built in Battery, so it gives you the ability to locate the speakers in different locations. For example, lets say you are alone at home and want to have the speakers closer to you, you don’t need to hassle with the power unplugging and looking where to connect them, just locate them near you or where you feel is most convenient. The same if you have a crowded in your living room because they have heard you have a Cinema Style Sound in your home, you can locate the speakers in more widely area, and even increase the volume of the rear speakers either manually or with the optimization tool through the Soundbar Sound Setup or by simply pressing the button on top of the RS5. The speaker Battery takes 3 hours to fully charge and lasted around 9 hours. The look is impressive. It matches perfectly with the overall soundbar A7000 and subwoofer look, the cylindrical shape design is to provide a omnidirectional sound distribution. The setup is very simple, these speakers only work with the A7000 and A5000 Soundbars. The setup is the same for both. If you already have the old model of Rear speakers connected to the soundbar, once you start the wireless speakers adding process, it will disconnect the old ones and connect this new set. You can only have once set. Once the soundbar sees this new set in its list, it will ask you update the firmware, and this is a must if you want the soundbar to add the RS5. Then you want to perform the Sound Field Optimization. This is definitely a wonderful and reliable SW tool. It automatically meassure or seize your area to gives you the best performance for each speaker in sound and range. But Sony not only took care of this. The RS5 also has a button on the top, that once you pressed it will do the optimization. Very clever idea since these speakers have been designed with built in Batt that allows you to be move them wherever you want, so you don’t need to go to the setup again. Don’t forget to enable the 360 Spatial sound, it definitely makes a huge difference. I was watching the remake of “The Godfather 3” and even if this is not a “loud” movie, I was able to hear on the rear speakers the chatting of the crowd distinctively very while the main characters were talking. This is the level of detail that makes a great sound effect. Watching Thor Ragnarok was very pleasant, the whole living room area was transformed in a battlefield, with lasers and blasts floating in the air. If you want to manually increase the power sound on this set, or simply want to have a more customizable audio and power setup, you can do it through the soundbar setup. You have to disable the 360 Spatial Sound, and then go to the “Speaker Setting Information” and change the setting from “Sound Field Optimization” to “Manual Speaker mode”, and then you can change the power of the rear speakers, and really all of the speakers you have in the soundbar and the Sub. The Sound Field adjustment Setting will be available while the 360 Spatial Sound is enabled as well, and will let you locate the manually locate the higher or lower the target. The reason I have mentioned all of this, is because the up-firing speakers that are included in the RS5 are a main component to have a successful full surrounding sound effect. One thing to take in consideration is, that when these RS5 are running on battery, if you power down the soundbar, when you power on back it will not power on the Rear speakers, you will have to do it manually. That doesn’t happen when you have the RS5 connected to the power. No matter how many times you reset the soundbar the whole set of speakers will be power on or off with the Soundbar. I think, when the RS5 are connected to the power, they go into a sleeping mode, but when they are Battery Operated only it power off completely. I think this is something that SONY will have to revise. I am very satisfied with these new rear speakers, tehy really make a big difference and improve the performance of the A7000.

Every time I have the opportunity to use and test Sony products is a unique experience, either for things that I like a lot or for things that can be improved in their products and this time something similar happens to me. The unboxing is simple, the two speakers come well protected, the speakers chargers come in a separate box and another the documentation and a pair of plastic adapters for cable management if you want to keep the speakers connected to the charger. It is very important to mention that these wireless rear speakers are basically compatible with 2 soundbar models, the HTA700 and HTA500. These speakers have a battery that gives them an autonomy of up to 10 hours which will depend on the use, at the same time they can be connected to their charger so you don't have to charge them constantly. Regarding the above, I have mixed feelings and it happens that the autonomy of the speakers is decent and I like it because without cables, the speakers look even better, the small problem is that if the speakers are connected with the cable and you turn on the soundbar, and in my case that I have a Sony w300 subwoofer, everything turns on perfect and synchronized, but if you use the speakers without the charger, that is, if you use them with their built-in battery and turn on the soundbar, only the soundbar turns on and the rear speakers have to be turned on manually, which is not an extreme problem, but it would be much more convenient to turn them on together with the complete system just by turning on the soundbar. That aside, I have to say that I am impressed with the change between using the soundbar alone and using it with a subwoofer and rear speakers, I would be at a loss for words to describe the depth of sound, the quality of the voice both listening to music and multimedia content. One of the features that makes the experience even better, is its 360 Spatial Sound Mapping that detects the distance of the rear speakers and the subwoofer with respect to the soundbar, makes measurements of the place where the devices are installed to create virtual speakers in the necessary areas for a more immersive experience and the reality is that it works, I can not ensure that at the same level as in a movie theater but it resembles. At first I noticed how the connection of the soundbar with the rear speakers was not quite stable, but from the settings menu I reestablished the connection and everything worked perfect and besides the fact that the devices work in excellent synergy, the setting menus are clear and easy to understand the resolution of possible problems is contemplated in these menus, I mention this because it will require certain configurations and updates to use the 360 Spatial Sound Mapping that take a little time but nothing out of the ordinary. Aesthetically the speakers look sober but elegant, if used without the charger give a very nice look, you can place them on a table or furniture and also hang them on the wall which I think is great plus at the bottom you can manage the cables very easily to maintain that elegant look, it seems that they weigh too much but in reality it is not so, I think the weight is consistent in relation to the size, they are not very big but robust and this makes the bass be presence in front and behind you, it's great. I can't emphasize enough, the difference between using the soundbar with and without the wireless rear speaker is huge, most of the content on streaming platforms have Dolby quality content that can be enjoyed with these speakers in conjunction with one of the two compatible soundbars and if you have a subwoofer the experience is even better, there is no way I can't recommend these rear speakers as it seems to me a complement not necessary but somewhat fundamental if we talk about a home theater system, if you want to enjoy an immersive experience watching your favorite movies, series, documentaries, music etc. and already have a compatible soundbar, this is what you need without a doubt, absolutely recommended.

Great sound field, a bit bulky

The Sony SA-RS5 speakers make a great addition to a home theatre system. Before these, I've only ever used traditional wired surround sound systems. While those are nice in that they're essentially set-and-forget without the extra failure point of a wireless connection, these are really nice for spaces that are rearranged frequently or if you just don't want to have wires run across your ceiling. The connection is pretty strong with no discernible latency, and I've only lost signal on one of the speakers one time while I was doing setup stuff. Once you've got all that done, they just kind of work. The speakers themselves are kind of bulky. However, this is offset by a couple of factors. First, any compatible sound system has already got the front speakers taken care of, so you only have to find somewhere to put these two. Additionally, the fact that they're rechargeable with a long battery life means that they don't have to be put right next to wall outlets (though you certainly *can* do that). The portability also means you can adjust the size of the sound field as needed - for example, if you have guests over, all you need to do is set the speakers on top of something at the edges of the listening area, and then press the "Optimize" button on either of these speakers to automatically recalibrate the whole system. The speakers are wall-mountable, but I'm not going to list that as a nice feature since it's a standard thing that you'd kind of expect to have. The system for it is a single built-in hook that uses one screw. (Don't use thumbtacks for these.) The real area where these speakers shine is the surround sound capabilities when connected to the proper sound system. For reference, I used a Sony A5000 5.1.2 channel sound bar with an SA-SW3 subwoofer. The rear speakers enable Sony's "360 Spatial Sound Mapping," which is... exactly what it sounds like. Omnidirectional sound. When it works, it sounds amazing. However, there are a couple of caveats. - When listening to music, it used a system called "360 Reality Audio", which doesn't work with every music service. In fact, it only supports 360 by Deezer, Amazon Music, nugs.net, and Tidal. Sony includes a three month free trial to any of these services, but I'm not a fan - I couldn't actually get the sound system to play sound at all once I hooked it up to one of these services. While that's more of a black mark against the sound system than the speakers, it does mean I don't really know if this feature that the rear speakers add would make my sound better at all. - To take full advantage of the "virtual speakers", it appears to work best with stuff like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. Media content that doesn't support these standards works a bit better with 5.1 uncompressed, as far as I can tell. That aside, the sound quality is great. There's a lot of clarity, you can hear all the highs and lows without the bass drowning everything, and stuff generally sounds good. The best part is, they keep sound clarity even at low volumes, so you can do stuff like play video games late at night and still hear everything without waking up the neighbors. I tried playing NieR: Replicant after adding these speakers to my setup and was actually able to hear things I've never heard before in the game. I've generally had horrible luck getting the omnidirectional audio to work properly with music, but when I've played games such as NieR: Replicant or Cyberpunk 2077 it really adds a lot to the experience. It actually does feel like you're in the middle of everything going on, more so than normal 5.1 surround sound. All in all, if you've got a compatible Sony sound system, I'd definitely recommend getting the SA-RS5. They add a lot to the experience and are just generally really high quality speakers.

These speakers sound great with the A5000 soundbar. They are a bit heavy because of the battery contained in them. I do not need the battery backup but purchased these as I wanted the best rear channel speakers to go with the A5000 soundbar. I believe the up-firing drivers help with a more immersive sound. I deducted one star because I had to pay for batteries I do not need nor want. I just do not believe the SA-RS3 speakers would have given me as good a sound as these do. Some say they are too quiet. I watched youtube videos and read articles on setting them to my liking. I do not have any problem hearing them. The whole immersion experience with things recorded in any kind of surround sound is great. Most things I stream are recorded in 5.1. Honestly that sounds just as good as movies I've watched recorded in DTS-X or ATmos. I'm very happy with these speakers.

Completes A Total Surround Sound Experience

These wireless rear speakers, combined with Sony's HT-A5000 Soundbar and SA-SW5 Wireless Subwoofer, create a "360 Spatial Sound" which is uniquely crafted by mapping the sound field of whatever room you place it in. I have the complete set (soundbar/subwoofer/rear speakers) placed in my family room, with the soundbar directly in front and slightly below my television, the subwoofer to the right, and the rear speakers behind our sofa at ear level. It is like watching a movie in a theater, surrounded and enveloped by sound. You have to hear it to believe it, the experience is so good. Set up is effortless--just plug in the rear speakers and they automatically find and connect to the soundbar with a direct wireless connection. Same goes for the sound mapping; just follow the on-screen directions and easy peasy, done. The appearance of these speakers is sleek, with a solid, quality feel. They blend into the background and so are unobtrusive, with built-in rechargeable batteries so that they can be used without wires or plugs snaking behind and/or around them--no need to plug them in at all times. (But you can use them plugged in if you prefer; although they have a really long battery life between charges.) All in all, they complete an immersive total surround sound experience which rivals any movie theater!

    Crisp Quality Sony Sound System!

First, This system is no joke. Its not just a soundbar. No it is a mega soundbar with quality wireless sub woofer and rear channel speakers. This can totally transform your audio/video sound experience. It brings a nice realism to tv, movies, gaming as well as having settings for Spotify, Bluetooth music streaming and ot is also compatible with Google Chromecast and Alexa. This system is dialed in. It is easy to set up.....if you read the directions. Of course I tried to do it without looking at the instructions and got frustrated when I could not get sound out of it. Turns out I had the wires in the wrong spots. Figured out that if you read the guide, its super easy to set up. Sound is customizable and it also does test sounding to make sure your speakers are in optimal spots. Each set of speakers has their own volume settings So you can create the optimal sound experience for whatever you are listening to. This was a replacement upgrade for a very basic soundbar that had good sound, but left me wanting more. This has solved that. Like a theater sound system in my living room!
