Had to return the first one, second one was great!

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to return the first one because it would NOT sync with my Bravia 8 Soundbar. The second one synced with no problems, and I was up and running (including unpacking) in five minutes. The Bravia soundbar sounded great on its own, but it is now outstanding with the Subwoofer. If you're on the fence between subwoofers, get the SA-SW500. The difference is night and day. I only gave it four stars for ease of use, because I had to take the first one back.

Owned for 1 month when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this along with the 65 A90J Sony Oled tv I reviewed that as having the best picture of any set including the new Samsung Oled The TV is Sony Soundbar particular Then I reviewed the Sony 7000 Soundbar and noted that by itself it is okay but when paired with a newer Sony Tv that has both the great internal speaker system and the S center channel Hookup—- it then turns this Soundbar into a great Soundbar. Which brings me to the final piece- that being this SW 5 sub. It puts out plenty of bass. I never turn it above 4. It completes this great system. The only reason I did not give it a 5 is that I have to reset it every 3 or 4 days. Sony CS has walked me through the factory reset 3 times now and after each one-they tell me the crackling will never happen again. But after 4 days or so it does start up. The solution is simple now - I just unplug both the soundbar and sub and wait 30 seconds and replug in. All works great. Now before I watch anything I turn all on and go to a saved Jurassic Park and listen If no crackling- then good to go. If crackling then turn off and then on—- and then good to go. I will say this never happens once good to go. Only when first turning on. My router is a good 11 feet from the sub and I have a great internet hookup. Both Sony and BestBuy have offered to exchange. But it does sound great once all going. Personally I wish all the Soundbar makers gave you a hard wired option - but they do not I am just used to testing my system first thing and taking the extra minute to get the awesome sound. If it was not for this- based on the sound alone - I would have given it a 5.

This one is a little more tame, and still rattles the windows, ours, not the neighbors. A great addition to the Bravia Bar 8 we purchased at the same time.

It pairs great with the HT-A7000 sound bar and extends low frequency ranges beyond what the sound bar can achieve. By no means will it shake the paint off your drywall but it’s also not intended as a high-end audiophile sub. Movies have added punch and rumble in the low frequencies but struggles to remain efficient below 50hz which is due to its smaller cone size. But, again this isn’t a high end sub so you get what you pay for and I’m plenty happy with it as my family room/movie sound system.

Do NOT recommend trying HT A9 without this subwoofer. It should have been bundled with it by default but maybe later. A must have for your home theatre and nothing less.

You can tell the dual subwoofer has a balance bass. The connection was very easy with the Sony HTA9. Cons- this subwoofer should come with the corresponding sound bar and not as an add on to a system. The price is a bit high and prohibitive. Overall I am very happy with this sub and have not negatives with the sound quality.

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I added this subwoofer to my Sony HT-A5000 sound bar, and it added a nice extra 'punch' to the movies and TV shows that I watch. For a small, to average size living room, this is a good investment, it fills the room with bass that you can feel, but only when the movies audio sound track is properly encoded to channel the audio to the appropriate speakers. Otherwise it doesn't add much to regular TV shows, but that's not the subs fault, it can definitely throw some deep bass! Pair it up with the Sony SA-RS5 rear surrounds and you'll have a nice encompassing surround system that you can enjoy for years to come.

Solid but not spectacular…

It works reasonably well, but does not provide the ooomph expected at this price level. Bass is tight, never boomy, and certainly takes the system up a notch or two. Unfortunately I cannot shake the perception that a sub at this price, and physical size (it is big!) should be much more impressive.
