Works for 20 minutes then overheats and shuts off. I returned it the next day.

Excellent Audio and Video. Only one complaint.

The audio and video quality exiting the backside of this player is exceptional. Love the fact that it's a full width unit and doesn't have the wedge shape of the lower models. At the end of the day, it's all about getting your content played though, and this unit does a masterful job. Loading 4K movies is quick and I haven't used a disc that hasn't loaded quickly and properly (after the initial firmware update). My only gripe is with Sony's decision to not include a Digital display on the front face. It's hard to even tell the unit is on. That's nice in a dark home theater, but I like having at least a small digital display with things like track info, audio soundtrack format, etc. Alas, for the kind of quality I'm getting out of it, that's a small complaint. And this player reads literally any disc I feed it. I burned off a collection of high resolution digital music (mostly 24/96) to a data DVD Rom disc and it loads it up and plays all the files flawlessly. This has become my new "universal disc player" replacing a far more expensive Marantz unit.

Great 4k player...streaming not so good

Great 4k disc player when it works right. Good picture. Sound is not so great, as it is considerably lower than TV or game systems (run to a Yamaha amp with Jamo Speakers and Klipsch 12" sub). Streaming is great when it works right. Constantly freezes up on Netflix and have to unplug it. Had many issues with updates, and not playing discs after updating. It is a decent 4k player, but not the best in any way. Would reccommend something else.

A couple things about this player: 1) Update the unit. There are a few reviews here that speak to the player locking up. I experienced that prior to a software update. It's been bulletproof since the update. 2) The unit IS compatible with the WSUBPRE1 rackmount kit. That kit is built for the 1000, but it will work without modification. 3) It's suggested that IR control of the unit is the only option. Others have had success using a prior model's IP driver with C4 and Crestron.

So we purchased a 2016 model Sony TV and the Best Buy rep recommended this blue ray player to accompany our brand new TV. See we hadn’t owned a 4K anything up until this moment, we have spectrum cable, Vudu, Apple TV, etc. so use of the disks/Blu-ray player was minimal but to see the absolute best picture we’d fire it up to see HDR in action. Recently we turned it on only to find that it is not transmitting the video to the TV. I tried three other things to confirm it wasn’t a bad cable or the TV. All work fine and if course since we didn’t use the player frequently we busted the deadline for returns and now we’re stuck with it. I wasn’t sure what the model number was until now. I went to order a new one just now and then realized hey it’s the same model number. Why would I order another one and risk a second dud?? I’m hoping another Sony model will work because I truly hate mixing and matching my home theater brands! Sony used to make amazing products and I go back to trinitron (27”) Which I still have and it works) and Walkman days! Losing faith in their current product line. TV also says it’s HDR but Apple TV says I don’t have the capability. Hmmm. Sony 4K HDR UX800 is what’s written on the back plate of mine to be clear. Longevity and quality go hand in hand or should at least.

DO NOT BUY THIS OR ANY SONY DVD PLAYER!

These are the worse players ever. I’ve bought 4 Sony DVD players and they all freeze, lock up, and you have to unplug them to reset them. Sony won’t admit there is a problem. I was stupid enough to buy the 1000 which is $500. Same problem as the $70 DVD players I’ve had. NEVER EVER BUY A SONY DVD BLU-RAY PLAYER EVER. NEVER EVER! They lock up for no reason and Sony won’t admit any issues. They tell you to reset it. Doesn’t work. BUY ANY BRAND DVD PLAYER BUT NEVER BUY A SONY. IVE NEVER EXPERIENCED A MORE HORRIBLE PRODUCT AND THE COMPANY WILL DO NOTHING!!

Please do not buy this defective Sony player! It freezes and is unresponsive with all buttons until you disconnect it from power. I can’t believe I didn’t read the reviews before I purchased this junk. Sony needs to put out a recall for this!
