Good player at upscaling video images. DVD sound quality is good through hdmi output. Mediocre if used as CD transport via digital Coax output with thin sound and lacking details. The Sony X700 offers almost the same quality/features as the 800 for less money.

This unit is very easy to hook up. As always Sony quality.

Great, except you have to manually switch between Dolby Vision and not Dolby Vision, and this requires looking at the movie case to see if it is a Dolby Vision movie.

I bought the Sony player because I had another model of Sony player earlier that we had great success with. There is another brand out there that I liked the features on better, but it did not provide the lifespan that I expected. Setup was simple, even though we purchased an "open box" sale item without all the documentation. I would certainly recommend this player.

So far, so good! I love how the UBP-X800M2 player interfaces with my Sony A80J OLED TV. The installation and setup was simple. My 4K/Blu-ray DVDs that would fail to play on my other player plays flawlessly on this player. So far, so good!

As a lot of the reviews have noted, this player does have issues with at least DVDs and Blu rays. Glitches cause the playback to stop for a short period of time randomly. It didn't stick around with me long enough to notice if it did it for 4K movies since I still primarily watch dvds and blu rays, so this is a deal breaker. Given the decent rating I was hoping I wouldn't have this issue but here we are... Currently trying the cheaper of the panasonic players (it was $400 when I got it so double this one). I've also tried the cheaper sony and it did the same thing. Seems you have to get expensive 4k players for them to work. Watched a couple of movies on the Panasonic and it had this issue once during one movie, so I'm not holding my breath, but I could tolerate if it's very rarely, but I can't justify getting any of the players over $500.. anyway, with this sony this issue was happening much more often. Do not buy..
