We actually was able to find this as an excellent open box for a great price. Hooked it up to our 4k Sony Bravia TV the picture is outstanding. The upscaling is pretty good from regular Blue Rays.

Excellent picture when setup properly with your tv. Solid built unit pretty heavy in weight. Has some streaming apps but doesn't include all of them. The Sony tv appears to have more, but you probably would use your tv or streaming device for this anyway. Good price point with features this model offers.

So far, so good. Sony products have always been great quality and built to last. Underwhelming amount of apps for streaming, but I'm smart enough to know that's not why I bought a Blu-ray player.

It is surprisingly hard to find a good quality and affordable DVD/Blu-ray player these days, but I believe we have found one with this device! We are very happy with the quality of our purchase and are excited to finally be able to watch our collection without fear of poor image quality or disc scratching.

I have an LG 970 4K Blu-ray player and the Xbox One X's 4K Blu-ray player. Sony's X800M2 knocks all of them out of the park with its crystal clear 4K quality and viscerally thunderous audio capabilities. Plus, it supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision, a laundry list of various formats (everything from MP4 to DVD-ROM to .MOV)

I have never used another 4k bluray player, so I have no idea whether others are noticeably worse than this one - it's possible that this is the pinnacle and I just have expectations that are too high. This thing works fine - sturdy build quality, looks nice, quiet, built-in power supply, installs easily. However, it requires poking around in menus to switch between outputting Dolby Vision and just plain 'ol HDR10. This requires that I closely inspect the box of a 4k bluray and decide which setting I want and choose it before playing. If I forget and start the movie, I have to exit, go to settings, and flip the switch, and then start the movie again. It's a real pain. Aside from that, it's extremely limited as a streaming player - buy this for a dedicated 4k bluray/bluray/DVD/SACD/other random optical media player, not for anything else. I managed to get the remote to control my TCL TV by using a Vizio remote code, so I can change the volume. It does not support CIC to change the volume of a receiver.

This a sturdy, high quality player. A nice metal chassis that feels very premium for such a low price. Has Dolby Vision, a feature i very much wanted and not all players in this price range have. Plays 4k discs, regular Blu-rays, and even DVDs well. Not very loud either, especially compared to my last player.

This player delivers like no other, the response time is perfect, the intergration is easy, the picure and sound are stunnimg compared to its competitors. It got simple software and is super easy to navigate. Well worth the price!

Bought this recently with a Sony - STR-AN1000 as the receiver and the Epson 5050ub for projection. The player works great, and image and just as great as the Xbox 4k blue ray player. Streaming works good with Amazon and Netflix, but that is where i gave the 3 stars, that's all you can stream from. No app store is available to download more apps like Disney, Hulu, ect.. another issue is the CEC connectivity is a bit complicated between the two Sony components. Still working out the bugs on that. If you just need amazon and netflix, this is a good product for you. I will keep the player for the 4k disk capability, but will get another streaming device for the rest of the apps.

Superb picture quality. Even 8mm film to VHS and then onto DVD is amazing. Must use high end HDMI cabling which is not included because each person's connections length is different. Handles 5.1 and 7.1 Dolby and DTS hands down. The optical out is a nice touch.

Earlier this year, I purchased the Sony 950H full array TV and needed a 4K UHD player to pair up with it. After all the reviews, I decided on the UBP-X800M2. The metal frame and sleek design helps with noise and vibration and feels like a solid build. It upscales DVD movies and I think works great with the TV.

Second purchase of this model, upgraded here with Dolby Vision. Picture and sound are terrific. So glad it’s compatible with SACD as well. Wish the remote were backlit, but ergonomically it’s fine.

Definitely an upgrade from my “another brand “ I don’t know if maybe I’m crazy, but the 4k seems more vivid, and definitely a sound upgrade. I would recommend this to anybody that still in the 4K Blu-ray market.

Purchased to play cd's. Not kidding. Coaxial output to a DAC and I can play my old cds. The 4k bluray is great too. Didn't realize how much better movie audio can be on physical disc vs streaming.

This is the best dvd player I’ve ever used. Period. As a Blu-ray player that’s even better. The controls are quick and the machine loads and plays even quicker. Pausing and restarting is a breeze. And has not yet failed to return to the point left from yet. -it plays Dolby Atmos and Dolby vision disks. This is a definite buy. -

This player is excellent. The only downside is if you connect the audio directly to a receiver or soundbar there's a slight sync issue, but there's no options in the settings to alter that. Other than that, it's an excellent player with great sound and picture.

I bought this player because my Panasonic DP-UB820 does not support either SACD and DVD-Audio disks. (Years ago, I had an Oppo Blu-ray player that supported these formats, but the Oppo players were discontinued.) The picture quality of the Sony is excellent for 4K UHD disks (assuming it doesn't freeze up), but the picture quality isn't great for standard Blu-rays or DVDs; the Panasonic is much better in terms of picture quality, More concerning is that the Sony will sometimes freeze up on certain disks. This happened with the 4K edition of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. It played fine on the Panasonic. A big issue for me is that the Sony player doesn't have any sort of display so you can't see how much time has elapsed on a disk, what track of a CD you are on, etc. There is a Display button on the remote to show this information when playing a video disk, but it is annoying because the information blocks a significant portion of the screen. If you want to play a CD, you pretty much have to keep the TV turned on. The Sony does a good job of playing SACDs and DVD-Audio disks. I have the player plugged into an external DAC via the coaxial digital output. If you don't have any SACDs or DVD-Audio disks, I would definitely recommend a Panasonic model instead.
