This is my second Purchase of this model coz the first one lasted for almost a year was damage when our homes was hit by lightning strike a year ago.You better secure all your home streaming devices by connecting it to the uninterruptible power supply( UPS) coz it regulates any voltage irregularities created during lightning strike.This 4K Sony player is a one of the high tier on all other competitive brands, and it has a lot of features.

A good player overall with great picture quality. The feature set is in line with the price. This is my second 800M2 so I liked it enough to buy another one but I do have a few issues with it. First, the inability to turn off Energy saver mode is annoying and many disks don't have a resume feature. I could see it shutting off when stopped, but not paused. I had to program my control system to automatically send a command every 5 minutes to keep the player on. In the vein of control, Sony no longer makes an integration-friendly player after discontinuing the 1100, and IP control of the 800 via anything other than the app remains elusive. That means an IR repeater is necessary. However, the IR window is on the door sand getting an IR repeater to stick to the moving door (most of the front panel opens) is a bit of a challenge. I realize most users simply play disks and use the remote control, but I wanted to point out the issues for those who want to incorporate it into a control system. Sony needs to offer a higher-end unit with RS-232 and IP control.

I have an LG 970 4K Blu-ray player and the Xbox One X's 4K Blu-ray player. Sony's X800M2 knocks all of them out of the park with its crystal clear 4K quality and viscerally thunderous audio capabilities. Plus, it supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision, a laundry list of various formats (everything from MP4 to DVD-ROM to .MOV)

I have never used another 4k bluray player, so I have no idea whether others are noticeably worse than this one - it's possible that this is the pinnacle and I just have expectations that are too high. This thing works fine - sturdy build quality, looks nice, quiet, built-in power supply, installs easily. However, it requires poking around in menus to switch between outputting Dolby Vision and just plain 'ol HDR10. This requires that I closely inspect the box of a 4k bluray and decide which setting I want and choose it before playing. If I forget and start the movie, I have to exit, go to settings, and flip the switch, and then start the movie again. It's a real pain. Aside from that, it's extremely limited as a streaming player - buy this for a dedicated 4k bluray/bluray/DVD/SACD/other random optical media player, not for anything else. I managed to get the remote to control my TCL TV by using a Vizio remote code, so I can change the volume. It does not support CIC to change the volume of a receiver.

Well built, heavy unit. Being used primarily for CD playback. Sounds great and has quick, quiet operation. Just wish that it had more visual display info, but that is a small complaint for such a reasonably priced quality CD player Very similar to the high end Sony Esprit model.

Superb picture quality. Even 8mm film to VHS and then onto DVD is amazing. Must use high end HDMI cabling which is not included because each person's connections length is different. Handles 5.1 and 7.1 Dolby and DTS hands down. The optical out is a nice touch.

I purchased the Sony-UBP-X800M2 4k Ultra Hi-Res Blu-ray player because I heard all of the talk about this player. I think sound is fantastic it plays sacd as well has other cd and it does it very well. The only problem I have had is the remote stop working but luckily it works with other sony dvd player remotes.

Second purchase of this model, upgraded here with Dolby Vision. Picture and sound are terrific. So glad it’s compatible with SACD as well. Wish the remote were backlit, but ergonomically it’s fine.

It's really hard to find a decent DVD player these days and I have a bunch of DVDs that I didn't want to have to chuck out. Finding this one that plays DVDs, blue rays, and CDs was an awesome find. Great picture too.

Purchased to play cd's. Not kidding. Coaxial output to a DAC and I can play my old cds. The 4k bluray is great too. Didn't realize how much better movie audio can be on physical disc vs streaming.

Earlier this year, I purchased the Sony 950H full array TV and needed a 4K UHD player to pair up with it. After all the reviews, I decided on the UBP-X800M2. The metal frame and sleek design helps with noise and vibration and feels like a solid build. It upscales DVD movies and I think works great with the TV.

The Sony Streaming 4K is good at 2 things, 1 compact and 2 the high resolution it can project, what a beast of a 4K machine. Plays high-quality Blu Rays and 4K. The DVD can be unpredictable depending on the grade, but this is an improvement machine, without a doubt, a powerful machine and also without delays and also quiet when playing a movie since in other players you can hear how the DVD sounds, literally they sound like a plane taking off, Having WiFi makes it one of the best DVD players out there.

This is the best dvd player I’ve ever used. Period. As a Blu-ray player that’s even better. The controls are quick and the machine loads and plays even quicker. Pausing and restarting is a breeze. And has not yet failed to return to the point left from yet. -it plays Dolby Atmos and Dolby vision disks. This is a definite buy. -

After settling between this player and the Panasonic ub820 I settled for this for two reasons. The Sony was $150 cheaper and did all the reviews highly rate this player. I didn't want to much ability to play with the HDR like the Panasonic offers. Sony does a good job with that and sometimes less is more for me. But the one negative is that Dolby vision needs to be turned on or off based on the disc. It's annoying and it should auto detect it. Other then that I highly recommend it. Nearly silent operation and the picture and sound is excellent. It plays nice with my Bravia TV for best picture settings automatically. With the exception of Dolby vision. 5 star product IF it was able to auto detect Dolby vision

I'm using this player with a Sony A95L OLED TV and a relatively old Yamaha receiver and HDMI return channel, and am impressed with the level of integration. I can use the tv remote to control everything except opening and closing the player drawer. The upscaling of old blu-rays to 4K is impressive. Note: both the player and the TV have similar upscaling capabilities - I can't tell the difference. I've watch Oppenheimer in 4K on it, and the level of detail is great! I'm looking forward to trying the player with a lesser system that has an LG 43" 4K monitor (not a tv).

This 4k UHD player has a lot of settings that can be adjusted to match what works best for your particular TV and preference. Setup and navigation are easy but it may take some trial and error to adjust the color rendering formats, audio formats, and display sizing the way that you want them. The upscaling is excellent, UHD is perfect, and all special features on the discs are accessible. You can stream links from discs, Netflix, Prime, and Youtube. The only thing that disappointed me on this player is that it would not play some old Northern Exposure discs. It apparently is not compatible with the double sided format that the DVDs use.

Afrter looking at many reviews I chose this player pver the less expensive Sony and the similarly priced Panasonic. The reviews of all players showed some issued with freeze ups during playback but the percentage seemed lower with this player. The player seems to have good build quality. I have played a few disks both 4K and standard Blu Ray. I saw great picture quality and have experienced no freeze ups. Hopefully problems won't develop later. Based on the number of reviews that complained about freeze ups, I did purchase a Geek Squad 4 year plan

I purchased this Sony - UBP-X800M2 - Streaming 4K Ultra HD Hi-Res Audio Wi-Fi Built-In Blu-Ray Player to replace an old Sony DVD player. It is definitely a high-end unit, that in my opinion is a quick plug n play device. Setting up the unit is fast and easy. This is not a compact unit, it is long but sleek looking.
