decided to collect physical media and this is my first player! plays everything beautifully and makes lower quality things hi res so you don’t have to buy the 4k version. although buying 4k movies would be THAT much better it does everything it needs

This 4K Blu-ray player is fantastic! I bought it to go with my new 4K Vizio television. The quality and the clarity of the picture is amazing. I love that all I have to do to play a movie is insert the disc and press play. It turns on the player and the television system.

Only 3 streaming options, Netflix, Prime and Youtube. No analog outlets but it sounds great on my SACD's, better than the older Pioneer Elite unit it replaces. I like that it upsamples everything to 4K. It does a lot, some of it is too complicated for me which leaves me wondering if I am using it right all the time or if I am getting everything out of it it can do.

As a guy who has an Xbox and PS5 I already had 4K players. They work well enough in their own right, and they offer amazing value, but my biggest issue was lack of Dolby vision support. I never got the full potential of my blu rays on those devices. As a videophile I had to get a standalone player. It’s QUIET, the picture is fantastic and also the use of an old school remote makes utilization a breeze. If you’re not too crazy about physical media or you’re just fine with the value that the consoles give then don’t worry about it, but if you want the best picture quality and care about DV without streaming this is a good investment.

Disk Player is okay. The setting screens seem ancient and this player froze up a lot when turning on. I had to unplug device to get going each time. Provides crisp video both in Dolby Vision and 4k UHD

Amazing Blu-ray player! It was extremely easy to set up and connect to my receiver. And it is also easy to control via HDMI CEC via my Sony TV as well. Dolby Vision 4K is automatically set up by default for supported titles, too!

A good player overall with great picture quality. The feature set is in line with the price. This is my second 800M2 so I liked it enough to buy another one but I do have a few issues with it. First, the inability to turn off Energy saver mode is annoying and many disks don't have a resume feature. I could see it shutting off when stopped, but not paused. I had to program my control system to automatically send a command every 5 minutes to keep the player on. In the vein of control, Sony no longer makes an integration-friendly player after discontinuing the 1100, and IP control of the 800 via anything other than the app remains elusive. That means an IR repeater is necessary. However, the IR window is on the door sand getting an IR repeater to stick to the moving door (most of the front panel opens) is a bit of a challenge. I realize most users simply play disks and use the remote control, but I wanted to point out the issues for those who want to incorporate it into a control system. Sony needs to offer a higher-end unit with RS-232 and IP control.

Solidly built and attractive in your rack, this 4K Blu-Ray player handles disks that even other players won't read. Sound is strikingly clean from the pass-through 2nd HDMI output, while video is sharp and colorful from the primary. The only thing negative I can come up with is lack of streaming apps. Then again, I didn't get this to stream.

Great player for all your discs formats. Dual HDMI outs. Didn't know only three apps for streaming. Wish I had more choice there. I own a previous model which has more streaming options. Like that it has Bluetooth feature for headset pairing and late night watching.

The Sony UPB-X800M2 is a great performer. I also have the Sony UPB-X800 that also shows a great picture but it does not have Dolby Vision. Both units are identical cosmetically but the M2 version seems to be a little crisper in the picture. I was very disappointed that the X800 was not upgradeable to Dolby Vision but the unit is at least 5 years old. Unfortunately the option to view a selection in Dolby Vision has to be manually selected through the picture options in setup and returned manually when not viewing a Dolby Vision movie. Both units perform audio masterfully. The price made this a good selection for me because the X800M2 was $200 less than it's Panasonic competitor.

A requirement if you want to see what the new Ultra HD talk is all about. With a 4K TV, correct HDMI 2.1 cable and the Sony UBP-X800M2, I'm in heaven. If details and sound quality are important, this DVD player gets the job done !

Overall it’s been a great player! I love how you can connect to Bluetooth headphones. It’s a solid player for people getting into 4K players. The only negative is that it glitches here and there. I would have to restart the whole player. It’s happened rarely, but it is still a pain. Other than that, I enjoy the player very much.

The unit is much heavier than most blu-ray players and is is supposed to make for a more stable output from the laser module and it seems to work very well. There are multiple output ports including two for HDMI, one for video and audio and one for audio only. Current generation WiFi is supported and provides for enough bandwidth to stream 4K videos from Amazon. Be aware that the second HDMI output for audio only is to be used if you do not have a AV receiver that can process the full 4K stream from the player. Do not use this second HDMI output if you have a AV receiver that can process 4K video and audio as the Sony seems to overheat and have problems with video output when it has to support both HDMI ports. I have a Denon 4300H and it has no issues when processing the 4K output from the Sony UBP-X800M2 player using the single audio and video HDMI port. The remote is one of the better designed ones with a clean user interface and not crowded with superfluous buttons.

I have the UBP-X800 and loved it so much I had to buy another for another room. Great picture on any disc. The audio is awesome. I have lots of SACD and DVD-A discs. This player will play most any disc except for HD DVD. I like the streaming options better on the older unit. If this had the same streaming options it would be 5 stars.
