    Solid 4k Blu-ray Player

Big upgrade over the Xbox Series X when it comes to 4k Blu-ray payback. The picture is cleaner and shaper with audio having a more expanded soundstage. I have only one negative which would make my score a 4.5/5. The player does have an issue with heat dissipation with extended use as it'll start to freeze video playback. Stopping playback and giving it a few minutes to cool down, it'll play just fine.

We're so glad our Best Buy In Home Advisor recommended we upgrade our old Blu-ray player to this 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player to match the new 4K HDR OLED TV we were also purchasing. It's apparent the mechanism is very high quality and, in combination with our new TV, the DVDs and Blu-ray DVDs in our existing library are upscaled and look so much better than before. We can't wait to see how the new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray DVDs will look and sound through this new player.

Good player with fatal flaw (for me)

I enjoyed this player at first. Great picture quality and user interface. But I quickly noticed that my audio was analog into my preamp. Apparently the auto handshake for Dolby Atmos, which I don't have, defaulted to using the player's decoder for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. Now, which do I want decoding: my very expensive preamp or my $400 Blu-ray player? The only setting for the audio stream is auto or off (analog). You CANNOT set it to bitstream only (a very common feature on even first-gen Blu-ray players). So I returned this unit and got the Panasonic DP-UB820P and I can select bitstream-only independently for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD! tl;dr Returned as I could not force unit to bitstream only for audio. Irrelevant if you have Atmos.

This player has many positive aspects. The picture quality is great, and it upscales to 4K really well. It can play pretty much any disc, including super-audio CDs. The sound quality is very good, and it feels like a solid build. What is somewhat annoying is that Dolby Vision is a manual setting, rather than being detected automatically. Other players do this, so Sony should be able to also. It would also have been better to have some front display, especially when playing audio discs. There is no way to get track information, for instance, without having the TV on to get that information displayed. Overall, this is a good quality player for the price.

Great DVD Player for those of us who still use them. I wanted to watch some movies not available on streaming services and some series that now cost money to stream. I got an LG to match my TV. It worked for 2 sessions and DIED! I took it back to BB. Even though I was outside the return period, they were nice enough to allow me to swap it for another model. I got Sony and have been happy ever since. This model works like a charm. Great picture and Sound. Could not be happier with the unit or the store.

This is a great UHD Blu ray player. This was an upgrade for me from a player that didn’t support Dolby vision. The audio is great as well as up converting 1080 blu ray videos.

I was thinking between Panasonic ub8 series and this one, ended up buying this one. Satisfied with play quality, audio quality, time to load the disc. One time it got stuck in close to 2 months usage. Overall happy with the purchase

Love it! I have two! I needed to replace a Samsung player that had stopped playing some disks for no reason. Don't get me wrong, I have 2 Samsung TVs and a Samsung phone. But, when I needed a new blu-ray player I hit "buy it again." I even managed to get a great open box deal shipped to me. It was packed very well and the box on the inside had all the accessories still sealed in original plastic! It's simple to set up, very user friendly, and the picture and sound are fantastic! It's not cheap but doesn't feel cheap and it didn't cost an arm and a leg either... go for it.

The gentleman who assisted me rates a five star rating because because he was that good in his career thus far. He demonstrated confidence but not arrogance a combination not often experienced by the consumer. We have lived in Orlando since 1987 and our purchases from BestBuy are significant. When we took a look at some HDMI cables, we shared what we were doing, a switch box with 4 HDMI connections. When I asked about a cat cable, he immediately took me to the new cables that were much faster than I currently had. The gentleman was very comfortable, sincere, and genuine in his whole demeaner

Excellent audio and video quality. Easy to use, quick to load, and quiet too. I had to return one though; the first one would freeze after and hour into a movie. The replacement unit is perfect though.

On the whole, a great player! Picture is amazing, and physically it feels different than any other Blu-Ray player I've had. Love the "standard" width form factor and flat top that enables it to fit into a stack. Connected it via HDMI to a Marantz SR6014. Primary use case was wanting to be able to play back SACDs and DSD multichannel files from USB drive. I am able to play DSD64 and FLAC multichannel files from the USB key, although DSD128 multichannel does not work. Haven't tried DSD128 stereo. Wish it would support mapping a network drive via SMB and reading in the DSD multichannel files from there.

Not enough homework on my part and I did quite a bit. I guess I assumed a $225 player would at least have a front LED display. Full disclosure I am an Audiophile who likes watching movies not the other way around, this players music CD capabilities is what drew me in. I'm not big on "it loads my discs fast" I could care less I can wait a few seconds for a Bluray to load. Give me more capabilities please. It would be nice to know if the player is on or not at the least!?!?!. And you cannot load more streaming apps, wjat the what!?!?! Can someone say exclusivity deal with Prime, Netflix and YouTube only much!?!?! Let me download more streaming apps for the love of all thats sacred in the bluray player world. This is an average/good player at best. Way overpriced. user experience is terrible. No front LED display and its huge and weighs a ton that alone makes it an average/good player at best. I find that inexcusable and unacceptable. I won't be purchasing another Sony bluray player unless they change. My old 89 dollar Samsung player has a front LED display and lets you download streaming apps e.g. Disney+

    Solid Build Quality Player

Great player and superior build quality compared to any other players in it’s price range. The construction is solid and weighs 8.4 lbs! Compare that to all the other models of Panasonic, LG etc. that are very plastic, light and cheap feeling and weigh in the mid-4 lbs range. Drive is also super quiet compared to others and very stable due to the weight of the unit. I only use the player for Ultra HD Blu-rays, Blu-rays and standard format DVDs and it works perfectly providing great picture quality and sound and no technical issues. I cannot comment on using other types of media inputs with this player.
