Replaced a 10 year old Samsung unit. This one is way heavier, real metal. It is fast and the picture and sound is awesome, highly recommend

Got an open unit "fair condition" and it's worked flawlessly. It just included the player and no remote or cables but that was to be expected and no problem on my end. The model reads uhds without any stuttering or freezes, and upscales Blu rays really well

The picture quality when playing an 4k Blu-ray is awsome. The picture when streaming an app through it, is just adequate.

    Fatally Flawed

I'm not going to waste time doing a pros and cons like I normally do. In the case of this player there is a fatal flaw that in my opinion outweighs any positives. This player has an issue accessing the second layer on a disc when watching longer 4K UHD movies. This means your movie my freeze, stutter, not resume after pausing, or drop out sound. For instance I was watching Everything, Everywhere, All at Once and paused the movie to get a drink. I was past half way into the movie and into the second layer of data on the disc. When I came back and pressed play the player didn't respond. Nothing I did could get the player to move past where I had paused. I know it's more expensive but you'd be better off saving more and getting the Panasonic UB820.

    Works well with Sony TVs

Connected Directly to TV On HDMI 2. TV recognized it as a Sony Bluray Player (with the correct model X800M2). The Sony XBR (2019) OLED TV remote can control this device (where applicable - Bluetooth Remote may be required). Movie Quality is great. Streaming Media - DLNA Client - works well; however, the sorting of movies, does not work for me (I have 700 movie titles, and I have to hunt for directories because they do not appear first like it does on Samsung).

A definite upgrade. Do not sleep on this 4k player. The picture quality is excellent but, the sound quality is why I gave this 5 stars. I noticed a huge difference in how impactful and dynamic everything sounded. I mean instantly. So happy with this purchase. Yes, I caught it on sale, but, I still thinks it's worth the asking price. I have already purchased a second one for my room.

I was looking for a Super Audio CD player, but they are a fortune. I wanted a Blu-Ray player, and was considering something that would play 4K video, with HDR and/or Dolby Vision. This player handles all of these formats. If it fits in the slot this player will play it. And the price is similar to many blu-ray players.

All around solid 4k player that can do dolby vision. My only grip is having to manually turn dolby vision off and on. No real issues.

This is a good 4K player. I was reaching for the top quality Sony 4K player. However, after a lot of consideration I returned this and got the lower model which is much more small and compact. I believe the quality is the same. This particular model offers Bluetooth sound capabilities, but I didn't end up needed that so I exchanged it for the next model down. No regrets. Either model you go with you will be pleased, but for me I rather save the extra money.

    Excellent truly universal disc player

This player is one of a select few, as it is truly universal and will send multichannel DSD from SACD discs over HDMI. Like most current disc players it does not have 7.1 or 5.1 analog outputs. So if you have SACDs, but your receiver or pre pro will not decode DSD, you will have to convert to PCM. I have not done much viewing with this player as I have used it mainly as an audio disc player. I have had no issues with it, and consider it good value for money.

Excellent! The UBP-X800M2 is the best line of 4K Blu-ray players from Sony. The picture quality is up there with the best and it’s one of the most sonically valued decks for the money. It delivers a 4K performance worth checking out!

First I'll start with the Bad/Disapointing/Hard to Explain. Compared to the previous version of Sony UHD BluRay players this player only supports 3 Streaming Apps, so if you have an online Video Library, forget about accessing it from this player. I contacted Sony, to verify this was not part of a future release, and was told in no uncertain terms apps cannot be added to this player (in the future). So the only apps you get are: Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube (paid). No MoviesAnywhere, Vudu, Hulu, UV (going away anyway).... So if you've been collecting titles, and storing UHD in the cloud you wont be able to access them, even though the previous version of this player UBP-X800 had these capabilities. Be fore warned, there is no info in their manual to identify what apps are available (asked Sony about this; no real answers why). So how does it work with UHD 4K discs, most excellent. This is is my second UHD BluRay player, the first with Dolby Vision & Atmos. Now it hard to tell where HDR comes into play and where Dolby Vision come into play. I watched Jumanji (Welcome to the Jungle) on my old player and with the new Sony UBP-X800M2, and there were some "dark" seans that were much more vibrant/decernable on the M2 player. When lighting was bright things were pretty much equivalent with the M2 player having a bit more pop in the colors, but generally hard to differentiate. In the much darker ending it was much easier to see what was moving in the shadows and the shadows seemed to contain more color detail. To some extent this is hard to explain with words, and I tried photographing both to show the difference, but the camera could not capture the subtle differences. Suffice it to say that HDR10 with Dolby Vision does improve picture quality, offering a more real/lifelike picture. Dolby Atmos certainly has improved audio quality. The sound quality from Jumanji was spectacular. I've been collecting 4K UHD Blu-Ray's for a couple of years now (It's all I buy), I probably have 40+ discs, and their production quality does seem to keep improving (can say the same for all the movies). I've been upgrading many of my DVD's to UHD quality via Vudu. Having several hundred Digital Copies in the cloud, I very disappointed I can't access them with this player. The player has better output than anything else I've used/seen. If you don't store you video collection in the cloud, this may not matter to you. It does to me.

I really enjoy this Blu-ray player plays 4K movies with a breeze and I like how the little door opens when putting in the disk kind of gives it a stealth look. Overall, I’m very happy with the quality would definitely recommend this for anyone wanting a physical media using 4K Contant Sony for life
