Your endgame Blu Ray player if you need one

Incredible. I finally upgraded from using the built-in 4K BD functionality of the Xbox series of consoles. Microsoft refuses to update the Blu Ray player app and I was constantly dealing with discs not playing, and older dolby audio formats defaulting to basic 5.1. The worst part is it cannot do Dolby Vision for discs AT ALL. This player does everything. Dolby Vision. Dolby Atmos. DTS-X. Etc. All at the same time.

Excellent Sony 4k blu-ray player... Music CDs sound top notch also. The 4K player displays excellent 4k Pix. Also upscales non-4k videos to near 4k quality. Very easy to learn and navigate; highly recommend

I wanted to buy a 4K/Dolby Atmos capable blue ray for my TV and Sound Bar system. After reading the reviews on various Blue Ray players I decided to go with the Sony -UBP-X800M2. The build quality of this player is impressive. Sony did an excellent job on this. However, I don't understand why this high end player lacks a display panel? I watched several blue ray and regular DVD discs, and the resolution is outstanding. Especially when it upscales non blue ray DVD's. Sound from this player is also excellent when playing Dolby Atmos movies. Interestingly I did not experience any of the issues some other buyers had with WI-FI connections or set-up. I am very satisfied with this Blue Ray player

This is really a great 4k player pretty much plays everything! Looks amazing great picture and audio quality. I actually love the limited apps it has Netflix, Amazon and Youtube. Also you can cast from any device, Music, video. I do not like that this has a bluetooth transmitter but not a reciever. I have no use for a bluetooth transmitter. I do not have bluetooth speakers or headphones so this is just a useless feature for me. But if you do have those things I can see the point.lastly and worst of all is the media server. This is complete garbage I can only manage to play music on it no video or music? My network is set correct and so are my computers but it just does not work! Terrible! You cannot even use Plex with this. This is why I went 4 stars and not 5. I mainly bought this for 4k ultra discs and this unit sure delivers with those! Im using wifi and I have great speed and signal. So all in all I am pretty happy with the npurchase.

So far so good. Excellent picture and sound quality for HD and 4K discs. Very quiet during playing. Disc tray is very quiet as well. Seems very well made. I truly hope I won't encounter freezing issues as other reviewers did. I have other means for streaming so I don't use the built-in streaming apps so I have no ideas how good they are. Playing 4K contents from a jump drive is also very snappy with excellent result both graphically and sonically. I have a ton of 4K HDR 10/Dolby Vision/Atmos content on jump drive to test, and it's been excellent so far. As for CD playback, especially SACD playback, if you have a good DAC to connect via coax, this should be a big plus. Not many 4K players support SACD.

Excellent Native 4K and Upscaling Player

I've had this player for several months now and have had an opportunity to watch various 4K UHD discs as well as 1080p Blu-Rays. The player is worth the extra cost over lesser players. The difference is apparent in performance and the upscaling is excellent. Since there are no 4K discs yet of the original Star Trek movies I was curious as to how Star Trek: The Motion Picture would look...in a word, amazing. I was shocked at how well the picture was upscaled by the player and by my Sony 75" 900 series TV. I would definitely recommend the extra cost of this player. It is solidly made and not cheap plastic. After getting a 4K TV and 4K content, you owe it to yourself to play them (and your existing 1080p discs) on a high-end player.

I upgraded to this model after owning the previous model (UBP-800, the M2 was added to the model numberfor this model). Form factor wise it looks identical on the outside to the previous model. It actually comes with the same remote as the previous model. The older model only supported HDR but this one supports Dolby Vision. This newer model also supports HDR. Some people say they cannot tell the difference between the two formats. I must be one of the few who can. I can absolutely tell the difference. There is a lot more color depth with Dolby Vision. My wife and Father-in-law have said they couldn’t tell the difference between the old player and the newer one. It also runs very quiet (no loud noises like planes taking off) Note you do have to enable Dolby Vision manually through the settings menu to turn it on. It is not enabled by default. Having read all the reviews I could find, I knew this ahead of time when I made the purchase. There is also a firmware update that should be made to add more support for discs. You can do the update over the internet by plugging the unit into your WiFi router via Ethernet or connecting it to your wireless network. This player does amazing playing music CDs too. A great player overall. The previous model was great too except it didn’t have Dolby Vision support.

This is a great piece of hardware only if you have lots of disks. I bought it on sale, but cant really justify this at full price, especially when Sony make a cheaper 4k player that has more streaming services than this one. If you buy 4k movies in disk form, this device is perfect. If rental services like redbox start renting 4k disks it may see more action. However, if you are like me and mostly stream movies or have digitized your personal collection, you are better off buying a 4k streaming device like apple tv or roku that works with the services you use, which costs less than this device. This not a streaming device, unless you only use netflix, youtube, and amazon, and for $300 is more luxury than utility.

The Sony UBP-X800M2 4K UHD Bly-ray player is a very good buy. It met all my expectations. It plays all my disk in my collection. I was upgrading from a Samsung unit and wanted Dolby Vision. And what a difference it makes with Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos. Picture is much better then the Samsung unit. As everyone else stated, the only one minus is you have to manually switch to Dolby Vision. To do that automatically, you have to spend twice as much on a Panasonic model. Everything else about this model is great.

This is an easy to navigate and control 4k UHD Blu-ray player that delivers excellent picture quality. There has been much said about having to toggle the Dolby Vision setting on or off depending on the UHD disc to be played...but since many 4k discs also include a digital code for streaming this seems like a nit picky criticism. I haven't had a chance to optimize and tweak the picture settings further for even sharper detail but the default upscaling of Blu-ray discs performs quite well and displays very crisp images. Mechanically, the UBP-X800M2 is quite fast and responsive and loads disc content very quickly. I've had no issues with the player and it has integrated well with my Sony X950H television.

Decided to "upgrade" from a PS3 that had stopped playing Blu-Ray's. This does everything I need it to but feels "cramped" compared to my PS3. As far as I can tell you can only have the pre-installed Amazon Prime, Netflix, and YouTube apps on the device. No Hulu, HBO, Showtime, or other streaming services are available. My other nit is that there's no way to not output audio via HDMI. I have an older stereo that doesn't handle HDMI so I have to use the digital coaxial out to the stereo but the TV still gets audio and the two are out of sync just enough to make it feel like an echo. I haven't tried 4k yet (TV is only 1080p) so I can't offer an educated opinion. Oh, I also miss my PS3's Bluetooth remote. The included remote works when you point it towards it, but if there's something in the way in can take moving the remote or object out of the way before you can use it again.

Much better than the lesser 700 model. Heavy quality construction. Haven't tried all the audio discs this thing can play but optimistic. So far great with 4k surround system. Kinda wish it had a display on front.

Great upscaling, solid build, Dolby Vision and Atmos makes this a perfect compliment for any 4K TV. The only downside I can see is a lack of a Optical audio output my older AV receiver. A Best Buy for me! ; )

I love this product. Its fast and plays bluray discs with precision. It has impeccable quality for the price. I looked at many different players and read countless reviews and Im glad I chose this one. My main purpose for this particular purchase of this player was that it can handle both dolby vision and dolby atmos. Its a perfect addition to my personal Sony tech lineup with my 85in sony tv w/ imax visual settings and my ps5

This was an upgrade for me. The picture quality is amazing! I mean seriously I finally can tell the difference between 4K UHD Blu-ray’s and standard Blu-ray’s. It has Dolby Atmos Support and DTS X support which is phenomena, the hi-res audio is absolutely incredible. This is fantastic player to have if you own a 4K tv with HDR/Dolby Vision, and yes this has Dolby vision support. I originally had the Samsung UHD player that cost 199.99 and I had to shell out a 100 extra on this but it’s totally worth it. My only Negative for this player at the moment is that it you have to turn Dolby Vision on and off, which honestly isn’t that big of deal to do and I’m sure Sony will probably fix in a update. So far I have watched rewatched a few of my UHD Blu-ray’s and I have noticed no banding, and a lot more clarity even on the 2k DI disc. I highly recommend this player!

I got this player for about month. Only watch one movie on it that is 4k ultra. I have one time condition where disc freeze, also when watching movie can't see confirmation that watching in 4k, i got notification uhd disk or something like that, i do have 4k tv it is xr90k by sony. Other than that i think that this 4k player is really good and can bring you good viewing experience.

This player has many positive aspects. The picture quality is great, and it upscales to 4K really well. It can play pretty much any disc, including super-audio CDs. The sound quality is very good, and it feels like a solid build. What is somewhat annoying is that Dolby Vision is a manual setting, rather than being detected automatically. Other players do this, so Sony should be able to also. It would also have been better to have some front display, especially when playing audio discs. There is no way to get track information, for instance, without having the TV on to get that information displayed. Overall, this is a good quality player for the price.

This is my second X800M2; the first one died after 2 years (be smart and purchase the extended GS warranty with this). Great audio and video quality from this player - it can't be beat for the price ! I set the upscaling to 4K and all my MP4s, Blurays and DVDs look great in 4K. HDR and DolbyVision are amazing. Both players have crashed every 2-3 weeks and require unplugging and then re-connecting to the wireless network. Be sure to have easy access to to the power cable ! Only three apps for this unit , but I only use 2, so that's fine. Set up is intuitive and east to understand. Don't worry about manually turning off/on DV, it's easy to do.

Limited streaming apps. A big reason I bought this one was for internet streaming services as well as bluray. It's for the "other" TV that's a bit older and doesn't have builtin streaming services. Unfortunately it only supports Netflix, Amazon, and Youtube (which I don't use). NOT Hulu or HBO. And probably never will. Picture looks good on blurays, but doesn't meet my needs.
