Sony Bologna you were so close!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own the X800 that his version replaces and overall it performs in an extremely similar manner. Built like a tank and feels like an extremely sturdy player. The only true difference I can tell between the 2 is that this X800M2 allows Dolby Vision playback. Picture is extremely nice regarding any 4K or Bluray discs I've played and any 4K disc that includes Dolby Vision is truly stunning. The only reason I gave this 4/5 is having to manually toggle between Dolby Vision in the menu. If you are playing a Dolby Vision enhanced disc you have to go into the menu before the movie begins and turn it on. If the next movie you play doesn't have Dolvy Vision you have to go back in and turn it off otherwise it'll essentially force feed the player into playing the non-Dolby Vision disc in Dolby Vision enhanced colors and it'll be unnatural looking. Minor gripe to have but it should be able to automatically detect when a disc is capable of playing in Dolby Vision rather than the user having to go in and set it on or off.

Excellent product.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Touch to beat at this price. It is also very musical for a 4k player - SACD’s sound excellent. I hate the fact that the front plate has no display but it’s not a deal breaker. I also have the 700. If you are interested only in videos, that is a better deal. If you want to play CD’s and SACD’s the 800 is the way to go.

excellent CD transport for the money
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't have a 4k TV hence I can only review audio. I bought it as CD transport to play CD and SACD, as my 20 year old Sony DVD player died even after I took it apart and cleaned the lense. The 10 year old Panasonic BDT-210 I used has inferior audio quality compared to my old sony, either due to player itself or I am comparing optical out from BDT-210 (no choice, it does not have coaxis) vs coaxis from old Sony. When I put X800m2 into the system, the sound is much cleaner. The cheapest other CD transport costs twice the money, and can not play SACD, transport reads SACD costs >$2000, and I am not sure if my humble system can tell much difference. The next feature I like is using it as a render to stream HiRes music from my computer through Jriver software. Orginally I thought I need to open ports on my firewall (according to Jriver's website), but it turns out no need, once I enable DLNA in Jriver's network settings, it will set up everything in the background. I can control X800m2 with Jriver app on my computer. And better yet, I am using JRemote to control what to play on my iphone. (not Jriver Panel, which would play the music on iphone, instead of streaming to X800m2). The sound quality is much better than playing HiRes music from PC/iphone (through USB directly to DAC). I can hear exact 3D position of each instruments of "Bozza: Children’s Overture sounds (free 2L sample)" in my room, I did not get this good sound image through USB (I am glad I did not spend $200+ for audio grad USB cable and USB filter, see youtube An introduction to playing high quality music files by Hans Beekhuyzen, 10:03). So, I like its CD transport and streaming. For $300, it does the job to the level of quality I am satisfied. Set up: X800m2 feeding Denafrips Ares II, balanced to Schiit Freya+, SE to Aegir, to Polk LSI-9, all cables are audioquest except balanced cable from dac to preamp, which is Mogami.

Great picture quality and must for audiophiles!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The X800M2 was super easy to set up. I have an older receiver, so the extra HDMI out for audio only was a great option. I had some audio lip synch issues at first, but after playing with the options a little (and turning off 24fps) was able to adjust it. I have quite a few SACD and DVDA discs, so picking this player was a no brainer for my needs. This things plays just about any kind of audio file you can throw at it, and does a fantastic job. I haven't had any issues with the player locking up or freezing. Turning Dolby Vision on and off isn't a big deal, but I do wish that it was automatic. There's not too many streaming options, but if you have a smart TV or game system, you'll probably have most of them already anyway. I'm very happy with this machine.

Handy bluetooth features
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Went back and forth between Sony and Panasonic- both brands have great reviews and fantastic products. What ultimately made me land on this model, though, was the ability to pair and send audio directly to my bluetooth headphones- handy for when I needed to watch quietly, but still wanted to enjoy full sound. You can pair bluetooth speakers in the same way if you like. Picture quality and operation is excellent, as is upscaling my 1080 bluerays to 4K. Load times are speedy and menus are smooth. Integration with my Harmony remote was seamless as well. I have Roku for streaming, so don't use that feature on this unit, but the apps are there if you need it.

Sound Proof construction and awesome capability
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Solidly built minimizing noise of spinning disc to hear the quietest moments of a movie. BraviaSync works perfectly. GUI works fast and easy as does BD Live content due to 5Ghz wireless (vs. 2.4 Ghz on cheaper models) with dual band MIMO technology. LOVE it allows simultaneous HDMI and Bluetooth Audio. Kids can watch the movie on TV/Ampifier system surround sound in basement while Parents can monitor language/content via Bluetooth speaker upstairs or separate room (or can just extend the audio in a large open space). I was suprised at the quality of BT audio because LDAC transmits 3x the data of normal Bluetooth connections, for high-quality sound. 2nd HDMI out to amplifier is nice. Played High Res Audio extremely well due to the DSEE HX sound enhancement and media server works well over network. Value is good when on sale (or even not when compared to Panasonic prices). Only down side is I have to manually switch on/off the Dolby Vision, but that small inconvenience isn't worth paying $200 more for the comparable Panasonic - and neither is the HDR10+ on the Pano. The HDR10 with Sony is incredible and my eye would never tell the difference due to Sony's incredible contrast ratio, BT.2020 color spaces and Hybrid Log Gamma which pops the highlights and shadows so dark/dim lighted scenes are still easy to see. After 5 hours of playback the unit was still room temp (not warm at all) due to the Heat Sink and Disk Drive and cooling built in to inctrease length of life of the player in an enclosed cabinet with minimal ventilation.

Excellent-just wish for two features
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great machine. Love that it is a universal player that can play DVD-Audio and SACD discs. And a great value. I almost gave it a 5. Wish I could give a 4.5, but can't go to a 5 for some minor issues. As others said, the implementation of Dolby Vision is a bit wonky and cumbersome (although it works), and there is no HDR10+ support (minor issue for now). I also wish there was a display - at least showing elapsed time and some other pertinent info. I was happy to replace my old Blu Ray player and DVD Audio/SACD player with this one machine to clear up space (and cabling!) in my rack! Picture and sound is great and easy setup. Limited apps, but that is ok too.

Bed blueray player ever made
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The delivery was so quick. Very easy to hitch up to tv and stereo with the dual hdmi outputs on the player.I have had a lot of surround sound products and blue ray players but this one performs better that a 1000 dollar one I bought a couple of years ago. You can tell it’s well built and solid by the wt. of the player. Streaming music and movies in 4 k is awesome.if it’s time to upgrade jump on one of these while there still available at Best Buy who has the best shipping and best support of all the major sellers of Sony products

Another Solid 4K UHD Player From Sony
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was excited to hear Sony was releasing a follow up to it's X800 player and that it would finally have Dolby Vision. This player has a solid build quality identical to the previous model, and has a new user interface that feels less cluttered than previous models. The player does have Dolby Vision, but for some reason it has to be manually turned on and off from movie to movie. If you forget to turn off Dolby Vision on a regular HDR10 movie, colors may appear a bit blown out. I'm hoping this gets fixed in a software update.

A great first smart tv
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first and only "smart tv" and I'm very, very impressed with it. I've had it a couple of years now and am not sure if this model is still available. The screen is very, very and easy-to-read. I bought a Sony sound bar for it to enhance the sound quality; that makes a big difference. The one thing I would improve is the remote control; it's very thin plastic and has a "cheap" feel to it; that may be true of most remotes these days. I would definitely buy this tv again. Best Buy made my buying experience very easy.

Fantastic 4K Player!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven't used this for streaming yet as I do all of that from my Sony OLED A9G. I heard the knock was that it could only stream Netflix and a couple of others. I bought it for playing 4K movies, hoping that the picture was far superior to what I was playing on the XBOX One X. The difference in video quality and sound were amazing and glad I made the purchase. I have the Bluetooth synced with my TV and sound bar and I have my audio receiver pumping sound as well to my other speakers. Back in the day I used to record a lot onto DVD+ and other media, which this will handle until i move everything to the cloud and stream it sometime in the future. I'm sure this player can do a lot more for me that I haven't even tried yet. I would definitely spend the extra and upgrade to this model over the 700.

Does what its supposed to do
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For a person who doesn't like Sony products I always end up with a bunch of their stuff! Im down to 1 gaming, 2 TVs and a handful of bluerays. This blueray has a very cool 2nd hdmi which seems to be a dedicated audio connect for my receiver. I like limiting components between signals. The upscaling? I only tossed in DP2 in 4k but that was awesome! Until this blueray I had no respect for SONY's Netflix app, I guess that was due to the age of my other equipment. This is good, more than good enough. Remote is fair but it's more than adequate, maybe just buy a harmony and learn externally fueled joy. Nice weight to the player and finally the correct width!@!! I'm so sick of stacking components that very in size. It looks stupid and is trippy. No one wants that, not even hipsters. Tons of adjusts or auto settings, to tweak or not to tweak-it offers the options. Get it

||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The set up was vary easy. The picture is outstanding in 4k. Value Universal Disc Player
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this as a backup to my Magnetar 900. So far it plays everything I've tried, including CDs, DVDs, DVD-As, SACDS, Blu-Rays, 4K Blu-Rays, and Blu-Ray Audios. While it is slighly less precise than the Magnetar on music and video upscaling, it's also almost 1/10 the cost. The only big downside is that Dolby Vision must be selected and de-selected manually using the menu system.

Outstanding 4k Blue Ray player from Sony
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted to buy a 4K/Dolby Atmos capable blue ray for my TV and Sound Bar system. After reading the reviews on various Blue Ray players I decided to go with the Sony -UBP-X800M2. The build quality of this player is impressive. Sony did an excellent job on this. However, I don't understand why this high end player lacks a display panel? I watched several blue ray and regular DVD discs, and the resolution is outstanding. Especially when it upscales non blue ray DVD's. Sound from this player is also excellent when playing Dolby Atmos movies. Interestingly I did not experience any of the issues some other buyers had with WI-FI connections or set-up. I am very satisfied with this Blue Ray player

Perfect except no front display
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased a second unit when my dedicated 3D Blu-ray player stopped working from 2010. With onboard support for niche formats I use like 3D Blu-Ray, SACD and DVD-Audio, these format players are getting harder to find so it will be nice to have a "back up" should my main unit go down in the future. As mentioned in my title, no front display so everything is on the TV screen. If you use for CDs and SACDs like I do, I would probably not pair with an OLED display as the menus stay on screen in a fixed position the whole time you are listening to music so there is a high risk of burn-in. I don't know if there is an option to turn on the on-screen display but I have it connected to a LCD panel. Once I got use to having all menus on the TV, I actually like it and can read it better from across the room. I have always picked up my players when they are on sale for $250 (80 off regular price) but others have said 199 is possible on bigger sales like black Friday, etc. Even at full price, having a player which will play every optical disc format for video and audio it is still a deal to me. Thank you Sony for making this wonderful player in the age of streaming and digital entertainment!

Great if you like 4k UHD disks, but pricey!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great piece of hardware only if you have lots of disks. I bought it on sale, but cant really justify this at full price, especially when Sony make a cheaper 4k player that has more streaming services than this one. If you buy 4k movies in disk form, this device is perfect. If rental services like redbox start renting 4k disks it may see more action. However, if you are like me and mostly stream movies or have digitized your personal collection, you are better off buying a 4k streaming device like apple tv or roku that works with the services you use, which costs less than this device. This not a streaming device, unless you only use netflix, youtube, and amazon, and for $300 is more luxury than utility.
