WOW is this nice!!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to use with my new Sony 4K TV. It did however, take some trial & error to get things working correctly. The main problem was that my 8 year old AVR is not equipped for 4K. It had the HDMI's but not rated for 4K. Another reason for buying this model player was the ability to play my hybrid SACD's . Man that's areal treat to finally be able to hear the SACD band. 4K discs look outstanding on this player as well, as blu-rays & regular DVD's Definitely worth the additional expense .

Improves low resolution DVDs !
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought BP-X00M2 10/29/2023. It is a nice player. The one feature I want to mention is the fact it clears up the picture fuzziness of old DVDs in lower resolution really well. I'm playing Peter Sellar's "Cosi Fan Tutti "Opera I have on DvD. the image quality of this Opera is basically the same as a Laserdisc (better than VHS, but not as good as the usual DVD. Ive owned this DVD for many years. and can say the image is only fair. But.. The Sony UBP=X800M2 clears it up! I does take about 20 seconds for the image to improve. Subtittle edges take a bit longer, like a minute to get really sharp. The image improves so much I am just amazed at what this DVD player can do. I have thousands of old DVDs and this player makes them better. I have no comparison to any other 4K players. I can only say am pleased with this Sony

Excellent player but with one major flaw
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have this player as well as its predecessor, the original UBP-X800 that I also purchased at Best Buy. It plays movies, CD's and SACD discs beautifully. It does not have as many apps as its predecessor but that is irrelevant as every app I need is on my Sony 930E Android TV. I bought this player for one reason: to add Dolby Vision. And that is the rub. Sony added Dolby Vision to its 930E series televisions and I wanted a play to match so I had that option. The Sony TV readily switches from HDR10 to Dolby Vision depending on content. The M2 has the same excellent build quality as its predecessor. Unfortunately the X800M2 does not. You manually have to switch the player from one format to the other. While I have heard many technical and operational explanations of why this player does not yet do auto switching, to quote "I say B#," Hopefully Sony will release a firmware update that enables auto switching between HDR10 and Dolby Vision, both for this player and the previously released UBP=X700, Meanwhile I am enjoying everything in HDR10. I could go to the bother of manually switching formats. My wife. No way! So, the new M2 is connected to my 930E and the original X800 to my Sony 900E. I love the player but will love it more if Sony updates it to auto format switching.

Solid player with some streaming options
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This takes the place of a Sony 1100ES blu-ray that failed after jlust 16 months of service. It handles everything well, from movies to streaming, plus SACD music and conventional CDs. It lacks the display of its more expensive (but discontinued) predecessor, but otherwise looks and operates pretty much the same way--fingers crossed that it stays the course and remains less buggy and unreliable than the 1100 that caused us so many problems.

It gets a seal of approval from me
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It just works!! Ive gone thru cheap players that are finicky as heck to more expensive ones that seem to lose signal constantly (looking at u lg) this 4k player plain works! Reads every dvd, blu ray, 4k disc ive popped in and plays flawlessly! The internet connection when connected stays connected. My only small complaint is it has very few available apps HOWEVER i didn't buy this thing to use as a smartbox. I wanted it to actually read discs and not overheat and get unresponsive like sonys cheaper but still expensive other 4k player and lg as well. This one is the real deal you wont be dissappointed if you want a basic 4k player without all bells and whistles but does what its suppose to do very well. Great picture sound and color and upres old dvds nicely!

Compact player more solidly built than many.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Player was super easy to set up and getting playing. This model has a slightly heavier duty case and build quality. The disc tray remains lightweight plastic but operates smoothly. The unit is responsive to remote commends. Connected wirelessly to my home network and updated firmware smoothly. No issues so far with freezing or locking up the unit.

Sony 4k player
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The player is of great quality. It does not feel cheap. I compared the picture and sound quality to my PS5 and Xbox and easily beat them. The only real downside to the player is that you have to manually change/turn off the Dolby digital picture in order to play regular Blu-ray disc. Outside of that there really isn't much of a downside to this player. Music CDs are really good too. It plays all different formats that I threw at it. Overall happy with this purchase.

Posted .Hi RaulJ,
Thank you so much for your kind words. We’re thrilled to hear that you’re enjoying the sound and picture quality in your Sony Blu-Ray player. Your feedback means a lot to us.
Our sincerest apologies for the issues you’ve encountered about the changes that you need to do manually in order to play regular Blu-Ray discs. We understand that it can be inconvenient to manually change that. This is a common requirement for some Blu-ray players, including the UBP-X800M2.
Currently, there is no automatic detection feature for Dolby Vision content on this model. You will need to manually adjust the settings each time you switch between different types of discs to ensure the best playback experience.
We apologize for the inconveniences this caused.
Sincerely,
- Stephanie

Sony almost High End.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like the build quality of the UBP-x800M2 in this day of mostly throw away Blu-ray players . What I do not like is a lack of an internet browser and more apps . I got this for its Dolby Vision support. For me it looks so much better than regular HDR10. I have this connected to a 55inch Visio HDTV. Just Beautiful!! looking at my 4k and Blu-ray disks. Netflix looks a little more crisp under the Dolby Vision off this player vs Netflix on my Nvidia Shield TV device.

First player I have purchased in a decade
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the first player I’ve had since the 2010s. I have been using my PS4 for bluray movies. I have since upgraded my TV and wanted to get into 4K steelbooks. So i opted to purchase what I have seen as the best bluray player on the market. So far it doesn’t disappoint. Top notch build quality. It connects great to my Sony TV and I can control the TV with the included remote. Love watching 4K content and have not had any issues. Make sure to wipe down your discs with a cloth before and after use.

Great Player
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Perfect player for all disc types. DVD, Blu ray and 4k all work as advertised. 4k with HDR looks very nice. Of course make sure your TV has HDR capabilities to see this affect. Has all the "smart" features but i got this to get away from streaming apps. Remote is straight forward and easy to use.

A ton of listening and viewing options
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit will play all of my audio types (Dvd-Audio , DTS and SACDwith very good sound and looks great on my Samsung 65" tv. It is built very well having a metal case and It also has some streaming apps. One negative thing is it does not have the VUDU app and according to Sony tech support, it never will. Its predecessor had an app store this one comes pre-loaded with Netflix, YouTube and Amazon and you can not add anything else. (Bad move Sony) But all this for only $249.99 on sale makes this a great unit.

Top notch Sony quality.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After buying a Sony 4K television, the next logical step was to purchase a 4K player. I have another 4K brand player in the bedroom but this Sony blows it out of the water performance wise. It is just overall a better quality player. The menu is simple but functional and the remote is more than adequate. It only offers 3 streaming options but I primarily use this for playing discs and use my TV for streaming. I'm very glad I went with Sony.

Great 4K Player But Limits Streaming
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This 4K player puts out a sharp, clear picture with great resolution. It even upgrades Blu-ray discs to look like 4K! It does HDR and Dolby Vision upgrades if your TV and discs offer that video platform. It's built like a solid tank, not plastic cheap. Set up is very easy. Just hook up the HDMI cable and go into the settings and you're in business. The only negative is that this Sony 5K player limits streaming possibilities. It only permits streaming on Netflix, Amazon and YouTube. No Hulu, HBO or anything else. If you can overlook the streaming options, this is the 4K player for you.

Fantastic
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded from a LG Blu-Ray player that I’ve had for seven years. The first thing I noticed was the gigantic change in the surround sound. It was unbelievable. So much better. The picture was crystal clear and I believe the colors were better. I don’t have a 4K television yet, that will come before the end of the year so I can’t say how that looks. All I can base my review on is the difference between the new Sony 4K player and an older LG. Love this player and would buy again.

ZERO display of anything
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture quality of this player is no doubt superb and I couldn't be happier with that. The completely blacked out front with absolutely NOTHING displayed on the front gets old. There are so many times that I pause a blu and would like to know how far I am into it on the front display (that's just one example). That solid flat black front panel is exactly as it will look once you plug it in. Even the power light is almost invisible. Sometimes I don't know if it's on or not. I liked that look at first, but functionality wise it stinks.

DVD-Audio, the feature I forgot about
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently bought Sony UBP-X700 because I thought it had everything I wanted. Then I discovered that UBP-X800M2 has DVD-Audio playback. I have some DVD-Audio discs because I used to own a DVD-Video/Audio SACD player. DVD-Audio is an obsolete high resolution audio format that lost the format war with Sony's SACD format. I would not have expected an Sony product to include DVD-Audio. DVD-Audio plays Dolby Digital 5.1 with lossy compression on DVD-Video players. On this player my DVD-Audio discs play 5.1 channels 96kHz/24bit resolution with lossless compression. Compare that to CD 2.0 channels 44.1kHz/16bit. My Beatles Love and Dire Straits Brother's in Arms anniversary edition sound perfect. Vinyl analog lovers don't know what they are talking about. As a video player UBP-X800M2 lacks apps for streaming services, but I have those on my TV. The network video player connects easily to my SiliconDust HDHomeRun connect.

Great UHD Player
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great build quality and easy setup. I have the older 800, and I love the fact that this M2 version supports Dolby Vision where as the older version does not. Plays great on my Sony TV! The player’s remote also has some basic controls for my tv as well which is a handy feature. I would definitely recommend this product for anyone looking for a great UHD player.
