ZERO display of anything
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture quality of this player is no doubt superb and I couldn't be happier with that. The completely blacked out front with absolutely NOTHING displayed on the front gets old. There are so many times that I pause a blu and would like to know how far I am into it on the front display (that's just one example). That solid flat black front panel is exactly as it will look once you plug it in. Even the power light is almost invisible. Sometimes I don't know if it's on or not. I liked that look at first, but functionality wise it stinks.

Improves low resolution DVDs !
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought BP-X00M2 10/29/2023. It is a nice player. The one feature I want to mention is the fact it clears up the picture fuzziness of old DVDs in lower resolution really well. I'm playing Peter Sellar's "Cosi Fan Tutti "Opera I have on DvD. the image quality of this Opera is basically the same as a Laserdisc (better than VHS, but not as good as the usual DVD. Ive owned this DVD for many years. and can say the image is only fair. But.. The Sony UBP=X800M2 clears it up! I does take about 20 seconds for the image to improve. Subtittle edges take a bit longer, like a minute to get really sharp. The image improves so much I am just amazed at what this DVD player can do. I have thousands of old DVDs and this player makes them better. I have no comparison to any other 4K players. I can only say am pleased with this Sony

DVD-Audio, the feature I forgot about
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently bought Sony UBP-X700 because I thought it had everything I wanted. Then I discovered that UBP-X800M2 has DVD-Audio playback. I have some DVD-Audio discs because I used to own a DVD-Video/Audio SACD player. DVD-Audio is an obsolete high resolution audio format that lost the format war with Sony's SACD format. I would not have expected an Sony product to include DVD-Audio. DVD-Audio plays Dolby Digital 5.1 with lossy compression on DVD-Video players. On this player my DVD-Audio discs play 5.1 channels 96kHz/24bit resolution with lossless compression. Compare that to CD 2.0 channels 44.1kHz/16bit. My Beatles Love and Dire Straits Brother's in Arms anniversary edition sound perfect. Vinyl analog lovers don't know what they are talking about. As a video player UBP-X800M2 lacks apps for streaming services, but I have those on my TV. The network video player connects easily to my SiliconDust HDHomeRun connect.

Multi facited player
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Dolby Vision and HDR playbook looks great. Hasn't glitched on any 4k disc. I have a dozen DVD-audio discs that sounded great in high resolution surround. Manually switching to Dolby Vision is a minor inconvenience. Media player off USB worked including dts music files. Interface is like browsing PC folders. All in all I'm happy with the purchase and the jumanji and Spider-Man discs included.

Great Amount of Set-Up Options for Older Equipment
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This player has an incredible amount of settings that you can adjust. If you are using all new modern equipment, reading the user manual may not matter. However, I'm glad I reviewed all the set-up options for my situation, especially for sound. I combined this new Blu-Ray player with a new 2020 Sony A8H TV, but an old school Yamaha RX-V992 (doesn't even have HDMI inputs) and some older (late 1990s) NHT speakers (5.1 system). This unit actually surprised me how fast it loads and begins to play a 4K HDR Blu-ray disc. I haven't had any loading, skipping, or drop out issues while playing. The picture quality to my Sony A8H is excellent. I liked that this unit had a coaxial out feature because that was the only high sound quality input I had remaining to attach to on my old Yamaha. After reading all the sound set-up options in the users manual I was able to get some fantastic sound out of this old audio system playing through the UBP-X800M2. I played the 4K HDR movie Bohemian Rhapsody. The incredible sound coming from my old audio system with Queen playing at Live Aid literally had me sitting there in awe with a little tear forming in the corner of my eye. I couldn't be happier with the sound reproduction out of my old audio system thanks to the many audio set-up features/options of the UBP-X800M2.

Don't buy for Streaming Services
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First I'll start with the Bad/Disapointing/Hard to Explain. Compared to the previous version of Sony UHD BluRay players this player only supports 3 Streaming Apps, so if you have an online Video Library, forget about accessing it from this player. I contacted Sony, to verify this was not part of a future release, and was told in no uncertain terms apps cannot be added to this player (in the future). So the only apps you get are: Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube (paid). No MoviesAnywhere, Vudu, Hulu, UV (going away anyway).... So if you've been collecting titles, and storing UHD in the cloud you wont be able to access them, even though the previous version of this player UBP-X800 had these capabilities. Be fore warned, there is no info in their manual to identify what apps are available (asked Sony about this; no real answers why). So how does it work with UHD 4K discs, most excellent. This is is my second UHD BluRay player, the first with Dolby Vision & Atmos. Now it hard to tell where HDR comes into play and where Dolby Vision come into play. I watched Jumanji (Welcome to the Jungle) on my old player and with the new Sony UBP-X800M2, and there were some "dark" seans that were much more vibrant/decernable on the M2 player. When lighting was bright things were pretty much equivalent with the M2 player having a bit more pop in the colors, but generally hard to differentiate. In the much darker ending it was much easier to see what was moving in the shadows and the shadows seemed to contain more color detail. To some extent this is hard to explain with words, and I tried photographing both to show the difference, but the camera could not capture the subtle differences. Suffice it to say that HDR10 with Dolby Vision does improve picture quality, offering a more real/lifelike picture. Dolby Atmos certainly has improved audio quality. The sound quality from Jumanji was spectacular. I've been collecting 4K UHD Blu-Ray's for a couple of years now (It's all I buy), I probably have 40+ discs, and their production quality does seem to keep improving (can say the same for all the movies). I've been upgrading many of my DVD's to UHD quality via Vudu. Having several hundred Digital Copies in the cloud, I very disappointed I can't access them with this player. The player has better output than anything else I've used/seen. If you don't store you video collection in the cloud, this may not matter to you. It does to me.

Great Value Dolby Vision 4k UHD Player
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before buying, I searched the net for a reputable 4K UHD Blu-ray player WITH Dolby Vision. This model came up onmultiple lists.. Since using I've watched; Ford vs. Ferrari, 1917, John Wick just to name a few. All films looked great. My LG GX actually displayed the Dolby Vision tag and the Atmos audio processing has been great too.

Great all purpose 4k player.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fantastic 4k player with hi res audio capability for my dvd audio and sacd collection. One player that does it all. Dolby Atmos sounds fantastic! I run a Sony 4k tv and it syncs perfectly with this unit. Glad I picked this one up while it was briefly on sale. I’ve got 3 of these for all my locations and need a 4th one but I’ll wait until the price comes down to normal

Amazing
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony x800m2 is a phenomenal unit. Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, HDR10, Bluetooth, 4K, 3D, SACD! Sturdy chassis design to ensure stable disc playback. The two exceptions, not a great streaming device, no front panel display. However picture & sound are INCREDIBLE. Other brands are cheap in comparison, or, they lack features and cost the same $.

Value Universal Disc Player
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this as a backup to my Magnetar 900. So far it plays everything I've tried, including CDs, DVDs, DVD-As, SACDS, Blu-Rays, 4K Blu-Rays, and Blu-Ray Audios. While it is slighly less precise than the Magnetar on music and video upscaling, it's also almost 1/10 the cost. The only big downside is that Dolby Vision must be selected and de-selected manually using the menu system.

As a new purchase so far it work great.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok I owed the Samsung UBH-k8500 which was great in the beginning. Then was having issues with the hdmi 2 port. They sent me another player and after a year the same problem. So I lost having a True Dolby experience. Overall the picture quality was great with that machine. Now my new Sony UBP-x800M2 the Dolby Vision looks fantastic. The only downside is you have to keep turning it off for blu-Rays that are not Dolby Vision. Overall A+.

A good 4k player
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the 4K player to match my av receiver from Sony so far only play regular Blu-rays and it looks beautiful haven't tried 4k blu ray yet I can imagine it look better than regular Blu-ray I only gave it four star because it's not a streaming device I only got three apps and there is no way to download more apps so for streaming its not good go for a Roku or a Nvidia shield pro! Other than that it is a good it is a good 4K player! Highly recommended

Sony UBP-X800M2 4K Blu Ray player
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The player's video quality is excellent, including its upstreaming capability. On the negative side, the audio HDMI output does not work (even after replacing the unit). Fortunately, the coaxial audio output works fine, so it is not an issue, but it is annoying nevertheless. The player is a little bulkier than one would have liked, and is also relatively heavy (which does however help provide stability and presumably reduce jitter.

Great 4k Player With One Hitch
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very good, quality built player with a bare bones front end menu. This player is bigger and heftier than you might expect. The casing feels like metal and with absolutely stay put wherever you set it. The solid build also means it is whisper quiet while playing your movies. The super simple front end may seem plain at first but in today's age of cluttered smart TV/Streaming box interfaces, choke-full of ads it's nice to have so little to sift through in order to just watch a movie. My only gripe is something that has cropped up with 4k Blu-Ray players from several brands. Every now and then while watching a movie the player will come to a complete freeze, with the only remedy being a complete shut down or unplugging the machine altogether. This doesn't happen all the time, but has happened enough times for me to question if my movie watching experience will be hampered every time I insert a disc.

Dollar for dollar best 4K player
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sure there are many 4K players that cost more, but in my opinion the SONY is the best bang for your buck. Separate HDMI outputs so the video can be directly inputted in to your monitor (TV and projector) and the audio can go into your sound system. Increase the bang as Best Buy regularly puts this player on sale. I currently own the older USP-X800 and 2 of the newer USP-X800M2.

Curbside Pickup: Quick and Easy
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased a BluRay Player online and picked up at Milpitas Store. Staff were processing pick ups outside, and they were very friendly and efficient. There was no line and I was back in the car in minutes. The player was simple to set up (HDMI cable to TV, and setup Wi-Fi as well, via the on-screen configuration wizard. Video quality is great.
