This Sony unit upconverts all our DVDs, even enhances the playback! The Bluetooth capabilities area great feature that we haven't fully explored yet.

Would think over the years the size of blu ray players would get smaller but yet Sony brand got bigger. It is also heavy. BUT it does what it is suppose to do and was easy to setup.

The previous non SONY one had trouble with our 10 foot HDMI cable. This SONY has instructions that say be sure the cable is High Speed HDMI at 340 Mhz. I don't know our cable rating but so far so good. We will follow the recommendations if necessary.

Also I could not beat the $100 off for Christmas deal.

The "laser" pointer moves a little too quickly at first but once I got accustomed to the sensitivity of the remote it's made moving from one input to another much easier than I hoped for

Not much to choose from since OPPO and others stop making them. It's a pain having to go into the menu to choose Dolby Vision each time you use it. The Panasonic player have better processors but at a higher price. Get it while it's still available.

Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace a 10-year-old samsung that was freezing at times while streaming. thought a new one with an updated processor might be better. well, this one doesnt freeze, it hardly does anything. it played amazon prime one night then the next would not fire up. once started, it defaults to netflix and nothing will stop it. try to go to home screen and nothing. none of the buttons do anything. shut it off, reboot, and still nothing. will not play thumb drives as it will not even show them as there is no home screen. I have a cheap 60-dollar unit I hooked up and it does exactly what it is supposed to, unlike the 229 dollar one. I had bought 2 of these, 1 for the main media room and 1 for the bedroom and will be returning both.

Firmware updates can improve the functionality and fix performance issues. You can download the latest firmware from the Sony support page:

So far it's been great, but...

It has a nice heavy steel frame. I am only using it with Blu-ray disks, however (not 4K disks). The only reason for the missing star is because of the limited streaming functions. Only the big three are available: Netflix, Amazon Prime & YouTube.

Like the 17" old school standard equipment form factor just like receivers etc. Like the dual HDMI ports. On the negative side; limited to only 3 apps, Amazon Prime, Sony & Netflix. I believe the software update removes apps, but not sure
