This is the first player I’ve had since the 2010s. I have been using my PS4 for bluray movies. I have since upgraded my TV and wanted to get into 4K steelbooks. So i opted to purchase what I have seen as the best bluray player on the market. So far it doesn’t disappoint. Top notch build quality. It connects great to my Sony TV and I can control the TV with the included remote. Love watching 4K content and have not had any issues. Make sure to wipe down your discs with a cloth before and after use.

    Great 4K Player

As usual, Sony equipment works great. (as long as you stay away from their entry-level products) The full-size frame is rigid, which means it stays quiet when playing disc media. The upscaling from DVDs and standard BluRay media to 4K is excellent. The upscaling improvement is really noticeable with old TV shows.

Very good player. I have played several 4K UHD discs since buying this player, and have not had ONE single freeze or glitch, which was common on my previous player. I was going to subtract one star for having to manually enable Dolby Vision per disc, but its so easy to do, I left it at 5.

I owned the original X800 and gifted it to a friend to buy the X800M2. The M2 has Dolby Vision which was not in the X800. Before the silver disc disappear, I needed a backup player that would play all forms of video and music, including, DVD-Audio and SACD. I'm very satisfied with the physical build and output quality of this player.

Really happy with my purchase of the Sony UBP-X800M2! I also have the Sony UBP-X80 which is no slouch either. The only real difference is the X800M2 has Dolby Vision. I noticed the difference right away from HDR. It’s build quality is superb. It weighs more than most 4K Blu-ray players which also helps keep vibrations to a minimum.

    Nice but no Vudu

No doubt a good 4K Player (the x800M2) but no Vudu app & according to Sony, no way to add it. I like Vudu. I have many digital movies & series stored on Vudu. The x800M2 can only stream from Amazon Prime, Netflix & Tube & I don't like any of them. So, I returned the x800M2 & kept my 5 year-old x800 which does have Vudu & a bunch of other apps & took a Star away from this rating.

Has a pretty good picture and was easy to set up. The onscreen instructions were very straight forward. My last Blu-Ray player was a Samsung and I was disappointed when I found out that they discontinued Blu-Ray players but so far I've been very happy with the switch to Sony.

The player is of great quality. It does not feel cheap. I compared the picture and sound quality to my PS5 and Xbox and easily beat them. The only real downside to the player is that you have to manually change/turn off the Dolby digital picture in order to play regular Blu-ray disc. Outside of that there really isn't much of a downside to this player. Music CDs are really good too. It plays all different formats that I threw at it. Overall happy with this purchase.

      Hi RaulJ,

Thank you so much for your kind words. We’re thrilled to hear that you’re enjoying the sound and picture quality in your Sony Blu-Ray player. Your feedback means a lot to us.

Our sincerest apologies for the issues you’ve encountered about the changes that you need to do manually in order to play regular Blu-Ray discs. We understand that it can be inconvenient to manually change that. This is a common requirement for some Blu-ray players, including the UBP-X800M2.
Currently, there is no automatic detection feature for Dolby Vision content on this model. You will need to manually adjust the settings each time you switch between different types of discs to ensure the best playback experience.

We apologize for the inconveniences this caused.

      Sincerely,
      - Stephanie Sony_US

My girlfriend has an extensive blu-ray collection. This unit provides decent picture and enough options to affect quality output without being excessive. It may be me, but has disc playback always been this slow? I recommend a streaming device as opposed to disc players, but it serves it's purpose.

Beautiful 4K picture with strong physical build, but... Often stops in the middle of playback for no reason. Only has Prime and Netflix without ability to add more apps. Have to switch to Dolby Vision mode before starting.

I already omn the Panasonic UB320k but picked up this Sony for our bedroom tv as our old unit didnt support dolby vision and this one does. I was impressed with the image quality and the solid build of this unit. Very well done and works beautifully. Cant really see much difference between my expensive Panasonic and this one, with the one exception of the Sony not supporting auto detection of HDR formats where the Panasonic does. Other 5han that this player is very good quality and I am pleased with it.

I seriously can't believe upscaling in 4k is a thing! Whoever invented it, deserves an immediate entry to heaven! SD content in this player look crazy good almost HD. Can't imagine how well HD DVD looks, I'm impressed and happy I got this dirt cheap.. Blu ray in 1080p also looks almost like 4k in this thing! Don't sleep on it, I did my homework too.

I wanted to upgrade my 4K player, and went with what I know and trust. For me, thats Sony. My television is a 75" Sony 4K. My amp, a Sony 7.2 surround sound. I use Klipsch speakers, and employ 2 subs, along with a center channel, two fronts, two sides, and rear speakers. I noticed the difference immediately. The action is quicker, the 4K picture super sharp, and the sound as good, to me, as a theater. But it starts with my Sony 4K disk player, that feeds everything. Glad that I made the jump.

If you want to see movies in true 4K Ultra HD, this is the DVD to buy, specially if you already have a Sony TV. I bought this to pair up with my new Sony Bravia XR X95J tv. Watching the 'Aquaman 4K Ultra HD Blue-Ray DVD' in 4K Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos was amazing. It was like watching it in the theater all over again.

I have an LG 970 4K Blu-ray player and the Xbox One X's 4K Blu-ray player. Sony's X800M2 knocks all of them out of the park with its crystal clear 4K quality and viscerally thunderous audio capabilities. Plus, it supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision, a laundry list of various formats (everything from MP4 to DVD-ROM to .MOV)

I have never used another 4k bluray player, so I have no idea whether others are noticeably worse than this one - it's possible that this is the pinnacle and I just have expectations that are too high. This thing works fine - sturdy build quality, looks nice, quiet, built-in power supply, installs easily. However, it requires poking around in menus to switch between outputting Dolby Vision and just plain 'ol HDR10. This requires that I closely inspect the box of a 4k bluray and decide which setting I want and choose it before playing. If I forget and start the movie, I have to exit, go to settings, and flip the switch, and then start the movie again. It's a real pain. Aside from that, it's extremely limited as a streaming player - buy this for a dedicated 4k bluray/bluray/DVD/SACD/other random optical media player, not for anything else. I managed to get the remote to control my TCL TV by using a Vizio remote code, so I can change the volume. It does not support CIC to change the volume of a receiver.

Excellent picture when setup properly with your tv. Solid built unit pretty heavy in weight. Has some streaming apps but doesn't include all of them. The Sony tv appears to have more, but you probably would use your tv or streaming device for this anyway. Good price point with features this model offers.
