Maybe the last, best 4K player available.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I owned the original X800 and gifted it to a friend to buy the X800M2. The M2 has Dolby Vision which was not in the X800. Before the silver disc disappear, I needed a backup player that would play all forms of video and music, including, DVD-Audio and SACD. I'm very satisfied with the physical build and output quality of this player.

Blu-Ray Is Worth The Pay
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Has a pretty good picture and was easy to set up. The onscreen instructions were very straight forward. My last Blu-Ray player was a Samsung and I was disappointed when I found out that they discontinued Blu-Ray players but so far I've been very happy with the switch to Sony.

Excellent player
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This player is excellent. The only downside is if you connect the audio directly to a receiver or soundbar there's a slight sync issue, but there's no options in the settings to alter that. Other than that, it's an excellent player with great sound and picture.

Great player, and Dolby Vision is great
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very good player. I have played several 4K UHD discs since buying this player, and have not had ONE single freeze or glitch, which was common on my previous player. I was going to subtract one star for having to manually enable Dolby Vision per disc, but its so easy to do, I left it at 5.

It’s a Beast!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Really happy with my purchase of the Sony UBP-X800M2! I also have the Sony UBP-X80 which is no slouch either. The only real difference is the X800M2 has Dolby Vision. I noticed the difference right away from HDR. It’s build quality is superb. It weighs more than most 4K Blu-ray players which also helps keep vibrations to a minimum.

Nice but no Vudu
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. No doubt a good 4K Player (the x800M2) but no Vudu app & according to Sony, no way to add it. I like Vudu. I have many digital movies & series stored on Vudu. The x800M2 can only stream from Amazon Prime, Netflix & Tube & I don't like any of them. So, I returned the x800M2 & kept my 5 year-old x800 which does have Vudu & a bunch of other apps & took a Star away from this rating.

Quality 4k DVD Player at a Good Price
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We actually was able to find this as an excellent open box for a great price. Hooked it up to our 4k Sony Bravia TV the picture is outstanding. The upscaling is pretty good from regular Blue Rays.

Reliable
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This 4k blu ray player has been the most reliable blu ray player of the several different ones ive owned. The only complaint i have is that you can't add apps to it. It only comes with like 3.

I mean, it's a Sony.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far, so good. Sony products have always been great quality and built to last. Underwhelming amount of apps for streaming, but I'm smart enough to know that's not why I bought a Blu-ray player.

Very happy
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My old Samsung 4K was destroyed by power surge. I bought this Sony to replace it, and I'm much happier. The Sony has some heft to it, and looks nice in the rack. The old Samsung was cheap plastic with a curved front, and vibrated like a washing machine with an unbalanced load when certain discs were played. The Sony gives more information on the source formatting. In every way it is better, for about the same price.

Some caveats
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Beautiful 4K picture with strong physical build, but... Often stops in the middle of playback for no reason. Only has Prime and Netflix without ability to add more apps. Have to switch to Dolby Vision mode before starting.

A step up from x700
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I decided to return my x700 because it kept freezing. Since it was only 50 dollars more I decided to get this one. I am glad I did it is a big step up in terms of picture and sound quality I am amazed. I did not give this a 5 star because it still has an occasional freeze nothing like the x700 though

Solid Built Unit
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent picture when setup properly with your tv. Solid built unit pretty heavy in weight. Has some streaming apps but doesn't include all of them. The Sony tv appears to have more, but you probably would use your tv or streaming device for this anyway. Good price point with features this model offers.

Excellent streaming Ultra HD DVD player.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you want to see movies in true 4K Ultra HD, this is the DVD to buy, specially if you already have a Sony TV. I bought this to pair up with my new Sony Bravia XR X95J tv. Watching the 'Aquaman 4K Ultra HD Blue-Ray DVD' in 4K Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos was amazing. It was like watching it in the theater all over again.

Best 4k player under $300
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I seriously can't believe upscaling in 4k is a thing! Whoever invented it, deserves an immediate entry to heaven! SD content in this player look crazy good almost HD. Can't imagine how well HD DVD looks, I'm impressed and happy I got this dirt cheap.. Blu ray in 1080p also looks almost like 4k in this thing! Don't sleep on it, I did my homework too.

Great 4K Blu-ray player.
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price I love it and I think hard copy is still the best way to watch movies. Price, quality, features and cosmetics are all on point with the price.

High Quality
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This a sturdy, high quality player. A nice metal chassis that feels very premium for such a low price. Has Dolby Vision, a feature i very much wanted and not all players in this price range have. Plays 4k discs, regular Blu-rays, and even DVDs well. Not very loud either, especially compared to my last player.

Best One I Own!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have an LG 970 4K Blu-ray player and the Xbox One X's 4K Blu-ray player. Sony's X800M2 knocks all of them out of the park with its crystal clear 4K quality and viscerally thunderous audio capabilities. Plus, it supports both HDR10 and Dolby Vision, a laundry list of various formats (everything from MP4 to DVD-ROM to .MOV)

It works fine? Frustrating UI
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have never used another 4k bluray player, so I have no idea whether others are noticeably worse than this one - it's possible that this is the pinnacle and I just have expectations that are too high. This thing works fine - sturdy build quality, looks nice, quiet, built-in power supply, installs easily. However, it requires poking around in menus to switch between outputting Dolby Vision and just plain 'ol HDR10. This requires that I closely inspect the box of a 4k bluray and decide which setting I want and choose it before playing. If I forget and start the movie, I have to exit, go to settings, and flip the switch, and then start the movie again. It's a real pain. Aside from that, it's extremely limited as a streaming player - buy this for a dedicated 4k bluray/bluray/DVD/SACD/other random optical media player, not for anything else. I managed to get the remote to control my TCL TV by using a Vizio remote code, so I can change the volume. It does not support CIC to change the volume of a receiver.

||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worth every cent! I'm fainally maximizing the full potential of my TV's capabilities. This player delivers like no other, the response time is perfect, the intergration is easy, the picure and sound are stunnimg compared to its competitors. It got simple software and is super easy to navigate. Well worth the price!
