Sony X800M2 review
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After settling between this player and the Panasonic ub820 I settled for this for two reasons. The Sony was $150 cheaper and did all the reviews highly rate this player. I didn't want to much ability to play with the HDR like the Panasonic offers. Sony does a good job with that and sometimes less is more for me. But the one negative is that Dolby vision needs to be turned on or off based on the disc. It's annoying and it should auto detect it. Other then that I highly recommend it. Nearly silent operation and the picture and sound is excellent. It plays nice with my Bravia TV for best picture settings automatically. With the exception of Dolby vision. 5 star product IF it was able to auto detect Dolby vision

Sony 4K Player as it should be, fantastic!
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an excellent example of what a 4K BluRay player should be. Sony is 1/2 of my bedroom theater: a Sony 50" 4K TV and this 4K Player. Easy to set up, easy to use. I purchased the extended warranty for peace of mind. I am extremely pleased with Sony's 4K Player!

All that you need!
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the previous model, which is almost exactly same - except dolby vision. I preferred to have dv than not, since my tv supports it. On some discs, it makes stronger enhancement than hdr. DV or not, for 4k, this is great. For blu-ray playback - it is perfect, if not better looking than a blu-ray player.

Super 4K Ultra HD W/Hi-Res Audio Blu-Ray Player
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony - UBP-X800M2 at $299.99, is by far the best 4K Ultra Blu-Ray Player that I have ever owned! The day before, I purchased a Panasonic DP-UB820 at $499.99, which was the worst 4K Ultra Blu-Ray Player that I have ever owned and I returned it within 24 hours. I am not going into the details on why it was the worst because I rated it and you can read that. The Sony - UBP-X800M2 has a true 3840x2160 Resolution, with a crystal-clear picture, supporting 4K HDR and DOLBY VISION, plus great sound with DTS:X and Dolby Atoms. Some people were listing the lack of streaming apps. Its purpose is to play 4K and below DVDs. My TV has all of the apps that I want and my Roku Ultra Streaming player has all of the apps that I want. So, I don’t need a third streaming video device. Some folks were also complaining about it weighing, 8.4 pounds. This is a strong quality devise, that does not flex when you touch it. The extra strength makes it more durable. I don’t why anyone would complain about that. Once again, a GRAET 4K Ultra Blu-Ray Player! I would recommend this to anyone that wants a great 4K video picture.

What a difference
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Didn't believe this player would make a difference in sound quality but it did. Compared to a 3 year old Samsung bluray player, I noticed the sound is clearer and has more bass...punch to it. The upscaling does a good job too, but didn't have a chance to do A/B test to see whether the Sony is much better than the Samsung.

Awesome player
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently was using a Samsung 4K player and the switch to this Sony 4K player was definitely worth it. My Sony tv has Dolby Vision and this player just compliments my movie watching experience. I highly recommend this Sony 4K blu ray player. Easy to use and awesome to watch movies and stream. Thanks Best Buy you’re the best.

Excellent Bluray
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far so good. No negative issues. Audio quality and Video resolution is excellent. I am running this through a Yamaha RX-V685 receiver that is Dolby Vision compatible and then the Sony - 55" Class - LED - X950G. Further research on my part is needed to determine how to set the Sony TV and Blu-ray in order to correctly upscale 1080 HD to 4K. Overall, very happy with this purchase.

Very good and simple 4k HD unit
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was purchased to go with a new 4K tv. It is a compact unit that is like most players being easy to use and supports all the different formats from ultra HD down to a standard DVD. The picture output is good and the picture it produced on the TV was outstanding. We think it is a great unit.

Complements my Sony Bravia 4ktv
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony 4K bluray player is an excellent addition to my Sony Bravia tv. You can play regular dvd and upscale is great. Plays cds and USB’s. Easy to connect and setup plus fits nicely under my tv. Size is a little bigger than most bluray players and has so many features.

Good Player
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far this is a good player and it has been reliable. Not all Sony products have been reliable in the past. The picture quality is good and meets expectations. The operation is run through the TV, so you cannot operate it independently from the TV. One downside is that you have to manually select between Dolby or DTS. This should be automatic and one of the reasons I did not give it 5 stars. A second downside is there is no analog audio output. This is supposed to function like a CD player, but you cannot hook it up to a stereo. Everything has to go through the TV. Another strike. Yet another issue is frame rate. Movie DVDs are at 24fps and most modern TVs have frame rate compatibility issues. This is an industry problem that needs to be solved. But it is more of a problem with the TVs than it is the player.

Perfect
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded my home theater receiver to a unit that accepts the HDMI interface. However the Panasonic DVD-Audio had the choice of 6 discreet RCA outputs or a digital coax output. Had to use the digital coax cable with the new Onkyo receiver. This never sounded right playing DVD-Audio through digital coax. So my collection of disks collected dust. I then heard the Sony UBP-X800M2 played DVD-Audio disks and got one ASAP. I am more than happy with this unit. 4K, Bluray, DVD, CD, DVD-Audio, SACD all play perfectly. OMG! The sound is so great, 96 khz 24bit 5.1 surround sound! I bought this just for the DVD-Audio but it plays everything I threw at it beautifully! I cried hearing my DVD-Audio disks again as they were meant to be heard, wow!

Buy only if you need SACD and DVD-Audio support
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this player because my Panasonic DP-UB820 does not support either SACD and DVD-Audio disks. (Years ago, I had an Oppo Blu-ray player that supported these formats, but the Oppo players were discontinued.) The picture quality of the Sony is excellent for 4K UHD disks (assuming it doesn't freeze up), but the picture quality isn't great for standard Blu-rays or DVDs; the Panasonic is much better in terms of picture quality, More concerning is that the Sony will sometimes freeze up on certain disks. This happened with the 4K edition of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. It played fine on the Panasonic. A big issue for me is that the Sony player doesn't have any sort of display so you can't see how much time has elapsed on a disk, what track of a CD you are on, etc. There is a Display button on the remote to show this information when playing a video disk, but it is annoying because the information blocks a significant portion of the screen. If you want to play a CD, you pretty much have to keep the TV turned on. The Sony does a good job of playing SACDs and DVD-Audio disks. I have the player plugged into an external DAC via the coaxial digital output. If you don't have any SACDs or DVD-Audio disks, I would definitely recommend a Panasonic model instead.

Slightly Buggy Setup, Great Ever Since
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been very happy with this in terms of great picture and multiformat compatibility and have been using it heavily every since I purchased it. I will say that when I first set it up, it could not read any of the media I tried to load and I went through the standard buyers remorse of having purchased a pretty expensive brick. As soon as I reset it, everything worked fine, but I'm docking a star for giving me an aneurism upon first attempted use.

Universal Player
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Only 3 streaming options, Netflix, Prime and Youtube. No analog outlets but it sounds great on my SACD's, better than the older Pioneer Elite unit it replaces. I like that it upsamples everything to 4K. It does a lot, some of it is too complicated for me which leaves me wondering if I am using it right all the time or if I am getting everything out of it it can do.

Love the combination of this player and Sony A95L
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm using this player with a Sony A95L OLED TV and a relatively old Yamaha receiver and HDMI return channel, and am impressed with the level of integration. I can use the tv remote to control everything except opening and closing the player drawer. The upscaling of old blu-rays to 4K is impressive. Note: both the player and the TV have similar upscaling capabilities - I can't tell the difference. I've watch Oppenheimer in 4K on it, and the level of detail is great! I'm looking forward to trying the player with a lesser system that has an LG 43" 4K monitor (not a tv).

Awesome quality picture!
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This 4K Blu-ray player is fantastic! I bought it to go with my new 4K Vizio television. The quality and the clarity of the picture is amazing. I love that all I have to do to play a movie is insert the disc and press play. It turns on the player and the television system.

Great machine
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an amazing disc player. its solidly built and plays literally any disc you put in it. The 4k is beautiful and the enhancing of bluray makes it almost look like 4k. And it also has Dolby Vision. Totally recommended.
