Excellent upgrade to prime video
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Monitor is a Samsung Q80 2019 This player pushes the resolution to 3480 x 2160, Watching older movies on Prime Video is a remarkable upgrade. Both Sherlock Holmes Dressed to Kill and Miracal on 34th Street show greater resolution. Audio output via HDM2 to a my Yamaha Rx-a830 provides excellent 5.1 / 7.1 audio fidelity. Very pleased!!

Pretty good 4K Quality If your on a budget
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very good but misses the mark when It comes to HDR support and sound support. The player has very limited sound support unlike the Panasonic 4K blu ray player 820 unit.

Do not buy this.
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would not buy this. Skips all the time while trying to play 4K discs. Maybe I got unlucky, but I believe this is a known issue. I thought I had bad discs for awhile until I realized every one of them was skipping and freezing. Do not recommend.

Continually Locks Up
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased new and connected to a new A90J using HDMI 2.1 cables, and for every 4K disc, I have played locks up! This includes brand new discs and old ones. I even cleaned each disc just in case but no luck. It seems like a memory issue and occurs about an hour into each disc. You can stop playback and return, and it looks fine, but I have also noticed chapter selection will not work in many cases, and the "Resume" feature often is not working? I purchased this unit thinking my A90J remote would control this player, but it doesn't, so you have to use the weak non-lit Sony remote. It does have better Bluetooth sound output when connected to a Sony headset, but I can do the same thing using my A90J work. I am only using this unit to play 4K discs and do not need it for streaming. I do all streaming through the A90J. I am not sure what options are left, but I wanted a dedicated player instead of a gaming console to get better picture quality.

Nice player
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced an older Sony with this. The 4K movies have frozen up some times but I haven’t had trouble since the first couple and those were new also. I ran a laser cleaner disc and haven’t had any issues since. It’s more expensive than the last model and the picture is the same.

||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this unit in September of 2023. On Feb. 2024 this unit did EXACTLY what the old one did. It STOPPED working. It will not read any discs or display the home screen. I have to unplug it to shut it off. SAD SONY.

Outstanding....
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony UBP-X800M2 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player is pretty amazing and is easily set up in less than 10 minutes. Less than 2 minutes if all of the settings are set to AUTO. There are 2 HDMI inputs. Sony kept things simple by blocking HDMI 2, to prevent mistakes. Just one of many "nice touches" on this unit. My primary 4k bluray is by OPPO, which arguably is the industry standard, and I tested 2 flix, JUMANJI and The Avengers INFINITY WAR. My tv is a SONY A8F. I say this not to brag but hopefully this will give some credence to this overview. OK. On full daylight scenes no desernable difference at all. Beautiful crisp picture with zero artifacting. But the real test is on darker scenes. That's where we separate the wheat from the chaff. I was incredibly pleased with the Sony UBP-X800M2 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player. The detail in the darker areas was spectacular. Amazing detail and no fuzziness. Did it compare to my thousand dollar OPPO? YES IT DID. The loading time was a tad faster as a matter of fact. There was zero jitter, and even on pause the picture was outstanding. From DTS to Dolby Vision this unit did not disappoint. There are 2 things I wish SONY would consider. 1- An illuminated remote 2- More than 3 streaming options and the means to add more would be nice. A final nice touch by SONY were the 2 4k bluray films that they included. There is no front display and that's fine by me. Who can read those teeny tiny numbers from across the room anyway. If you have a 4k rig at home the Sony UBP-X800M2 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player is the perfect addition. Cheers y'all.

No better than 1080p
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had A Sony 1080p Blu-ray player and upgraded to this and about the same picture. Perhaps it’s my upscaling epson 4K projector but not a huge difference in picture quality.

Faulty player crashes while playing longer movies.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this in 2022 and I regret it completely. It is faulty and crashes about halfway through while I'm playing any longer movie or older movie with lots of film grain.

BT. -Control content w/intuitive memory & interface. Basics: -Turn On. -Plug in HDMI cable. -Follow onscreen instruction guide to connect to internet. -Choose either wired ethernet connection or your Wi-Fi network. Supports dual band MIMO tech for a strong signal. -Run new network software update (takes a few mins. to complete). -Go to Home screen. -Choose streaming apps: Netflix, Amazon Prime, or YouTube. -For Dolby Vision (DV): Go to Screen Settings/DV Output & toggle on. Settings: -Sony Bravia Mode: Turn off if not using a Sony Bravia TV -HDR Output: Set to Auto to allow HDR content to your display. HDR10 signal contains up to 100x brightness of SDR. -Dolby Vision (DV): Turn on for DV content & off for 3D content. DV & 3D can’t be on at once. If you turn on DV, then 3D functionality is lost & vice-versa. -Output Resolution: Set to Auto for highest applicable resolution -24p Output: Set to Auto so player adjusts to disc. -4K Upscaling: Set to Auto & player will enhance lower resolution discs to UHD quality. -Display Type: Choose between TV & projector. Pros: -Instant On: Press the remote’s power button & the TV/Blu-ray player are turned on instantly. The player takes you right into main menu w/o annoying delay/bootup sequence. App response is quick: if you press remote’s Netflix button, it boots directly into Netflix, a big timesaver. -Disc Loading: Quieter & quicker vs. previous models -GUI (Graphical User Interface): The new simpler streamlined menu & better overall organization of onscreen info (incl. updated icons/color palette) were sorely needed & long overdue improvements to past clutter/clunky software. -DV (Dolby Vision): Significantly improves UHD picture quality w/better contrast & brighter hotspots, making images more vivid, lifelike, & immersive; comparable to big screen theatre. Black scenes are inky, darker scenes have greater definition/detail w/o fuzziness, & brightly lit scenes have more pop/color without banding/artifacts. -3D: Picture quality is amazing: no screen tearing, artifacts, slowness, delays, freezing, or color saturation. -4K Upscaling: When viewing std. HD (std. Blu-ray, std. Netflix, etc.), upscaling does a super job. Crisp images make every movie we've watched look better than ever before. -Dolby Atmos: Treats sounds as separate objects, releasing them from typical channels to move freely around & above for immersive surround sound. The exceptional audio quality shines w/crisp playback during Jumanji soundtrack, incl. stronger thumps from Sony subwoofer & cleaner sound across frequency spectrum of Sony speaker system. -DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) HX: Upscales frequency/dynamic range of MP3s, AACs (Advanced Audio Coding), & other compressed music files (incl. CDs) to near hi-res sound quality to emulate original recording. Cons: -Auto-Detection: No Dolby Vision (DV) or HDR10 auto-detection, which is annoying/cumbersome. Because player can’t auto-switch between DV & HDR10, based on content source, user must manually enter main menu to turn DV on for DV 4K disc & turn off after finishing disc. -Limited Streaming Apps: Not practical as main all-in-1 media player w/only 3 streaming apps (Netflix, Prime, YouTube) vs. prior Sony disc players. And no option to add streaming apps like Hulu, Vudu, Pandora, etc. -Storage: If any of your AV library is stored in the cloud, you’ll be unable to access your online content w/this player. -Dolby Atmos: Player lacks Atmos on Netflix, Amazon Prime, & YouTube vs. other players. Apps need to be updated. -HDR10+: Doesn’t support Samsung competitor’s HDR10+. -No Optical Port -Remote: Needs backlighting, especially when user is in dark home theater mode & player has no LED display. -Freezing: This player is prone to lockups/freezing, same as my previous Sony BDP-7200 Smart 3D Wi-Fi Blu-ray Player (w/UHD 4K Upscaling). When this occurs, the player can’t be turned off even via the power button. You’re forced to completely unplug & wait before plugging back in. This annoying, time-wasting delay has plagued multiple Sony Blu-ray players for yrs. & has still not be fixed.
