The Sony UBP-X800M2 produces bright, detailed images on our UHD TV, not only from 4K discs but also in up-converted material on lesser discs. The sound quality is excellent when playing CDs or SACDs. Wish that the remote were backlighted but, for the price of this sturdy-feeling unit and its level of performance, I shouldn't complain.

Same as UBP-X800 @ no real improvement ___ (only negative = Dvd sales are dropped @ online only = some stores wanting 3x retail) ___ DSEE and image upscaling is near perfect (4:3 @ 480 80s tv shows look upgraded to 720) ____used with SONY (A90K, xbr800G, Straz3000es, Sony soundbars) ____ due to fully sony setup all Tv and audio features works via whichever remote

This Blu-ray player is more expensive than the X700 but after owning both of them there is no comparison. The X800 blows it away in terms of build quality. Just a much nicer player all the way around.

The only reason I selected 3 stars is because I just installed this unit. I will fill out a more complete review after I've watched a few movies on this machine. This was an upgrade from the UBP-X800 Blu-Ray player I have owned for a couple of years because the M2 supports DOLBY VISION. I have just installed it and have watched a couple of partial movies on it. So far so good. Two concerns come to mind. First, I ordered the unit online for in-store pick up at my local Best Buy. I was told in the ordering process that I would receive an email telling me when it was ready for pick up. This DID NOT HAPPEN!!! I phoned the store the next day, and I had to endure about a 15 minute wait before I was able to talk with somebody. They said, oh yeah, it's available for pick up now. Not happy with that. Secondly, I was extremely disappointed at the VERY limited options for streaming....totally different from the previous unit. I have no clue why SONY would do such a thing. All this being said, because of two years of great experience with the pre-M2 model, I anticipate excellent viewing performance with this M2. I will add to this review in a few weeks after I have had an opportunity to watch a few Blu-Ray 4K movies on this machine. In the meantime, Best Buy, you really need to back up what you say you will do, or don't say it.

I wanted to love this player. It looks great, feels solid and runs virtually silent. Played everything I tossed in and looked and sounded very good ie; DVD/BR/SACD/DVDA and 4K. Now for my issues.... *Interface was a little clunky and sluggish. *WiFi was effectively disabled and unrecoverable after startup firmware update (from v46 to v50) *4K playback froze once about 15 minutes into Spider-verse required restart. *Was unable to play any of the streaming apps due to WiFi issue above did not attempt hard wiring (Nor should I have to) *Dark Side of the Moon Blu ray had audio drop-outs 6 times by track 5. Played fine with same cable on my normal BR player. *DVD-A Disc of Queen-The Game had several audio/visual drop- outs, no issues with same cables on old equipment. *DVD Eagles-Farewell 1 audio/video drop-out during starting menus. My HDMI cables are way above average mediabridge which have never given me issues with any sources (Xbox1x, Yamaha DVDA/Sacd and PS3 as my main BR/Streamer) TV is a Sony x900f. I thought I'd roll the dice, despite many reviewers describing similar issues but rolled snake eyes this time around. Going to start saving for the entry level Pioneer BR/SACD/DVDA player. All 4k players are region free it is dvds and blu rays that are coded. But because this plays 4k you will be able to watch blu rays and dvds from other countries on this. I know this because I recently purchased a blu ray that was from Finland because the movie has never been available on blu ray in the US and it plays fine. Many years ago I purchased a dvd and upon receiving it was on the PAL system from England. I thought it was a wasted purchase, but that plays on this player. It is a region free player.

Excellent sound and video capabilities. I purchased this mainly for the audio capabilities in particular the sacd and DVD audio. So far I'm very happy with what I'm hearing.

I just replaced my 40” Samsung smart tv (at least 8 years old) with a new one. Quite an improvement in that time. Great picture and am much happier with the leg support being on the ends instead of the center! Great tv and superb quality!

Video quality is excellent. It has more features than I need but I got it for the enhanced audio and video.

Fine player that does everything well. One caution though is to make sure you have good 4K capable cables otherwise the automatic setup will not work properly.

One of the best 4K player that i ever had picture quality are amazing even though if u r watching blue ray video it enhance the video clear like ur watching 4movie. A little expensive compare to some other brand but its worth it with your money go buy for it.

Very easy to hook up. Produces a nice picture. Works just like we expected

Picture and Sound are excellent. Works as advertised. Can’t download apps.

Works well during my first month of owning this, glad i only need one remote as my tv and soundbar are also Sony products

Awesome 4k player. Also plays dvd, blu ray, and 3d bluray. Has internet connection, easy to use, this player does it all. Very happy with this player

Picture quality is great weather you are streaming or playing DVDs

Excellent, no issues. Easy to use. I do wish that a version could be made in a vertical design similar to the ps5.
