Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the outstanding picture quality, frequently praising its 4K capabilities, Dolby Vision support, and effective upscaling. They also appreciate its ease of use and good value. However, some customers express concerns regarding its reliability and the fact that it is not a streaming device. Other minor drawbacks include the absence of a display and its slightly larger size.

Very high quality Blu-Ray and DVD player. Improves the display quality of my DVD's. Works quietly and smoothly and has solid chassis. Gives a very good picture and has lots of features like Dolby-Vision. I am impressed with this products performance.

Have had several Sony players over the years. They have all done a great job & this is no exception. Upgraded to Sony 4K player from an unreliable Phillips. Sony's was easy to install, easy to use & gives a great picture. Also upgrades new software - you guessed it - easy! Recommended.

Great 4K UHD player for Sony TV owners

I chose this over the less expensive Sony UBP-X700 for the build quality. This player is built like a tank - metal case and full-rack length. It's pretty heavy. I expected that the solid housing would mean quieter playback and wasn't disappointed. 4K UHD discs can spin fast but I haven't noticed any sound other than when exiting main menu to movie playback. No front display but I have player in a closed media stand with louvered doors. As a 2019 Sony OLED owner, I usually leave the player in Bravia mode - which allows the TV's processing to do it's thing. Only reason I docked the player one star was the need to enter settings to manually enable Dolby Vision decoding for discs that support it. You have to remember to disable it after watching DV content to avoid applying DV processing to HDR10 discs. From what I've read, Panasonic & LG players do this automatically.

Video and audio quality look great. Would be nice if the remote was backlit, but it's been very nice overall and can't really complain. Has a lot of features for audio and pretty heavy compared to previous Blu ray players I've used.

Excellent player. Good build quality and ease of use. The only negative is that you have to manually turn on dolby vision if the 4k disc supports it. If the 4k disc only has HDR 10 then make sure dolby vision is turned off in the settings.

This is my 3rd Sony Blu-ray player for 4k playback on 3 different 4K TV setups. Works great. Easy to setup and use. Quality Vidio and sound. I have had no issues over the past 10?years of use. Price on sale was a great value.

Not a fair review, only used this nice looking device once so far. I will say the setup is easy, could only be simpler if someone else set it up for me. Plug in, enter password for wireless, connects right up quickly. I have watched one 4K movie, so far, to see how it worked, no issues, inserted disk, a few seconds later the promps popped up to start the movie. If this device last the years my Sony Blu-Ray player has lasted, and still going, it will be worth the price. All this Google stuff I am not sure about, don't trust Google, but maybe I'll peak at as long as I can clip its wings.

I loved the Sony ubp x800 and this upgraded version is even better. Great 3D..great picture..and the added bonus of being able to listen through the TV speakers and bluetooth headphones at the same time was a seller for me. The other was Dolby Vision..I highly recommend this player.

A good player overall with great picture quality. The feature set is in line with the price. This is my second 800M2 so I liked it enough to buy another one but I do have a few issues with it. First, the inability to turn off Energy saver mode is annoying and many disks don't have a resume feature. I could see it shutting off when stopped, but not paused. I had to program my control system to automatically send a command every 5 minutes to keep the player on. In the vein of control, Sony no longer makes an integration-friendly player after discontinuing the 1100, and IP control of the 800 via anything other than the app remains elusive. That means an IR repeater is necessary. However, the IR window is on the door sand getting an IR repeater to stick to the moving door (most of the front panel opens) is a bit of a challenge. I realize most users simply play disks and use the remote control, but I wanted to point out the issues for those who want to incorporate it into a control system. Sony needs to offer a higher-end unit with RS-232 and IP control.

UBPX800M2 - Disable Networking for the best experi

Fantastic build quality - at home in a Home Theater rack mount, or on a shelf in a console. My only complaint is that for 100% stability during playback of 4k movies, you can NOT be connected to any network. There is some issue - either due to heat or firmware instability - where if you have any networking enabled (wired or wireless) you will experience playback issues with 4k discs (the whole point of owning this device. Once you disable networking, which shouldn't be an issue if you're buying a disc player in 2020, you will be treated to a fantastic playback experience. I love how quiet this player is and how many different formats it is compatible with.

The Sony -UBO-X800M2 - Streaming 4K Ultra HD Hi-Res Audio WiFi Built-In Blu-Ray player (Black) is easy to both set-up and use. This Blu-Ray player up-scales ordinary DVD's and ordinary Blu-Ray DVD's very nicely.

decided to collect physical media and this is my first player! plays everything beautifully and makes lower quality things hi res so you don’t have to buy the 4k version. although buying 4k movies would be THAT much better it does everything it needs

4K video player is very easy to use and videos look amazing. 4K UHD discs look fantastic of course, but even Blueray and DVD discs look amazing. The player does a fantastic job of upscaling to 4K. Older Bluerays and DVDs look better than ever.

Players may not be used as much as we use to with streaming being more prevalent. These updated devices still come in handy for the Blu-ray and 4K archive just make sure you update your HDMI cable to enjoy the visual and audio quality you expect.

Pros: Excellent picture. Syncs with Sony A9G 77in. TV Cons: Dolby Vision must be set manually. (I leave it on by default and turn it off for discs that do not support it. Must be connected to TV and audio sent by ARC or second HDMI out to receiver.

The UBPX800M2 had everything I needed, 4K, 3D, DVD-A. It replaced my Samsung UBDK8500 which was great but didn't handshake well for 3D. But the real star was Best Buy. I noticed some odd artifacts in blu-ray discs, and it took a while to figure out that it wasn't a setting, or my receiver, or TV. I took the unit back to Best Buy a couple months later, and they replaced it - no questions asked. The new unit is perfect - no artifacts. Thanks Best Buy! ps: They had the best price too...
