SONY: An excellent choice
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SONY is the one and only....their line of A/V equipment is always at the top of any list for quality. When I paired this 4K BluRay player with my Sony - 55" Class X900H Series LED 4K UHD Smart Android TV, it was a match made in Heaven. I also set it up with my older Sony A/V receiver and have simplified my remote as well. This is an excellent choice for anyone wanting to upgrade to a 4K BluRay player.

Locks up about 15 minutes into the every movie.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture is good on this player but it locks up about 15 minutes into every movie, blue ray or 4K. The only way to get it back is to unplug it. I have the UBP-X800M also and it did the same thing but not as bad. Also no sound when trying to watch YouTube. I should have taken it back but I have had it for about two months and Best Buy may not take it back. I don’t know if Sony knows this is going on or if they care. Sony support is not that good when contacting them about other problems I’ve had.

Perfect 4K player...
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I originally purchased the LG UBK90 because at the time it was the only reasonably priced player with Dolby Vision...kept freezing up and jumping frames...I took it back to Best Buy and got a replacement...same issues so I took the second one back and I saw Sony had a new player(UBP-X800M2) that supported Dolby Vision and HDR 10...I took this as a replacement and it lived up to Sony expectations...Great player with no issues...I am very pleased with this unit...only 3 apps, but I have all the apps I need on my TV...

Replacement is better than Original
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit was a replacement for a previous Sony UBP-X800 DVD Player. This unit has a much easier functionality compared to the previous model. This model is ready to run a DVD as soon as it powers up. The previous model you had to wait for it to cycle through seeing if there was a DVD. The previous model died after 2 years. I purchased the 4 year buyer protection on this unit. Hopefully i will not need it, but if it dies it will be Best Buys problem.

4K From old DVD's
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was amazed to see an old standard DVD coming up as 4K and 60 Hz on my 77" TV. This is by far my best Blu-Ray player.

Posted .Hi JimC. It's great to hear that you are happy and amazed by your DVD player capabilities!. If your TV supports enhanced HDMI formats and upscaling settings, this could explain the improved viewing experience you are witnessing. Thanks for choosing Sony. -Milton

Great 4k Bluray player.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This replaced a X800 that won't power up after 8 months. This is a newer version of that player. I am hoping this one lasts longer but just in case i sprung for the extended warranty. It does perform as a higher end player should. I also have an LG 4k player and the Sony does look like a high end player in comparison.

Value 4K Blu-Ray Player with a Few Weaknesses
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As someone from Asia, I have always been a Sony brand loyalist, so when I decided to sell my Xbox One S and get a real 4K UHD blu-ray player, Sony was my first choice. At the time, I set my budget between $300 and $400, and wanted a player that can support Dolby Vision, which made this Sony player the only one in range. Well, let's talk about Dolby Vision. Yes, it does support it, BUT this player has yet to know how to turn it on automatically. For example, if you leave the Dolby Vision setting on, it will play SDR content in Dolby Vision whether you like it or not. Therefore, if you want to play a regular blu-ray disc, you will have to go back to the settings, and turn Dolby Vision off. Annoying, right? Within the first week of use, it showed another 2 weaknesses. I'm proud of my blu-ray collections, and I take good care of my discs, so I was initially shocked by the fact that quite a few of my 4K UHD blu-ray discs would skip or even freeze during playback; same thing happened today when I was playing the new 4K UHD release of Mulholland Drive by Criterion Collection! Then, I realized there wasn't anything wrong with the discs: the player simply has a hard time switching between information layers when reading a 4K UHD blu-ray disc, which normally has multiple layers. Granted, my Xbox One S used to have the same issue with some discs as well, but it happened way more frequently on this player, which ironically is after all a dedicated 4K UHD player. The last problem I have with this player should be a software problem, and could be the only problem that I may not be able to blame it on the player alone. My setup for the player is to have it connected to my Sony sound bar, and the sound bar is connected to the TV. I don't know how exactly to cause the issue to happen, but sometimes the player would just stop sending sound signal to the sound bar between playbacks of different discs. The only way to fix it so far is either for me to unplug everything for more than 10 minutes, and then put everything back together, or to connect the player to the TV directly, and depend on eArc to send the sound signal to the sound bar. (It almost seems like the issue is caused by miscommunications among softwares of the TV, the sound bar, and the player.) I didn't like the latter setup because my TV can't do eArc well enough, and I can hear dropouts here and there. Therefore, if you're a home theater enthusiast like me, then this player really isn't a great choice.

Great 4k player
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works very good. Bought this to replace my xbox one s. The xbox was not playing certain 4k discs. The player works great, the movies sound better. The only thing I would have to nit pick is, when playing Dolby Vision content, you have to exit the movie go into the menu and manually turn on Dolby Vision. Then when you are going to watch something other than Dolby Vision content, you have to make sure Dolby Vsion is turned off otherwise the picture brightness is overblown.
