Much better than the lesser 700 model. Heavy quality construction. Haven't tried all the audio discs this thing can play but optimistic. So far great with 4k surround system. Kinda wish it had a display on front.

I recently purchased a second unit when my dedicated 3D Blu-ray player stopped working from 2010. With onboard support for niche formats I use like 3D Blu-Ray, SACD and DVD-Audio, these format players are getting harder to find so it will be nice to have a "back up" should my main unit go down in the future. As mentioned in my title, no front display so everything is on the TV screen. If you use for CDs and SACDs like I do, I would probably not pair with an OLED display as the menus stay on screen in a fixed position the whole time you are listening to music so there is a high risk of burn-in. I don't know if there is an option to turn on the on-screen display but I have it connected to a LCD panel. Once I got use to having all menus on the TV, I actually like it and can read it better from across the room. I have always picked up my players when they are on sale for $250 (80 off regular price) but others have said 199 is possible on bigger sales like black Friday, etc. Even at full price, having a player which will play every optical disc format for video and audio it is still a deal to me. Thank you Sony for making this wonderful player in the age of streaming and digital entertainment!

Great upscaling, solid build, Dolby Vision and Atmos makes this a perfect compliment for any 4K TV. The only downside I can see is a lack of a Optical audio output my older AV receiver. A Best Buy for me! ; )

The Sony UBP-X800M2 4K UHD Bly-ray player is a very good buy. It met all my expectations. It plays all my disk in my collection. I was upgrading from a Samsung unit and wanted Dolby Vision. And what a difference it makes with Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos. Picture is much better then the Samsung unit. As everyone else stated, the only one minus is you have to manually switch to Dolby Vision. To do that automatically, you have to spend twice as much on a Panasonic model. Everything else about this model is great.

This is a really good 4k Bluray player. It does everything i need it to do. It works well with my tv and my Samsung q990c sound system. Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos work perfectly (though i had to figute out some seting changes to get everything to work)

Limited streaming apps. A big reason I bought this one was for internet streaming services as well as bluray. It's for the "other" TV that's a bit older and doesn't have builtin streaming services. Unfortunately it only supports Netflix, Amazon, and Youtube (which I don't use). NOT Hulu or HBO. And probably never will. Picture looks good on blurays, but doesn't meet my needs.

I love this product. Its fast and plays bluray discs with precision. It has impeccable quality for the price. I looked at many different players and read countless reviews and Im glad I chose this one. My main purpose for this particular purchase of this player was that it can handle both dolby vision and dolby atmos. Its a perfect addition to my personal Sony tech lineup with my 85in sony tv w/ imax visual settings and my ps5

This is my second X800M2; the first one died after 2 years (be smart and purchase the extended GS warranty with this). Great audio and video quality from this player - it can't be beat for the price ! I set the upscaling to 4K and all my MP4s, Blurays and DVDs look great in 4K. HDR and DolbyVision are amazing. Both players have crashed every 2-3 weeks and require unplugging and then re-connecting to the wireless network. Be sure to have easy access to to the power cable ! Only three apps for this unit , but I only use 2, so that's fine. Set up is intuitive and east to understand. Don't worry about manually turning off/on DV, it's easy to do.

Thank you for the review, Kaudioman!

We’re thrilled you’re enjoying the premium picture and sound of your UBP-X800M2! Regarding your Nikon Z8 files, while the player supports many MP4 formats, professional camera codecs can sometimes be a bit tricky.

We’d love to help you get those videos playing—please reach out to our support team here so we can look into a solution and hopefully earn that 5th star!

      Thank you for choosing Sony!

looking to upgrade from older technology to newer is always a hassle, ie Component to HDMI connectors, HDMI 1.1 to 1.4 etc. What is great about this player is it has two HDMI outputs, which can be setup to route audio to one and video to the other. Whatever you situation, HTR cannot process 4K of do not want the amplifier to process video, direct connect to TV, projector, etc, this player allow the flexibility to do this until your ready to upgrade or separate audio and video. The player is a great HDR player and works well with an Epson projector and Yamaha HTR (separate connections) and the price point is not a killer.

I bought this player because it includes Dolby Vision HDR which provides a significant improvement in picture quality to my 4K UHD Blu-ray disks. I like that it adds Dolby Vision to pictures that did not include this in the original program content. A minor issue is that for video streaming, the player only includes apps for Netflix and two other services for which I am not a current subscriber. Neither the owners manual nor the Sony website provide useful information for subscribing to a different service.

My expensive Oppo ceased playing blurays after just six years, even with multiple interior cleanings. It was time for a new one and despite not having a 4K tv yet, I knew I had to go with a Sony player. I am blown away by this one. I feel like the Oppo was actually holding back my home theater set up. The sound was immediately more powerful and livelier. The picture quality stunned, too. The colors are more vibrant and the details are sharper than they were before, by far. Netflix on it is amazing. The Animals docuseries almost hurt my eyes, the detail was so incredible. The Bluetooth headphones feature is a huge plus for me, too. It works so well with my Sony headphones. The quality is so much better than when I use them with my dinky random Amazon transmitter. I only have one 4k disc but it is so cool that I can watch it now, downscaled to 1080p. The color was off but I didn't mess around with that setting yet. It will play 4K files off of my external hard drive, too, and they look perfect. That's really cool and convenient. It plays DVDs perfectly, too! I am nuts about this player. Sony was my very first DVD player in 1999. It feels good to have one again.

I got this player for about month. Only watch one movie on it that is 4k ultra. I have one time condition where disc freeze, also when watching movie can't see confirmation that watching in 4k, i got notification uhd disk or something like that, i do have 4k tv it is xr90k by sony. Other than that i think that this 4k player is really good and can bring you good viewing experience.

I got this 4k blu ray player when I took in my old 4k blu ray player in for repair which is a lower end model Sony when I choose to get a refund and get a new 4k blu ray player. The picture quality is amazing on my 4K blu ray player on DVDs, regular Blu ray movies upscales amazing on 4k. Both Dolby vision and HDR 10 also looks excellent on my TV. Colors really pop out in Dolby vision depending on what tv you have.

This is really a great 4k player pretty much plays everything! Looks amazing great picture and audio quality. I actually love the limited apps it has Netflix, Amazon and Youtube. Also you can cast from any device, Music, video. I do not like that this has a bluetooth transmitter but not a reciever. I have no use for a bluetooth transmitter. I do not have bluetooth speakers or headphones so this is just a useless feature for me. But if you do have those things I can see the point.lastly and worst of all is the media server. This is complete garbage I can only manage to play music on it no video or music? My network is set correct and so are my computers but it just does not work! Terrible! You cannot even use Plex with this. This is why I went 4 stars and not 5. I mainly bought this for 4k ultra discs and this unit sure delivers with those! Im using wifi and I have great speed and signal. So all in all I am pretty happy with the npurchase.

First the good stuff. This player does a fantastic job, especially at upscaling content. Whatever we've thrown at it looks great on a big screen. On the less desirable side, making most of the front panel the flip down to eject the disc tray feels flimsy and cheap. A traditional tray design would be much better. The button layout on the remote is odd and unfriendly. The most important buttons are tiny and hard to find. The remote should be backlit. I'd still give it a strong recommendation, but Sony made some surprisingly poor choices.

The sound out of this bar and rear speakers/bass is pretty good. I got it for the Atmos. Atmos seems to be pretty hit or miss because there isn’t a standard that the studios have to meet for the home market. I’ve been pretty selective on the discs I’ve bought to get the most out of it. It’s kind of a pain in the butt remote, and the ap won’t hook up. Once I found the best settings I was pleased.
