Decent but Underwhelming

I was underwhelmed by their sound quality compared to what I was used to, as well as the quality of ANC and hearing through mode. They were as good as my experience with Jabra, but not as good as Pixel Buds Pro and AirPods. And I don't like the foam tips, they never conform to my ear for a complete seal. So I put in some of my own that fit the connecting part of the buds to get a more comfortable and complete seal. But even after that, I was surprised these didn't have better full range and sound quality at the lowest and highest of bass and treble. Maybe if I tried them again, which I won't do, and give them a longer test run, I might appreciate them more. But this was my impression compared to what I've used before.

We are sorry to hear that the Noise Cancelling feature on your WF-1000XM5 earbuds is activating at inconvenient times, as this is definitely not the intended experience. This behavior is most often caused by the Adaptive Sound Control feature, which automatically changes the Noise Cancelling settings based on your activity (like walking or staying put); we recommend turning this feature off within the Sony | Headphones Connect App for a consistent experience. Additionally, check the app's settings to ensure the Speak-to-Chat function is disabled, as this temporarily pauses Noise Cancelling when you start talking.

Fine I guess, but hoped for better

They are a downgrade from the WF1000XM5. They are smaller but it feels like that came at a high cost. They don't want to stay connected to my phone, not completely dropping, but microdrops were they drop and re-connect super quick. Phone is in my pocket and wasn't an issue with the XM4s. They don't seat as well in the travel case and seem to auto-default to noise cancelling on just one of the two headphones no matter the setting i adjust on the app. Phone quality is good to great according to those i speak with while on them.

Your results may vary! At least there’s a return window! They are uncomfortable to me in the same way the AirPod pros one and two are. So if you have comfort issues with those you will likely have the same here.

For optimum fit and comfort, make sure that you are wearing the headphones properly. Put the headset units into both ears. Put the headset unit with the (left) mark into your left ear and the headset unit with the (right) mark into your right ear. The left headset unit has a tactile dot. Adjust the fit of the headset to your ears. Twist the headset unit to fit it snugly into the ear canal, and adjust the positioning of the headset unit until it fits comfortably. Wait for about 10 seconds for the earbud tip shape to stabilize.
Hint: If you feel earbud tips are difficult to put into your ears, change the size of earbud tips or squeeze earbud tips lightly before wearing the headset.
You may also find these steps helpful:
-Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears. When changing the earbud tips, try the earbud tip sizes in order from the larger ones to the smaller ones. The most suitable size of the earbud tips for left and right ears may be different.
-The “Sony | Headphones Connect” app will help you to determine which earbud tips suit you best to achieve the optimal noise canceling effect, sound quality, etc.
-Wear the headset so that the earbud tip is comfortably situated as deep in the ear canal as possible.

Disappointing

Owned for 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent a lot of time comparing these with the Bose quiet comfort ultra buds and bought these because much of what I read led me to believe they were the better option. They are not. The sound is good, but I spent hours and hours over 2 weeks and tried every combination of tip sizes to get these buds to fit right. No matter what I tried, and even though the fit analyzer claimed it was an airtight fit, they constantly fell out. I returned them today. I bought the Bose and got them on sale. I've had them in for the last several hours. They haven't fell out even once and the sound, especially the immersion mode, easily blows the Sony's away.

Above average but room for improvement

Earbuds lose ability to stay in place after about 2 months of consistent daily use. Also when taking phone calls earbuds tend to pick up alot of extra noise in the background
