Jump through hoops, and worst of all noise cancelling is poor. I had the Bose quiet comfort 2 and was totally impressed. It is incredibly quiet on noise canceling. I have an appt today to either return them or figure out why noise cancelling is poor on the sony.

I've never owned a pair of Sony earbuds i have 3 pair of the headphones witch i have to say i really enjoy listening to them. So i was excited to try these out and hope for the same thing. I have another brand that i use all the time B++++ and i have to say those are great. So on to the Sony 1000x they are small very small so to have a great sound come out from such a small pair of earbuds is awesome. They sound clean and clear. A great mix of bass and treble. They come with a good amount of earbud sizes, I have never had a pair of headphones or earbuds come out of the box and when i open them up they automatically connect to my phone no app needed. I was shocked that my Google app on the phone picked them up right away. Oh and these do have Google assistance on these so no need to use your phone to open your music or to make a call. I am disappointed in these that i can't mow with them on they just can't handle that much background noise. They do have volume with a swipe of your finger up or down and to pause just tap the earbud. They fit very good very light weight i can't tell that i have them in my ear. They don't stick put so you can't really see them> The case is very small you can put them in you pocket and not know you have them. Overall a great little earbud just sorry i can't use them for the heavy yard work like my other ones. But another great product from Sony like always.

Good sound once you adjust it
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned previous iterations of Sony's true wireless earbuds, and these are a definite improvement. Just aesthetically, they're better looking: smaller, and they don't protrude as much from your ear. Plus the case is smaller and now charges wirelessly. They use the same app to manage and control their performance. These are now touch sensitive, so no buttons to push. The touch controls can be annoying when you inadvertently turn the noise cancelling off when trying to adjust the fit, but that's an issue with nearly all touch-sensitive earbuds. I was initially disappointed with the sound. The highs and midrange were great - crisp and clear - but the low end performance was weak. I expect less from earbuds than over-the-ear headphones, but these were still a letdown. None of the preset equalizer settings in the app did enough to boost the bass, but I was able to get good performance when I created my own settings with the low end turned way up and the "clear bass" maxed out. The noise cancelling performance is excellent. And as noted previously, it's easy to turn on and off with a tap of the left earbud. These fit me great out of the box, but there are three sets of tips to adjust the fit to your ear precisely. There are also some new updates to the app, including the ability to sense your location and automatically adjust settings depending on where you are, for example, turning off noise cancelling at work. However, you need to be signed into your Sony account to use that feature, and the app was very buggy about letting me sign in. Another thing the app can do is "find" your preferred equalizer settings by running through a series of choices where you pick what sounds better to you. Overall though, the app adds a lot to the performance of the buds, and once you get them tuned just right, the sound is really, really good.

I understand that statement may come across as hyperbole, so let me explain... The day that these headphones came in the mail, I had a family member experience a significant medical event that necessitated me spending multiple nights in their hospital room with them as they recovered. The active noise cancelling (ANC) from these earbuds helped drown out the "hospital" noise at night and enabled me to get some good, quality sleep during a stressful time. You're probably not reading this review because you're about to spend multiple nights in a hospital room, but you probably are here because you're interested in some great ANC. And this is not just great ANC, it's fantastic. I'm not sure what exactly is happening, but when you put these earbuds in, there's a slight calibration to your ears. I hear it as a faint hum in the background for a few seconds, and then all background noise is gone. It happens automatically, and it is incredible. I'm excited to try these on an airplane for the first time because I'm pretty sure they will even block out that sound. Another great ANC feature is the ability of the earbuds to determine what you're doing and adjusting the levels based on that activity. There are settings for "staying," "walking," "running," and "riding in a vehicle." You can also program the headphones through the app to switch to the various modes based on your location. I have one setting for when I'm at my desk at work and another when I'm having lunch in a local park, for example. To get past the ANC, the audio quality is top notch as well. It's super rare to find some in-ear headphones that have quality bass and that's present here. There are also highly adjustable EQ settings in the app. Battery life has been amazing too. I mentioned earlier that I was able to have these in throughout the night while with my relative, and even with those lengthy sessions, I was able to go multiple days without needing to recharge. If you're looking for a set of headphones that sound great, last a long time, and have top-notch active noice cancelling, I doubt you can do better than these.

After trying many alternatives, the WF1000XM5 is the first one that really works for me. The WF1000XM5 uses a tip that is a little different than most earbuds. I would say it is a combination of standard silicon tips and spongy foam tips. Four sizes are included, so it should be easy to find ones that are a good fit for your ears. The sound from the earbuds is excellent. They have a good bass that is never too overpowering. With the EQ, you can really adjust how much treble or bass you get. The earbuds provide good separation and make individual instruments really stand out in the music. The Sony Headphones app is an integral part of using the earbuds. If you do purchase a pair of these earbuds, I would spend some time exploring all the settings you can customize for the earbuds. The Sound tab is where you configure Noise Canceling and Equalizer. I really like that they allow you to choose between a set of pre-configured EQs, create a custom EQ, and even have a beta feature to help you find your ideal EQ. The system tab has options to customize the touch buttons and the "Determines optimal Earbud Tips" brings you into a test to ensure the tips are appropriate for your ears. Note to Sony: it took me some exploring to find this, so I would recommend that it is easier to find. I used the earbuds for a few Zoom calls, and they seem to work well. I didn't hear myself speaking but the voice clarity from other participants was very good. It did take me a little experimenting on the proper orientations to insert the earbuds in my ears. The proper way to wear them is to have the dot at the bottom of the earbud. That seems to keep them the most stable and easiest way to get touch controls to work. One of my primary use cases with the earbuds is for use on my Peloton. With almost every other earbud from Bose, Apple, and Beats, the earbud would fall out after a few mins on the ride. These ones were the first one I could complete a full ride without them falling out.

We regret to learn the you've had experienced issues with the noise canceling not sufficient on these earbud headphones. The noise canceling effects may not be achieved depending on how the headset units are worn.
To make the most of the noise canceling function, we recommend to make sure that headphones are worn properly and also turn off the Adaptive Sound Control, and try to turn on the noise canceling function manually when you need it. The noise canceling function is effective in low frequency ranges such as airplanes, trains, offices, near air-conditioning, and is not as effective for higher frequencies, such as human voices.
It's also unfortunate that the unit had to be returned. We could've walked you through with some troubleshooting and offer assistance with our product.

The software update improves the general performance of the unit and includes key features, applications, and bug fixes.
By using the Sony Sound Connect app, you can make few adjustments to your headphones settings to suit your needs. This will give you more control over your headphones and their performance. To ensure optimal performance, as well as to obtain the best fit and prevent the headset from falling out, change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears. If you feel earbud tips are difficult to put into your ears, change the size of earbud tips or squeeze earbud tips lightly before wearing the headset. When wearing them, gently pull up on the top of your ears, put the earbud tips in your ear canal, and then twist the earbuds into place. This makes sure the earbuds are firmly in the ear canal.
