They both are excellent headphones. Bose needs a better app and sony needs to add fins for better support.

Sony earbuds constantly cut out on one side
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I currently have a nearly 4 year old pair of Jaybird Vista earbuds. They have worked flawlessly. Never had any issue with disconnects or sound problems. Since the battery on my old pair is deteriorating I figured I would check out the Sony XM5. While the sound is good with these earbuds, my left side continuously cuts out. I tried updating the software, rebooted my phone, and followed some other suggested steps, but they are still cutting out. With a claim like these are supposed to be better technology to keep the buds stable when connected to bluetooth I expected much better. I will be returning these to BestBuy. Funny how my older pair of earbuds that I payed $100 less for still have similar sound and have much better connectivity. I was hoping for more from Sony and am disappointed in these earbuds.

Touch Control Is HORRIBLE
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, there are ZERO instructions included and you have to go online to find out anything on how to use these horrible earbuds. Then the directions don't work because the buds don't work as advertised. These are supposed to be the flagship buds for Sony. I can't tell if they sound good because I can't figure out how to use them. The touch controls for these are absolutely horrible and you can't control them at all without using your device's controls. Every time you touch them something happens that ISN'T what you wanted it to do, like skip forward or back, or turn off the noise cancelling. Just touching them screws up whatever you're listening to. God forbid you try to change something while on the phone because you'll hang up on them. I want real physical buttons. The touch system with random tap controls is not worth the hassle. I will be returning them and getting a regular set of earphones with actual buttons that work - every time. Oh... I'd like to ask the Sony engineers if they know how LOUD it sounds in your ear to TAP on an earbud several times? Who thought THAT was a good idea??? And then when it doesn't do what you wanted it to (like, every time) you have to TAP on it AGAIN. It is painfully loud and you do it over and over trying to get it to do something. Totally disappointed in these. And for the price, it's a kick in the gut that they are so bad. I will definitely be returning them. This website won't let me post this without assigning a star to the "break down" section even though it says it's OPTIONAL, so you get one star for each because your site is as bad as the product, apparently.

The feature to connect to two devices at once sounds awesome and is.... When it works. I have had no shortage of connectivity issues. Not wanting to connect to my phone and/or laptop and having to put them back in their case and get them out again, sometimes several times, before they will connect. I even have issues where they wont disconnect once I put them back in the case and close the lid. All other aspects are good, but that doesn't matter if you have to fight with them all the time.

Im shocked by how bad the Sonys sound in comparison. They sound very hollow and the treble is extreme. The bass is decent, its there, fast and has ok punch. The Soundcores have a much more full, warm, and exciting sound. The Sonys dont sound that much better than my S23 Ultra's speakers. The app looks very dated, not that easy to navigate. It feels like it was made in the Android 7 days. I'm actually pretty upset that these $300 earbuds get demolished by $150 earbuds that came out a while ago, making my purchase feel like a very stupid and wasteful one. Will be returning them asap. One last final gripe, the smooth plastic finish on the ear buds makes them really hard to grip and get out of the case and feels very cheap.

If the size of the earbud tips does not match the size of your ear canals or the headset is not worn properly in your ears, tap operations or Speak-to-Chat speech detection may not work correctly, or you may not obtain the correct sound qualities, noise canceling effects, or call performance. If any of this is the case, try the following.
-Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears. When changing the earbud tips, try the earbud tip sizes in order from the larger ones to the smaller ones. The most suitable size of the earbud tips for left and right ears may be different.
-The “Sony | Headphones Connect” app will help you to determine which earbud tips suit you best to achieve the optimal noise canceling effect, sound quality, etc.

Good sound but

The large sized buds give the best coverage and ANC but the inside of my ear hurts after a few hours. The medium isn't as painful but they're small that the noise quality gets reduced as well as the ANC. They stay snug at least. Sucks though cause the sound is incredible on these.

For optimum fit and comfort, make sure that you are wearing the headphones properly. Put the headset units into both ears. Put the headset unit with the (left) mark into your left ear and the headset unit with the (right) mark into your right ear. The left headset unit has a tactile dot. Adjust the fit of the headset to your ears. Twist the headset unit to fit it snugly into the ear canal, and adjust the positioning of the headset unit until it fits comfortably. Wait for about 10 seconds for the earbud tip shape to stabilize.
Hint: If you feel earbud tips are difficult to put into your ears, change the size of earbud tips or squeeze earbud tips lightly before wearing the headset.
You may also find these steps helpful:
-Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears. When changing the earbud tips, try the earbud tip sizes in order from the larger ones to the smaller ones. The most suitable size of the earbud tips for left and right ears may be different.

Good product, bad company

The tips are consumable. Meaning they wear out at a regular interval. Ive been wearing buds for close to 30 years and never have i had tips that wear out. No big deal I'll buy some more. Cant. Sold out for over a month. Shipping cost twice as much as the buds. What a joke. I'll live with my oil-filled earbuds. They're gross but they still work.
