Not user friendly. Kept cutting off music when it heard coughs, clearing my throat or if anyone was nect to me talking .

ANC wasn’t what was advertised. App is useless. I would not recommend this to a friend

They worked for few weeks they stopped working one side doesn’t work

The headphones did not sit in carrier easily, which caused them to not charge well.

Worst product, the noise canceling is really useless and more so became noise attractor.

The Sony WF1000XM5 True Wireless Noise Cancelling Earbuds are quite nice. Sony is known for their excellent general consumer personal audio and these are no exception. They include most, if not all, of the features you might want. Sound quality is first and foremost and I have to say these are either on par with or surpass any other set of earbuds I've used to this point. Crisp clear highs, rich deep bass, and a pleasant mid-range that ties them together for a pleasant and complete sonic profile in my opinion. The active noise cancelling works quite well, though I must be honest in saying that I did notice that it wasn't quite as effective as my AirPods Pros. I was a little disappointed in that regard. Not sure if it is due to the fit or something in hardware that could be fixed with a firmware update, but I hope there is some way to improve it a bit. As a programmer one of my favorite features of any earbuds is noise cancelling that lets me just be "in my head". Turning off transparency and "tunnel visioning" my way through a project is how I operate. Just throwing this out there as well since I'm not sure, but the material the tips are made of feels different from the WF1000XM4 earbuds I have at work that the WF1000XM5s are supposed to replace. Maybe it's just because I need to break them in more or something. I just noticed that the out of box experience between the two was not quite the same. Lastly I'll comment on battery life. It's excellent. Definitely one of the best out there in my opinion. As previously mentioned, I tend to crank the noise cancelling most of the time and that can definitely shrink the usage time per charge. No problem with these though plenty of juice! All in all a solid offering. 4 stars because, while I really like these, I like both my 2 year old Air Pods Pro and WF1000XM4s more. If you don't have a set of earbuds or don't have a pair of high quality ones though these just might fit the bill for you!

Hands Down best sounding buds available. Stay in my ears perfect. I have Apple Pro2 & they are collecting dust since I received these. Sound ANC, charging, function all great! These are my daily drivers

THE best noise cancelling earbuds I've ever used. Sound quality and bass is amazing, very comfortable, and incredibly effective noise canceling! I can't even hear myself cry at night because we ran out of milk and it's 2:30 am so I can't go to the store to get more! The ability to connect to two devices at once and seamlessly switch between which one you hear is amazing g too!

I've been using these earbuds for about a week now and I am extremely impressed with the sound and clarity coming from these earbuds. I paired this with my Apple iPhone 13 and was skeptical that these would be such a strong performer in Apple's ecosystem. I'm truly impressed with the adaptive sound modes that Sony has embedded into the earbuds. It can detect when I am at home listening to music in my office and knows when I am out taking the dog for a walk, and adjusts the noise canceling modes to allow more ambient noise (cars driving by) when walking outside, and the amount of ambient noise the earbuds allows through is adjustable in the app. Battery life is great. I'm able to get about 8-10 hours out of a single charge, more towards the higher side if ambient noise is allowed in, and more towards the 8 hours if I'm using noise canceling exclusively. The case holds enough battery power for about 2 full charges from what I can tell. In terms of fit, this is something that is a bit subjective. At first, I thought these would fall out of my ears, but they have stayed in, even when running and walking through the neighborhood. I use the standard tips that come with earbuds, but Sony has included different tips depending if your ears are smaller or larger. All I can say is try them to see which gives you the best fit. Overall, these are fantastic earbuds. The Sony app has a lot of features and I'm still exploring the different gestures you can do to answer/end calls, setup an assistant, etc. The sound is great and if you are in the market for an advanced, top of the line earbuds, I would definitely consider these.

They have excellent sound, they are really conftrable and have great battery life. They are better than the xm4. The only downside is that you have to mess with them every time you put them on to get a gould seal in order to get the gray noise canceling. If you don't get a good seal the noise canceling is very weak.

Upgraded from a pair of Galaxy Buds Plus and WOW, it was it a major upgrade. Huge improvement in Audio Clarity, Call quality and the pass through/noise cancellation is fantastic! There are moments where I literally forget I am wearing them. The fit is excellent as well, I don't worry about them falling out too much and only need to adjust them occasionally. The magnet case is great, I have yet to truly drop them but I think when I do the earbuds will not go flying everywhere. They hold in nice and firm. With my old Galaxy Buds, I couldn't make phone calls at all. My callers always complained they couldn't hear me. With these buds, I have yet to get a single complaint and I use them constantly while working now.

These are absolutely the best overall quality and performance earbuds I’ve had to date. The fit and finish is excellent, and the performance is even better. With respect to fit and fee, these earbuds are very comfortable with the ear, especially with the overall design of the ear insert to body of the ear bud. They are not too heavy, but have enough weight to feel “solid”. The combination of the design and controls go very nicely, allowing for easy operation without interruption of music and or calls. I’ve found them to maintain the same quality of functionality even when running in the rain, which has been great to not have a song skip or pause from a little bit of moisture. Most impressive though are the noise cancelling and ambient noise modes. For both modes, the cancelled/limited frequency spectrums generate an awesome overall audio experience. The battery life is good as well, being right around 8 hours when listening to music, but i still find it impressive given the amount of features these earbuds have. Truly impressed so far!

These earbuds took a few tries for me to get a good fit. Fortunately, I tried them in a place i could find them easily. Once I got a good fit, I could appreciate the superb sound quality and comfort. Unfortunately, i had a bad cold, so my coughing would silence the ear buds and I had to restart the action multiple times. I could see how that could be a nice feature for listening to music, but might be a problem for video conferencing. I need to review the manual to see if i can selectively turn off that feature.

The fit and stability are a bit of an improvement over the previous model. The hard-case and buds definitely feels made of higher-quality material and sleeker finish. These are the two biggest improvements I see from the XM4 model. The actual buds seem lighter, TBD how they handle wear and tear. If you don't already own the XM4 model, this is definitely worth a buy. If you already own the XM4 model, the other features are marginal upgrades at best so it might not be worth paying the full price. I am a fan and give this a very high rating!

I love sony products in general as in I have a blueray dvd player, shelf system, home theater system and walkman media player, so it was a no brainer when I was looking for new earbuds. I love how you can have multiple devices paired and switch them without having to disconnect devices when you want/need to listen to a different device. For example I have them paired to my work laptop, my smartphone and personal desktop and switching quick and ease. I also love that I can have the adaptive sound control auto switch them back and forth from noise canceling to ambient sound depending if my current location is my work location or home location. Also love being able to see the current sound pressure as I listen to my favorite music. I have yet to have them fall out of my ears thanks to being able to use the sound connect app to check if the earbud tips are the right size/ they are in all the way into the ear cannel, ifboth ears pass then all good and if one or both fail the check all you have to do is adjust either just the one or both and redo the check until both pass.

Packaging & What It Comes With The packaging is compact. Inside the box you will find the earbuds inside of the charging case, a total of 4 pair of tips, a short USB-C to USB-A cable (less than 9” from plug tip to plug tip), and instructions. The charging case will hold the earbuds with one set of tips installed. There’s no room to take the other tips with you. The short USB charging cable is limiting, so be sure to have accommodations for what you need. Finally, they provided an instruction booklet, but it really doesn’t provide enough information to amount to much. Sony wants you to use the QR code to install their app and show the needed information. Sound Quality The XM5 earbuds have really clear upper and mid-range sound. That part was impressive. Like almost all earbuds I’ve tried, the bass was terrible. It does support Hi-Res audio, but there’s not much of this content. When you can find it, you usually need some sort of special subscription. Noise Cancellation The noise cancellation feature is advertised by Sony as “The Best Noise Cancelling”. I will say that it does work well, but the earbud version was really uncomfortable to me. I prefer the over-the-ear Sony headphones that I have. Something about the earbuds made me cringe. It did prevent outside audio from coming in. For instance, my wife was speaking to me and I could not hear her at all. One key thing with the noise cancellation feature is that you really need to use the correct tips for your ear. I started with some that were slightly too big, and could hear everything around me. Once I got into the next size down it seemed to seal the outside audio out much better. Comfort These earbuds were just not comfortable at all for me. The XM5s are really bulky, especially compared to the “earbuds on sticks”. They were hard to get into position. They are hard to keep in position. Moving them back into position always hit the controls. They feel like they will fall out easily. I couldn’t imagine trying to run in them. Controls The Sony earbuds have outer surface controls. They are not intuitive. You tap the outer surface a certain number of times to make the change that you need. You have to remember what two touches do vs 4 touches. The left earbud has different controls than the right. If you have to reposition the earbud you’re likely to touch the surface and change a setting that you didn’t mean to. I do not like the controls at all. Battery-life The battery-life seems to do well. I am still on the initial charge from the factory. Conclusion I’m giving the Sony WF-1000XM5 2 stars. They get credit for the clear upper and mid-range audio, but I expect more bass from a higher-dollar earbud. These aren’t comfortable at all to me. The controls are difficult. I expected these to be better than they are.

Great buds! Fit and sound are top notch! Price drop makes them a no brainer.
