Sleek design, True Audio
|Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great quality amazing sounding headphones. Long battery life great design (doesn’t hurt my ears after wearing all day) and case is nice and small. Sound Connect app does take a while too setup and navigate for new users but does have nice features and settings. Noise cancellation is also really good but nothing beats the AirPods Pro’s unfortunately. Overall great headphones would definitely recommend to all who are interested in wireless headphones

Posted .Hi Devon,
That's wonderful! We're thrilled you love the sound and battery life of your WF-1000XM5 earbuds. For increased volume, try checking the volume limit settings both within the Sony Headphones Connect app and on the device you're connected to, as some devices have their own separate limiters that can be adjusted.
Thanks for choosing Sony.

A solid choice for newcomers
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not necessarily an upgrade if you're moving from the WF1000XM4, but if this is your first pair of premium true wireless earbuds you're getting some of the best of the best. They're small so they fit in your ears without feeling like they're hurting your ears. The sound quality is top notch with tons of EQ options. The noise cancellation is about the same as the WF1000XM4 but not quite as good as the Bose QC II and the Airpods Pro still have the best of the best in transparency mode quality. I was able to get a solid 7 and a half hours of battery with ANC and being able to get an hour back in less than five minutes of charging is amazing. A solid choice for people who love music.

It's the quiet ones you have to watch out for.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These are spendy but they work, they FIT, They are multipoint, LDAK is "lossless" for those of us who like to pretend we can tell the difference between high and master settings on TIDAL or other fancy streaming/download services. Not to mention, it is some dark magic that these phones can bump as hard as they do pushing this level of quality sound while having any decent battery life to speak of. Their app is one of, if not THE best of all the smartphone apps, especially among those that the app is required. There is one issue I cover at the end. The 360 Audio is great and not overcooked like so many companies who be like, "We aren't Dolby but, Hey look over there!" They are light-weight, low profile, have superb noise canceling (not as good as Bose, but Bose's offering in this category is a non-starter for SO many people not just me) and their sound profiles are amazing. Ah-MAZE-ing. They are even water resistant ALMOST as good as Samsung, just one IPX rating lower, and Samsung uses their ruggedness against water and dust as a major, and valid, selling point to make up for their other shortcomings. If you are in the $300 price range or considering it, Sony's model WFthehecktoolongmodelnumberXM5's are a lot like that nice, smart, but small and quieter kid who's dad has been teaching them Jiu-jitsu since before they could walk. They are awfully dominant at this premium price point. I am proud to have these and I am keeping until they fall apart. Ok, one thing I MUST say is REALLY bad but there is a super quick work around. Here it is: VERY serious issue. The APP is AMAZING and this won't bother some people but Sony is pretending they need a photo of your ears and head to optimize sound. I am not kidding. In a world where our data and likeness and voice and contacts and photos and on and on are everywhere, asking to take a photo of me in order to have access to use the $300 headphones you sold me is, pardon the pun, about as tone-deaf as a company could ever be. Now the work around is so easy they still get 5 stars. Just stick your hand or something in front of the camera and choose, "take photo manually." Then take two photos of your hand. The odds that there is ANY sound adjustment made between a photo of my fist and a photo of my actual ear is just not passing the smell test. This is so ridiculous it is hard not to call it nefarious but let's not assign malice where incompetence is available, Sony is not Alley-Ex TokTok, after all. They should have just put a photo of some ears and asked me to pick which ones mine most look like. Also their terms and conditions are 10,000 words and you must scroll through all of it. It basically says Sony will collect anything it can via these headphones and do whatever the heck it wants with whatever it can get. But so is everyone else and at least Sony is being honest about it. Once that is out of they way they are great. Really, go get these.

Not an earphone guy but genuinely pleased
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I normally do not like earphones and prefer headphones any day of the week, however in a work environment (at least mine) it's not always as convenient. Mostly due to comfort, ear irritation or generally much better sound from an overhead headphone. It is so important to have the proper size ear tip in these, it can't be said enough. The videos make it seam so easy of popping them in with a slight twist, however that's where I deduct a star as I have to twist back and forth to get good seal. With noise cancelling feature turned on, man you can hear almost feel when it's a proper seal tho, it's amazing. Normally most earphones irritate me after a couple hours of wear, but these are not the easiest to set inside your ear but once they are set they are good. They are not fitness buds, so any activity I'm sure will cause them to fall out but they are pretty snug. Sony's Noise cancelling is one of the best according to the experts and I believe it. I know Apple's is good too, however the sound quality is much much better on Sony's. There are two choices for ambient sound control Ambient sound (passthrough) Or noise cancelling( on) However, in the app, you can turn on another option that basically is (ambient sound control off) It says its supposed to save battery life quite a bit, (it does) and once again to my previous point, IF YOU HAVE A PROPER SEAL, it's basically noise cancelling ON due to the tight seal but you are saving battery. You do hear slight noises you wouldn't hear with NC on vs Off, like tapping your finger on desk, or basically echo's through your body, but it's pretty good I found heavy use, ( NC ON, volume+%80, constant pausing, skipping to last +- 4hrs before one side having low battery. However when the setting for ambient sound off, no NC is selected, I did an 8 hr day and around %40 battery left per side. Definitely worth checking out that option, remember it's not perfect but battery life is impressive Sony sounds great , with ear tips were easier to fit, but I guess you get a great seal. I bet these are amazing when traveling on plane cancelling out all the wind noise

Posted .Hi HugoH,
Thank you for taking the time to write such an in-depth review of your experience with your WF-1000XM5. We do understand that ear canals vary in size from person to person, and can also vary in size from the left to the right sides. Different sizes of earbud tips are supplied so that you can achieve the maximum effects of the earbuds. We recommend that you squeeze the earbud tips lightly before wearing the headset. Gently pull up on the top of your ears, put the earbud tips in your ear canal, and then twist the earbuds into place. This makes sure the earbuds are firmly in the ear canal.
We have a recommended way of wearing these earbud headphones to reduce discomfort on this link here: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/wireless-headphones-bluetooth-headphones/wf-1000xm4/articles/00262839
Glad to hear you that you like the excellent noise cancellation, sound quality, and exceptional comfort of these earbud headphones. It's amazing to know you're utilizing the different customizations and built-in equalizer on the Sony Headphones Connect app. Thanks for choosing Sony! -Jess

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. They are so dang good, the sound quality has been everything I thought it would be, but what I care even more about is how comfortable they are, and they really are, I work 8 hours day in an office and want to enjoy my music and work training in peace and that is what they offer, they are easy to set up and the dual phone connection mode works well enough, very few issues with it, nothing that would stop me from telling others about it, sony has come in with a winner and I will get an update when they come out as well.

Good not Great.
|Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My experience with the Sony XM5 earbuds has been mixed thus far, on the one hand the clarity is amazing and the distinction in voice and identifiability of each respective instrument is a dream for someone like myself who values clarity and voice over other aspects of music. Unfortunately this does not make up for what to me reminds me of fake bass and a saddening lack of volume combined with poor noise cancellation even after switching up and trying different combinations of tips to try and get the best noise cancellation. Overall a good product but lacking in the aspects that would make it a great product especially for the price point, I am looking forward to trying the next iteration to see if the improvements change my mind but for now I am just glad to see Sony making a comeback with better quality products.

Sony makes my favorite earbuds
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had their previous generation and love these. Great audio quality. Fast connectivity to different devices. The carrying case for this one is smaller than what I'm used to making me kinda scared of losing it. The case has an interesting gritty texture but overall great audio and great call quality. Fits very comfortable in my ears.

We're so pleased to hear that you are enjoying your WF-1000XM5 earbuds! It's fantastic that you've found the sound and comfort to be top-notch, and we're glad you're appreciating the excellent battery life.
The comfort and secure fit you're experiencing is thanks to our ergonomic design, which is 25% smaller and 20% lighter than the previous model. This makes for a more natural fit in your ear, so you can enjoy your music for extended periods without fatigue. The superb sound quality you're hearing is a result of the Dynamic Driver X, which provides a wider frequency reproduction, so you can enjoy richer vocals and more detailed sound across all genres.

Decent upgrade from the XM4s
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The WF-1000XM5s is a significant upgrade from WF-1000XM4s. I've previously owned the WF-1000XM4s and the XM5s are generally a bit better than XM4s where the XM5s have WAY BETTER battery life, slightly better noise cancellation, more comfortable, and slightly better sound quality (XM4s have better bass sound). I would spend the extra money to purchase the XM5s over the XM4s, because the XM4s battery life is SO BAD.

Great earbuds, but pricey
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I usually buy JBLs on sale every year for different purposes. They're solid and they sound nice. Apple Beats are nice as well, but abit overpriced. Samsung earbuds sound nice, but they don't last. So it was time to try Sony earbuds. Alright, using the sound connect software I was able to get the equalizer the way I wanted, and voice control working in a reasonable fashion. Again, they sound nice, are they the best sounding earbuds I've heard? No, higher end JBLs sound better, but these do sound better than my Apple Studio Beats earbuds. Now onto the negatives. Like I mentioned, these sound good, but only as good as JBL Tune 235s which sounds great BTW. Better than my JBL Endurance 2 earbuds. They sound better than my Beats, but not as good as my JBL Live 2 Free TWS. Those are about $110 cheaper on sale compared to the Sony WF1000XM5s. Summary: Overall build quality seems nicer on the Sony's WF1000XM5 compared to JBLs. Honestly, they're the 2nd best overall just right behind my JBL Live Free 2 TWS. All important question, are these worth the money? On sale, and you're a Sony guy (I own several over the ear Sony headsets) it's a yes. If you're new to high performance earbuds, go with higher end JBLs. You're not losing much, the software is good, and they sound great for the price. Overall, the Sony's are still a 5, if I did not have the higher end JBLS, I wouldn't be anything to complain about.

Great, with some niggles
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I came to buy these Sony headphones after extremely disappointing experiences with Bose (see my review of the Quiet Comfort II headphones for details), and by comparison with the Bose products, these are AMAZING. Almost everything about them is better: audio quality, the app, the charging case, and connectivity are all superior. The only better feature on the Quiet Comfort line is, in fact, the quiet: the noise cancelling on the XM5 line is just not very effective and lets through a lot of ambient noise even when noise reduction is active. Pros: * Lightweight * Great audio quality * Recharge quickly * Connectivity is more reliable than Bose * App readily displays remaining battery life and otherwise stays out of your way * Case design is great: case stands up and has an appropriately-sized USB-C receptacle, unlike the QCII; also the earbuds lock into place magnetically, ensuring that they're charging Cons: * Touch sensitivity means that adjusting the earbuds will result in issuing unintentional commands * Foam ear inserts attract earwax and also feel less secure than buds which use rubber inserts * Buds don't fit snugly enough to stay put when running I'm mostly really happy with these earbuds, but for $300, I would expect zero issues and perhaps better noise cancellation, but given that I paid only slightly less for the Bose earbuds and got total crap, perhaps my expectations are out of line with the state of the art.

Thank you for your time writing this review! We're glad that you like the amazing sound quality, lightweight, quick charging, seamless connectivity, case design, and features of the WF1000XM5 earbuds. However, we're sorry to hear some issues that you are experiencing with the unit. Allow us to help turn this to a better experience.
For optimum performance, please make sure that the headset software is updated as it includes key features, applications, bug fixes, and feature improvements.
When tapping the touch sensor multiple times, tap it quickly with an interval of about 0.3 seconds between taps. You can change the function assigned to the touch sensors on the left and right headset units using the “Sony | Headphones Connect” app. You may refer to this link with information about the touch sensor of the unit:

The Noise Canceling function is most effective for low frequency (bass) noise, such as noise made by vehicles or air conditioning, but not all sounds can be completely canceled. Try other conditions to test the effectiveness of the Noise Canceling function. Please try some solutions on this link with steps if the the Noise Canceling effect is weak or not working on the WF-1000XM5:

Great sound, calls, and noise cancelling
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great sound and features for the price. Overall, these earbuds have been great. I use these in all sorts of conditions. Work, Gym, Music, Phone calls, etc. The device does a great job at managing connections and easily connects to more than one device without issue. For example, I can have them paired to my laptop for a teams/zoom call as well as having them connected to my phone for incoming calls or music. The experience is seamless enough that I actually forget its connected to multiple devices. Call quality on these are fantastic. Both my mic and incoming conversations are very clear and they do a great job of cutting out external noise in my environment for others on the call while also reducing the impact I hear around me with noise cancelling. The noise cancelling overall is also great. While they are not the quietest I have experienced, they are top tier and have no issue with the noise cancelling they provide. If you have the setting at maximum, you will have trouble understanding someone talking right next to you. These do have a great feature for that though. If enabled you can allow these to cut through the noise cancelling when you begin a conversation with someone, immediately letting the surrounding noise or conversation back into your ears. Sound quality for music is also great. The equalizer is more than enough for earbuds and the delivered quality sound that was better than I expected for an earbud. That being said... these are not audiophile, wired, over the ear quality sound. But for streaming music on your phone (at a likely lower bitrate than you realize) they are fantastic. When connected to a proper audio source with a high bitrate, they still perform well but wouldn't recommend these as your main set of headphones if that's what you are looking for, The only downside to these are the ear canal inserts. While they come with multiple sizes, I just find they don't fit as snug as I would like across the range. They are not memory foam so you don't get much play in terms of expansion in your ear. They also get dirty very easily and are hard to clean. Thankfully, the small mesh grate is part of the ear insert and not in the unit itself, but it gets jammed up easily even if you clean your ears regularly. This does impact the sound and you will need to maintain these regularly. The pads themselves are also a bit brittle. The exterior layer is easily scratched off or damaged so its best to use a cleaning solution of some kind. Overall, great tech.

||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I always wanted to buy the XM4s but they were too big. Then these came out and I thought they were perfect. The ANC is AMAZING! I love the sound quality and I like that the app has a 5 band EQ with a clean bass slider. Unfortunately I can't use all the features. I was really looking forward to using the head tracking and spacial audio features but because I own a S23 Ultra by Samsung they are disabled. Looks like these will be going back. For the price I'd like to be able to use all the features.

Incredible sound quality & noise isolation, but...
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These are incredible sounding headsets (when I first bought them they were $400 and even with the above being true, they were too expensive, so I'm happy to see that they are less expensive now), but using them ok a non-Sony handset may incur sound popping when targeting maximum bit depth and bitrates which are not directly customizable when using the supported Sony Headphones app. These are also incredibly easy to lose track of if you aren't paying attention. Somehow, I lost my left earbud in my sleep and was not able to find it. I'll probably buy another pair soon because I do miss them. But in the meantime, I did pick up another pair of headsets to see if the grass could be greener elsewhere. Also, the Sony app does require many permissions to run on Android, just 1 on Android 13. The required permission is device access so it can recognize the headsets.

Best Sound & Call Quality. Worst Controls & App
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unlike most users, I maximize my earbuds for work, all-day use, focused on calls. Ever since Jabra left the US market, i had been on a hunt for a proper replacement. Unfortunately Sony doesn’t have a solution. Pros: Sound Quality, both for music and calls. Noise Cancellation, Hear-Through is world class. Battery Life, gets me through the day. Surrounding Noise Sensors are world class. Cons: Janky Sony App, feels like it was created by kids. Haptic Touch Buttons, rarely works. No Voice Confirmation for actions. No Mute for Calls (dealbreaker). Overall, if you want the best sound, clearest phone conversations, and best sensory technology, these are the best in the business. Just the cons outweigh the pros for me.
