Best Ear Buds Yet

At first i was unsure about wireless ear buds. However after the first use, im glad i made the investment. I use these for XC mountain bike training and they feel super secure even after multiple hours of strenuous riding. The sound is crisp and clear and the option for ambient sound is really neat. You can literally talk and have a conversation without removing the buds and then when done switch back to true noise cancelling and continue jamming out.

Good, but some rough patches.

Yeah, they sound fantastic, like a solid punch to the face with sound. ANC is on point, blocks out the world like it’s not even there. But, uh, they’re not exactly comfy. Like, you’re aware you’re wearin’ 'em, you know? The smart ambience thing? It’s useless. Speech recognition for auto-adjusting ANC? Might as well be a brick for all the good it does. And don’t get me started on the charging. Right earbud just won’t charge after a while, and the case? It’s a freakin’ nightmare—don’t always charge when you drop ‘em in. They’re great for sound and ANC, but everything else? Not so much.

However, we're sorry to learn that you're encountering charging issues and that some features aren't functioning as expected. Your feedback is extremely important to us and is very much appreciated. The WF-1000XM5 earbud headphones may fall out or feel uncomfortable during use if they are not worn properly or the earbud tips doesn't match the size of your ear canals. Check that you are wearing the headset properly in your ears.
We have a recommended way of wearing these earbud headphones to reduce discomfort. Please make sure to follow the guide from this link: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/wireless-headphones-bluetooth-headphones/wf-1000xm5/articles/00262839
For the Speak-to-Chat function, you can use the “Sony Sound Connect app" (formerly Sony Headphones Connect app) to switch between enabled/disabled, change the sensitivity of the automatic audio detection, and change the time until the Speak-to-Chat mode ends. The Speak-to-Chat mode activates when the WF-1000XM5 detects the speech of the person wearing the them, but in rare cases it may activate in response to vibrations caused by devices such as electric toothbrushes, electric massagers, and electric shavers, or by activities such as brushing your teeth, coughing, or humming. In cases where the Speak-to-Chat mode frequently activates by accident, set Speak-to-Chat to “L Sensitivity”.

Great earphones but try before buy

Thanks for sharing your review and experience with the WF1000XM5. We're glad that you like the sound quality and battery life of the headphones. Your feedback about its fit is greatly appreciated. For optimum fit and comfort, make sure that you are wearing both earbuds properly. Put the headset unit with the (left) mark into your left ear and the headset unit with the (right) mark into your right ear. The left headset unit has a tactile dot. If you feel it is difficult to put the earbud tips into your ears, squeeze the earbud tips lightly before wearing the headset. Adjust the fit of the headset units to your ears. Hold and rotate the headset unit with your thumb, index, and middle finger to adjust the headset to fit your ear. After putting the headset unit into your ear, hold the side of the headset unit with your fingers and slowly push the earbud tip into your ear canal. Check if there is a gap between the earbud tip and your ear canal because the earbud tip is not inserted all the way into your ear or the earbud tip is the wrong size.

Extremely reliable

I use them for 6-8 hours every day, and the battery life continues to amaze me. I work outdoors in all kinds of weather, and they have never let me down.The most remarkable experience was during a tornado that knocked down hundreds of trees. At 11:30 at night, I was called out to shut off a natural gas well that had been hit by a tree. I climbed over what felt like a hundred trees in the dark, battling heavy rain and branches. It took nearly an hour to complete what would normally be a five-minute walk.During my trek back, a branch knocked out my right earbud. I searched for it with a flashlight for ten minutes before giving up. Two weeks later, while clearing debris, a coworker found the earbud on the ground. I was astonished. I put it back in the case, doubting it would charge or work. An hour later, it was back to a full charge and playing music perfectly.My coworker was so impressed he bought a pair the next day.

Each Generation Gets Better!

I have had the prior generation from Sony, going back to 2020, and this one is their best one. Battery life has improved significantly. Roughly 8 hours on ambient and another 8 to 12 with a case recharge. Faster recharged and i get let less complaints of static feedback. I only wear Sony. Sound quality is like wearing an audiophile set of cans.

Walk, Talk, and Chew Gum

The sound is clear, and have various sizes of rubber covers that fit the ear. At first i had trouble getting them to stay in my ears. After changing the rubber piece, I got a better fit. I can walk, talk, and listen to music throughout the day without issue. Not sure these would work for rigorous activities, but they're perfect for ordinary, daily activities.

Sony Earbuds - a worthy investment.

Compared to Apple Airbuds Pro, the Sony earbuds sound much better, with deeper, richer sound. They are very comfortable for longer wear, and excellent for long, hands-free calls. My one complaint - it took me a while to notice the small R and L on each earbud, Overall, they are consistent with the top reviews and a great choice if you're looking to upgrade

Sound superior; earbud tips inferior

My only issue is the earbud tips - I have had to purchase alternate tips to get some that fit and stay in my ears. The sound quality is excellent and worth the extra effort but the earbud tips cost them a star.

Excellent for working outside

I use them to cut the grass with a large loud lawn tractor and it protects my hearing perfectly. The sound is premium and the lows are just heavy and punchy enough without sounding muddy or overpowering. You do get what you pay for, so they are above average in price.

Flawed but wonderful

I do find they have some weird connectivity issues. For example sometimes only one bud turns on when I take them both out of the case. And I found switching these between my phone and computer frustrating, often resulting in no sound. But I'd still probably buy them again.

Great when I had them... already lost them

There is no way to activate them on "find my device" if they are in the case and not connected to your phone. That is something that I will have to have next time I purchase earbuds. I have the older version xm3s that I can still use and sound quality is very similar. The battery is the reason I upgraded which is very good in this product, but without a find my device ability, I would hesitate to buy them again. The case is so small, almost half the size of my XM3 case and misplacing the case is much easier. I know it sounds crazy, but now that I have lost them, I will not buy another set unless it has an ability for the case to be found.

If you are an android user, then it's a super easy yes. If you are an iPhone user like me then it depends on 2 factors. 1- Is Apple's ecosystem important to you? If the answer is yes, then go with the Air pods Pro 3. If the answer is no, then get the Sony's. 2- Is sound/bass more important to you? This is where the Sony's are better. Especially in the bass. Another plus is the sound customization you can use with these. It does have preloaded as well, but I actually fined tuned mine more and it's just perfect for me. I use this on my iPhone 17Pro Max and Apple 4K TV with zero issues.
