XM 5 call quality in a loud environment

Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using the Sony Link S now for about 1 year.I bought the XM 5 and have returned them.When talking in a loud room no one I was talking on the other end could make out what I was saying even after the firmware update.I Used my LInk S and what a difference.People I was talking to were able to clearly understand and hear me. Sony, for this price the XM 5’s call quality in a loud environment is terrible when making calls. I am back to my Link S.

If the size of the earbud tips does not match the size of your ear canals or the headset is not worn properly in your ears, tap operations or Speak-to-Chat speech detection may not work correctly, or you may not obtain the correct sound qualities, noise canceling effects, or call performance. It is recommended to wear the headset properly.

Great for listening but connects by itself in case

My buds kept connecting to my device, while in the case, therefore draining battery. By the time I wanted to use them, they never had enough power. I tried all of the steps for fixing it. Sony ended up sending replacement. will see if problem persists. Futhermore, phone call quality is pretty terrible. While I have no problem hearing the person on the line, the other people tell me I sound like I'm underwater

Definitely better than Bose!

Good noise cancelling if they can fit and stay on

I have an Android phone, and it works really well with my phone. However, I had to return my earbuds because I have ears that have really huge openings, and the largest ear tip that came with the device was too loose for my ears. This made me force to really shove them deep in my ears to ensure they don't fall off, but in the process the notches for the charging contacts irritate my ears. I felt like if I have to deal with these inconveniences now, I'll have to deal with them for the duration of my ownership of the earbuds, so I had to return it and switch to the Bose earbuds.

For optimum fit and comfort, it is recommended to wear the headphones properly. Twist the headset unit to fit it snugly into the ear canal, and adjust the positioning of the headset unit until it fits comfortably. The most suitable size of the earbud tips for left and right ears may be different. The “Sony | Headphones Connect” app allows you to determine which earbud tips suit you best to achieve the optimal noise canceling effect, sound quality, etc.

I own a WH-1000XM4 for 6 years now and it's superb. I would have been happy if these performed half as good but they don't. Noise cancelling is almost non existent. Fit doesn't work for me and sound quality is just OK. My 7 years old cheap Samsung earbuds bits these. Disappointed given these are pricy.

Buyer Beware

Sound quality is great but that's about where the positives end. The noise cancelling causes a popping sound in the left bud whether on ambient sound mode or noise cancelling and apparently this has been an issue with the XM4's and has carried over. You have to go into the app to completely turn this off and then they sound great but don't get to use the noise cancelling, so that has become a useless feature. They also disconnect randomly which isn't an issue I've had with any of my other headphones (galaxy buds, beats, off brand amazon buys) which can be extremely frustrating. Overall I cannot recommend these headphones. I would suggest looking at something else. I'll likely be going back to Samsung after this snafu.

If the headphones randomly disconnects, please ensure that the headset and the Bluetooth device within 1 m (3.2 ft) from each other. Bluetooth communications may be disabled, or noise or audio dropout may occur under the following conditions.
When there is an obstacle, such as a part of the body, metal, or a wall, between the antenna of the headset and the playback device. In this case, moving the playback device closer to the antenna of the headset may improve the Bluetooth communications. The antenna of each left or right headset unit is built into the part shown in the dotted line below
If you experience crackling, buzzing, popping, or vibration noises on your Bluetooth® headphones, follow these troubleshooting steps and check if it resolves the issue.
Reset the headphones.
Initialize the headphones.
Pair the headphones with your device.
We also recommend updating the firmware to latest version which is Version 3.3.1. Please launch the Connect app to check and verify the firmware.

Sound quality, top notch

And i understand they improve them making them lighter, more compact, etc but, they still fall off just by my ears being moved or something moving it, not stable. Another thing is the inserts why not silicone. A cushion like is very uncomfortable when you sweat, gets wet or gets dirty. It always reminds me i have to clean my ears. Thats not nice. I pay for an experience not a reminder.

Ok not great

They do have good sound but not great. I took these back and got Bose quiet comfort and the low sounds are even clearer but these do sound good. Also the case and ear buds are very small, much better than Bose. HOwever the noise cancelling is so bad I couldn't use them. If noise cancelling isn't big for you they will probably work but the Bose are cheaper and just as good.

Great sound and noise cancelation

The fit and finish is spot on the money. Its everything i expected, but sadly I lost it somewhere and i miss it. So i went and got this set of earbuds.

Overhyped, buyer beware!

Only get decent ANC with larger tips, but those are extremely uncomfortable after 15 min. Poor voice quality on phone calls unless you are in a quiet environment. Software/firmware is terrible. Earbuds tend to connect to phone while still in case, which make answering calls frustrating because you have to manually switch to headset when answering calls same goes for watching media..
