Was very dissapointed by the noise cancelling aspect of these ear buds. On the app, when you toggle the noise canceling mode on or off, it hardly makes a difference. I then played a you tube video of airplane noise and tried the ear buds, I could still hear the noise come through. I then switched to my samsung buds pro 2 and was shocked at the difference. Almost night and day. This is even after I updated to the latest firmware on the Sony buds. Very dissapointed. And I saw several youtube reviews saying this is the best in class. Will be returning mine back to best buy

Besides the bulky size, the noise cancelling did not meet the hype. Bose QC 2 is much better and, to a lesser degree the newly released Jabra Elite 8. If you simply want Sony buds, just get the Linkbuds S - they fit better, have comparable noise cancelling and are cheaper.

If the size of the earbud tips does not match the size of your ear canals or the headset is not worn properly in your ears, tap operations or Speak-to-Chat speech detection may not work correctly, or you may not obtain the correct sound qualities, noise canceling effects, or call performance. If any of this is the case, try the following.
-Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears. When changing the earbud tips, try the earbud tip sizes in order from the larger ones to the smaller ones. The most suitable size of the earbud tips for left and right ears may be different.
-The “Sony | Headphones Connect” app will help you to determine which earbud tips suit you best to achieve the optimal noise canceling effect, sound quality, etc.

Sound leaves allot to be desired

They feel and look really cheaply made. There’s a background noise when theres not supposed to be any. Plus they try to get you to purchase some extra software for them. I ended returning them for iPods pro 2 which are much better

Good sound once you adjust it
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned previous iterations of Sony's true wireless earbuds, and these are a definite improvement. Just aesthetically, they're better looking: smaller, and they don't protrude as much from your ear. Plus the case is smaller and now charges wirelessly. They use the same app to manage and control their performance. These are now touch sensitive, so no buttons to push. The touch controls can be annoying when you inadvertently turn the noise cancelling off when trying to adjust the fit, but that's an issue with nearly all touch-sensitive earbuds. I was initially disappointed with the sound. The highs and midrange were great - crisp and clear - but the low end performance was weak. I expect less from earbuds than over-the-ear headphones, but these were still a letdown. None of the preset equalizer settings in the app did enough to boost the bass, but I was able to get good performance when I created my own settings with the low end turned way up and the "clear bass" maxed out. The noise cancelling performance is excellent. And as noted previously, it's easy to turn on and off with a tap of the left earbud. These fit me great out of the box, but there are three sets of tips to adjust the fit to your ear precisely. There are also some new updates to the app, including the ability to sense your location and automatically adjust settings depending on where you are, for example, turning off noise cancelling at work. However, you need to be signed into your Sony account to use that feature, and the app was very buggy about letting me sign in. Another thing the app can do is "find" your preferred equalizer settings by running through a series of choices where you pick what sounds better to you. Overall though, the app adds a lot to the performance of the buds, and once you get them tuned just right, the sound is really, really good.

For calls, they're absolutely awful - to the point that if there is even a small amount of background noise, folks on the other end can't hear you. Something is fundamentally broken in how the mics try to mute background noise. Mine are getting returned. If you need to do calls, look elsewhere.

For fit concern, the WF-1000XM5 features an improved glossy texture and a more luxurious feel, these earbuds fit comfortably in your ears while keeping out external sounds. Our WF-1000XM5 earbuds feature a shape that perfectly matches the human ear with an ergonomic design for a more stable fit.
To ensure optimal performance, as well as to obtain the best fit and prevent the headset from falling out, change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears. If you feel earbud tips are difficult to put into your ears, change the size of earbud tips or squeeze earbud tips lightly before wearing the headset. When wearing them, gently pull up on the top of your ears, put the earbud tips in your ear canal, and then twist the earbuds into place. This makes sure the earbuds are firmly in the ear canal.

Of all my different brands of earbuds, I’ve always reached for Sony when I want to escape into my music and the WF-1000XM5’s are their best yet when it comes to sound quality & noise cancelling. For starters, right out of the box, they paired quickly & fit securely. I tried them in different environments over the last week & I’m amazed by the high level of noise cancelling. Sony’s processors combined with 6 microphones really shut down the outside world. I already had the Sony Headphones App & highly recommend it for max enjoyment. It has so many features, but I primarily use the equalizer, adaptive sound control & it to set my general preferences. Although these buds are great for everyday use (phone calls, podcasts, and they’re even water/sweat resistant for workouts) I enjoy them the most when I want full immersion into my music. Sony’s driver unit (Dynamic Driver X) puts out crisp clear sound & vocals with low distortion. I like heavy bass, and Sony buds have always been the finest. These buds are no exception. The equalizer in the App has a max bass boost setting or you can adjust to fit your taste. The tap controls on the outside of the buds are very sensitive. I barely have to touch them to switch between noise cancelling & ambient sound, or play/pause/forward, etc.. Battery life is excellent. With the case Sony lists 24 hours of battery life. I’ve used them an entire week without having to recharge them. Overall, these are 5 star high quality buds that truly shine. Sony should be proud.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This is my review for the Sony - WF1000XM5 True Wireless Noise Cancelling Earbuds - in the color black I’m obsessed with the black sleek look and a touch of gold, these two colors together on this product is a 10/10! Design is very good, they are on the smaller end and are compact-design seems very durable - and I like the fact that these earbuds don’t stick out of my ear like other name brand earbuds They are also comfortable to the ear and are not heavy for me- they are very lightweight. Setup on the earbuds was fairly easy-and these earbuds connected easily to Bluetooth and paired well with my iPhone . No issues or complaints with that. Sound quality is very clear -noise canceling works well. And battery life is pretty long too, I was impressed with this- and the charging case. there is nothing worse than having to recharge your EarPods every night because they run low on battery. Bluetooth range is very good. I do think that the price point in these earbuds is wayyyy to high, but they do work up to the price tag because they are wonderful!
