    The sound quality and ANC are really good, but the sensors malfunction so much. The touch sensors (which this has instead of buttons) have a really annoying delay which makes it hard to tell if my press registered, so I try pressing again and it turns out both registered so now I paused then unpaused my song and I sit there looking like an idiot for 30 seconds while someone is trying to talk to me, but I can't take the ear buds out because the wear detectors will detect my fingers so my music will play and pause repeatedly in my other ear. Also if I'm working out and my hair gets sweaty and touches the buds, they think I pressed them so it starts pausing or skipping my song every 10 seconds, and wiping them off doesn't fix it so I just need to end my workout early. And sometimes (maybe sweat got in the microphone?) the ANC in one bud will break and make a constant buzzing sound for a day or two before it goes back to normal. First impressions were really good, but the little annoyances and design flaws are a death by a thousand paper cuts. They're decent for sitting still at a desk, but incredibly annoying at the gym.

Your feedback about the touch sensor is greatly appreciated. For optimum performance, make sure that the software version of the headphones is up-to-date (via the Sony Sound Connect app).

      When tapping the touch sensor multiple times, tap it quickly with an interval of about 0.3 seconds between taps. Tap the center of the touch sensor with the pad of your index finger. If the surface of your index finger is wet, greasy, dirty, too dry, etc., the headset may not respond well to tapping. If the touch sensor is in the following states, it may not work or may react incorrectly:

      -It is wet with water, sweat, etc.
      -It is touched by hair, wet towels, etc.

  • Great earbuds but very poor ear-tips

    Those earbuds are great and provide good ANC. The app is great and has lots of great features. The only issue I find with those earbuds are the ear tips. The air foam ear tips do not stay in their position within the ear canal. After trying all the fitting sizes, none of them seem to provide enough comfort and keep moving out of place. It is disappointing for pricey earbuds like those to have cheap and uncomfortable ear tips. I believe Sony can improve the ear tips in the future and improve the design and comfort level of those buds. One improvement that could be considered for the future is including ear wings to stabilize the ear tips in the ear canal.

    Love them!!!! Returned the Bose and tried these... Wow what an improvement. Yes, the app setup requires patience. But, during regular use the only setting I adjust is noise cancelling vs. some ambient sound. I use none of the fancy spatial settings because they are just weird. I don't want to move my head and have the sound move. Who likes this? I simply do not agree with online reviewers that say advanced sound codecs don't make a noticeable difference. I've got serious noise damage and switching on the LDAC makes a monster positive difference on my android (sorry iphone people). The sound is rich and full for two really tiny buds. My first set of buds with no ear clip and these are very secure. Call quality great! So rare today.

    An improvement from the previous version. Buds are aliitle smaller and lighter and the case is definitely smaller. The sound is about the same as the older version but the noise canceling seems better. Worth the money in my opinion.

    These are the best noise-canceling earbuds I've used to date. I used the previous generation for over 3 years, and the sound quality of this new version is a noticeable upgrade.     I purchased these expecting them to outperform my Galaxy Buds Pro 3, but I was disappointed. I spent the first few hours comparing both, and the Galaxy Buds Pro 3 delivered a more dynamic sound with richer bass that the XM5s just couldn’t match. The Galaxy Buds were also noticeably louder. On the positive side, the XM5s fit more comfortably than the Buds Pro 3. However, I found myself constantly readjusting them whenever I smiled or engaged in any activity, which became frustrating. Even after switching to the larger ear tips, the fit didn’t improve significantly. Overall, while the comfort was better, the sound quality and stability fell short of my expectations. I’ll be returning these.

    These sound amazing. They are pretty comfortable. I feel like I'm sort of in-between sizes on the ear tips, but the app helps you choose the appropriate size and lets you know if they are in air-tight. Connection is easy and stable and the different noice cancellation features are nice. They are worth the money.

    These are great even though the bass was better on the previous model. The noise cancelling is great. The app is simple to use and there are plenty of YouTubers who have published EQ’s and info to get the best bang for your buck. Sony continues to put out firmware updates to improve the connectivity and sound but I wish they would have given these more effort. All in all I would give these a 7.5 out of 10. I’m happy with them but the difference between these and the previous model is minimal.

    I had purchased the Sony WF-1000XM5 to replace my WF-1000XM4 because they just couldn't hold a charge and one of the earbuds would drop connection at random. Overall, I really like the XM5 earbuds but my biggest gripe is that they're glossy so sometimes they fall out of my hands when handling them. These earbuds are really good and I recommend it!
