The sound was good, but as I expected, the ANC was not great compared to the Sony WH1000XM4 (Over the Ear) headphones that I have. Finally, I returned these because I could just not get a great fit with any of the provided earbuds. Over time, they seemed to slip out of my ear canals. The earbuds never fell off, but the seal was not consistent. I much prefer the fit of my much cheaper PowerBeats Pro that hook over my ears. The Beats do not have ANC, but maybe I don't need that in my earbuds.

RANDOM CONNECTION

I got these because I loved the noise canceling on the 4’s and was looking forward to the upgrades and smaller design. These headphones sound great but I give 2 stars because they won’t stop connecting to my phone when I’m not using them. They’re in my backpack in another room and they connect to my phone. They’ll be in my pocket (in the case of course) and they’ll connect to my phone. It is so annoying that I really just want to get a different pair of headphones. I’m at the point where I don’t care how good they are, they won’t stop pairing when they’re in the case. The XM4’s have done it a handful of times but these. ALL THE TIME!!!! I am so frustrated with these.

We're glad that you like the sound quality of the headphones. It's unfortunate that you are having connectivity issues. For optimum performance, make sure that the software version of the headphones is up-to-date (via the Sony Headphones Connect app). Check that both earbuds are placed correctly on the charging case. Each headset unit will be set to the correct position in the charging case by the built-in magnet. Resetting and initializing the headset may also help resolve those issues. Buds battery uneven

But just like the 4th gen I fear, one of the buds is already not aligning on battery life (10% difference) and likely going to go out rather soon. For the price, I want it to last at least 2 years....

I wasn't sure how they could be better, but the XM5 earbuds are vastly impoved for sound, call clarity and noise cancelling. I used these on a work call in my running diesel and another at a McDonald's with talking and loud music in the background and none of the noise was noticable by others on the calls.
