The sound quality is amazing. I do not want to take them off...lol. Also, I have had three phone conversations, and all three people stated that I sounded loud and clear...way better than before. Worth it!

I’ve made the upgrade so the xm5’s after Sony royally messed up on the xm4 firmware. Sound quality is the same as xm4. I like that they are now smaller and that’s about as good as it gets. Sometimes I experience the sound cutting in and out at the gym. Currently too afraid to upgrade the firmware.

However I could not get a good fit with the provided ear tips, and also tried several after market ear tips as well. Lacking a good seal in the ears, the audio quality and noise cancelling functions did not perform well at all. After three days of trying various ear tips I gave up and returned the earbuds.

Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro's sound MUCH better.

Im shocked by how bad the Sonys sound in comparison. They sound very hollow and the treble is extreme. The bass is decent, its there, fast and has ok punch. The Soundcores have a much more full, warm, and exciting sound. The Sonys dont sound that much better than my S23 Ultra's speakers. The app looks very dated, not that easy to navigate. It feels like it was made in the Android 7 days. I'm actually pretty upset that these $300 earbuds get demolished by $150 earbuds that came out a while ago, making my purchase feel like a very stupid and wasteful one. Will be returning them asap. One last final gripe, the smooth plastic finish on the ear buds makes them really hard to grip and get out of the case and feels very cheap.

If the size of the earbud tips does not match the size of your ear canals or the headset is not worn properly in your ears, tap operations or Speak-to-Chat speech detection may not work correctly, or you may not obtain the correct sound qualities, noise canceling effects, or call performance. If any of this is the case, try the following.
-Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears. When changing the earbud tips, try the earbud tip sizes in order from the larger ones to the smaller ones. The most suitable size of the earbud tips for left and right ears may be different.
-The “Sony | Headphones Connect” app will help you to determine which earbud tips suit you best to achieve the optimal noise canceling effect, sound quality, etc.
-Check that you are wearing the headset properly in your ears. Wear the headset so that the earbud tip is comfortably situated as deep in the ear canal as possible. You may also find this link helpful:

I have to shout to get a muddled response out on phone calls. The ANC is amazing but it demolishes battery life. The microphone is a step back from the xm-4's.

Disappointed.

The XM4s were some of the best earbuds I've ever had, but these are a bit of a letdown. The main fault was the connectivity. While at the gym I keep my phone in my pocket and the earbud on the opposite side of me will cut out momentarily while moving around. I tried updating the buds, resetting them, and then replacing them. Unfortunately, the second one had the same problems(I even changed phones). P.S. The sound canceling is not as good as the XM4 either.

Expensive but possibly justified
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.So I'm in the Apple ecosystem and, thus, it's obvious what headphones these would be compared to. And, considering that those unnamed headphones are only 2/3 the cost of the Sony, Sony's pricing should be justified, especially if one is in the Apple ecosystem. For the most part, I think the price is justified, though with some caveats. For example, spatial audio including following the movement of your head seems to only be available for Android users. Not sure if this will eventually come to iPhone users or not. One cool feature that these Sonys have is the speak to chat functionality - once you start talking, the music pauses and ambient mode turns on so you can carry on a conversation. Once you stop speaking, the music (or whatever you're playing) will resume. That is really neat. Another is the dedicated app - you can tweak so many features of the headphones that it may actually be a bit disconcerting to the novice, non-audiophile consumer. But, at least the options (literally) are there if you're a tinkerer.
